Van Halen - Man On A Mission Lyrics

I got a one track mind, my blinders up
Now all I gotta do is get up, go out an' get her
Got the first step down, I know what I want
All seven senses tryin' to deliver
My baby, let me fill you up inside (up inside)
Spread your wings an' open wide (open wide)
So hot, so hot, so hot
I'm a man on a mission, straight ahead
Let's talk, more action, with no distractions
I'm all conditioned, is it alright
Go for the action, with no distractions
You get every inch, play splat an' bone
And it's all wrapped up in a tight little bundle
I got an open mind, do anything
I am aware the ball might roll or tumble
So right down to the bottom of the top (ooh ooh)
I'm gonna get it all in one big pot (one big pot)
Yeah, she got, she got me hot
Uh, I'm a man on a mission, straight ahead
Let's talk, more action, with no distractions
I'm all conditioned, I'm far off red
Let's talk, more action, with no distractions
Oh yeah, uh, I got no expections, so get on in the way
Only thing that's on my mind - ah, she's forgotten my attention
What you take's the real kind - aw!

[Solo]

Uh! Ah! Come on, she got, she got, ah!
Man on a mission, straight ahead
No talk, more action, I got no distractions
I'm all conditioned, what I say
A man on a mission, up ahead
Ah yeah, whew, my kinda action, aw, uh
No distractions, I got no distractions
No distractions, ah, no distractions, I'm on a mission, whew, aw

  9. M.... F....

I agree that Hagar does not get enough credit. Sad but true

    M.... F....

i think he is better than david lee roth, nothing against david, but.......

    M.... F....

Staying true to who he is was more important to him, his music and integrity than selling out and doing stuff just for the money! And look at him now, still in demand and doing what he loves for his fans. Where are the rest of them?

  10. M.... F....

Michael Anthony does great tenor on this tune.

  11. R.... P....

I can relate! Relative to pulling yourself up, "metaphorically speaking" out of the trenches! with a little help from above! When Hagar joined em' I think they were seeing things in a different light!

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jester

    Jesters are pretty cool...

My favorite part is how sometimes they would just stick weaker members of society like handicap, or crazy people then get put in the jesters clothes then let to run around the manor getting laughed at.

Mid evil society was quite crude and cruel frequently retarded or crippled people would die off.

The humor was very crude and subjective such as practical jokes or mocking.

Thus some of these people found a niche entertaining nobility as fools ,handicap, or crazy people to be laughed at.

On the exact opposite side of the spectrum sometimes jesters would serve as members of a kitchen cabinet to the leadership.

Allowing them to have important adviser roles.

Its one of my favorite examples of anthropology and tribalism.

You have an important person and ruler who has decided to appoint a peasant or commoner or unskilled person to be around them in a personal and intimate way.

Either the jester continues to act as their jester

playing the fool and entertaining them

    or

Continues to serve as their adviser or confident

    or

Moves into another role like military adviser or political or military figure or lover

  17. D.... B....

That intro is so embarrassing. The rest is awesome, though.

  18. J.... K....

    Billy St. James

  20. T.... ....

Sammy`s voice is so damn great!

  21. B.... D....

This is a great song !

    B.... D....

    Ben Dover u7

  22. J.... K....

This reminds me of Joe Satriani's Satch Boogie!

  23. G.... ....

    Walking into the club like

  24. u.... m....

The main riff of this song blatantly rips off the fadeout riff for Bad English's Rockin' Horse.

    u.... m....

    no it doesn't

    u.... m....

    I'm afraid it does.

    u.... m....

if it does then ok but alot of songs sound the same tone loc ripped off Jamie's crying

    u.... m....

That's one of the things you CAN knock this song for. It's following a formula that's been heard before in terms of the basic riff. I haven't even heard Bad English Rockin' Horse before, but I've heard this musical riff in other places.

However, I still have to agree with Kyle Roberts that it's not uncommon for good music to sound similar in those ways. Ever heard blues music? So much of it follows the exact same pattern. Start at one note for two measures, jump up four whole steps for one measure, then back to the original note for one measure, then jump up five whole steps for half a measure, then down a whole step for another half measure, then back to the original note again. Listen to a lot of ZZ Top's music if you don't believe me. LOL

    u.... m....

This doesn't sound like that at all, check your ears dude :>

  25. D.... L....

I love how the producer mixed Alex in hard on this album.

    D.... L....

+Dark Lord Cthulhu As a long time Alex fan, I think the drumming on this album, is every thing that's so great about him: groove & chops FOR DAYS! His best drumming on ANY VH album!

    D.... L....

@Thomas Wiilde Though the intro to Hot for Teacher has to be up there, right?

    D.... L....

+Dark Lord Cthulhu That kinda goes without sayin'! But, as far as the WHOLE package, THIS album does it for me. Right behind this album, is "Fair Warning", for my tastes. Even though as a WHOLE (I'm talking about vocals, lyrically, guitar,  bass, etc..), "Fair Warning" is my absolute favorite, then "Women & Children First".

    D.... L....

+Dark Lord Cthulhu Being that you now have me in a FULL "Alex Van Halen Drum Nerd" mode, the intro and post-solo parts to "Finish What Ya Started", and  pretty much all of "Amsterdam" (especially the intro) are other AVH highlights for me! Though those don't have "virtuoso" playing, he does AMAZING stuff, with so little. When I 1st heard those, I was like, "WTF is he doing?! HOW did he come up with this?!" haha!

    D.... L....

RIP Andy Johns was so awesome. Listen to that drum tone. He could get Alex to sound like John Bonham

  26. B.... L....

LOLLOLLOL FORTUNE COOKIE...my best advice for men.

  27. B.... L....

You got talk shit with Expression and Authority...

  28. F.... B....

    this one is really Swingin'

  29. c.... ....

These fruits ripped off Steel Panther.

    c.... ....

+cokesucks dullards cant play music can they?

    c.... ....

    +Cambell F
    Or read sarcasm.

    c.... ....

+cokesucks dude that didnt read like sarcasm

    c.... ....

+cokesucks I've never understood why people talk shit on youtube, maybe it makes them feel special...

    c.... ....

Sounds kinda like aerosmith to me not that that's a bad thing

  30. T.... ....

    This song is underrated!

  31. N.... ....

    17 girls in a row

    N.... ....

@Cambell F Well then you have a terrible music ear. They sound similar, however it's not note by note similar and they just have different rythm, yet it's similar in it's own way. Satchel is a big VH fan and gets a lot of "inspiration" from their songs. A lot of their songs are mashups of riffs and different songs. For example, Party All Day is inspired from Bon Jovi's Livin' on a Prayer, Contagious by Y&T, and some other shit.

    N.... ....

Acid my thought exactly , thank you sir

    N.... ....

+Acid my music ear's better than yours

    N.... ....

    kane henaulto

    N.... ....

Yep...!!!! This is the father of that riff...!!!!!!!!!!!!

  32. C.... B....

Sammy Hagar doesn't get enough credit at all.

    C.... B....

    Corey Burns exactly

    C.... B....

    But I️ liked them both

    C.... B....

van Hagar took it too a hell of a new level .

    C.... B....

I agree. I like Dave as long as I don't have to see him or hear him talking. haha! Sammy Hagar kills it during his tenure!

    C.... B....

    Give me back my bullet

  33. h.... ....

this woulda sounded so cool w/ dave puttin vocals to it

  34. m.... ....

    is a great riff..

  35. m.... ....

    great album!

  36. J.... B....

    groovy tune
