Eddie VanHalen’s guitar tone is transcendental brilliance as far as 80’s rock/metal guitar is concerned. George Lynch, Vito Bratta, David Gilmour, Mark Knopfler, etc., etc. lots of great guitarists from the 80’s to choose but damn it’s hard not to be seduced by Eddie’s dirty, raunchy sounding guitar tone.

This record is the most prime of prime VH to me. They could have written 10 records from from this period and it wouldn't be enough. Classic rock radio, this is some of the best of the best. '77-84' the the best music ever made. VH rules!

Even with this pop tune, EVH is untouchable, writer, rythm, leads, back up harmonies. No one comes close.

They blew the roof off that old BG!! I think the Celtics and the Bruins could still hear diamond Dave resonating from the walls.!!! VH was definitely not a hair band. But this song and several others on this album definitely brought them close. Call it an unfortunate precursor. They got back to rocking on 1984.

This is proof of what a great band Van Halen is.This shows they're a grunge band.Look at any guitar mag that has guitar polls of major grunge bands and this album is in the top5 and usually the number 1.This is also proof to critics that they're not a cover band.Better than anything with Sammy.This is as close to a solo album that Eddie ever made.Its all his compositions.

Don't know if it's true but I've read this was very much Eddie's album. Diver Down was Dave's. I can see how that might be true. They're pretty different (though released in succession). Personally, I prefer Fair Warning - and it's not particularly close.

Van Halen was pretty good when they began. The first album was best. But VH are not the greatest as some type. The top drawer of rock n roll was Beatles, Stones, Led Zep , these groups were in a class of their own.
