Your reference to "Sir Van" caused me to Google him because I was not aware he'd been knighted. I saw that he had been, but only this year--a recognition far too long in coming. I swear that if he ever performs anywhere near where I live, I'll rob a bank to get the money for a ticket if I have to and will turn myself in afterwards and spend my sentence behind bars with some great memories.

I love this song It reminds me of my childhood friend Tony. I grow up with him, he was my best mate. We swam rivers, climbed tress, built snowmen, chapped doors and ran away etc, I am a grandmother now but will always carry a torch for him in my heart. He died when he was eighteen and I still miss him.

Completely I share your thoughts about the music of Van Morrison

This guys great creative music exceeds Beethoven and Mozart. He keeps churning them out seemingly effortlessly. The sad part is before you know how great Van Morison is  you have to BUY his albums otherwise you remain ignorant to his great music. Because his great songs are not played very much on popular radio. Yet he doesn't conform so that they will be like so many other musicians of his time did once he exceeded age 40, he creates and sings what turns him on regardless of whether anyone else will like them or not.

+alan murr The days of this kind of music on mainstream radio stations is over, I'm afraid.  It doesn't pay the bills so to speak.  A damn shame I say.  I'm a volunteer radio announcer and it's one of my responsibilities to see that this kind of music gets out there.  There's an audience out there waiting and hoping beautiful music will come their way and only through community radio will that ever happen anymore.  So search out those non-profit radio stations in your area and call them with your requests.  Many volunteers, like myself, play their own music collections on-air.  Hope this helps.

I don't really know another artist I'd use the word "genius" for, for me it means more than talented, its taking what already exists and creating something new, unique that leaves others wondering "how does he do that?!" Morrison is a musical genius pure and simple, he doesn't have to smile, do interviews or explain his songs, he just has to keep making this kind of music.
