Van Halen - 5150 Lyrics

The love line is never straight and narrow
Unless your love is tried and true
We take our chance with new beginnings

Still we try, win or lose
Take the highs with the blues

Always one more, you're never satisfied
Instead of 'one for all' with you, it's only 'one for me'
Oh, when I draw the line and meet you half the way
And you don't know what that means

I feel like a running politician
Just trying to please you all the time
I'm giving you my share with no condition

Going wide, running long
Feeling lost but not for long

Always one more, you're never satisfied
Instead of 'one for all' with you, it's only 'one for me'
So I draw the line and meet you half the way
When you don't know what that means

Always one more, you're never satisfied
Instead of 'one for all' with you, it's only 'one for me'
So I draw the line and meet you half the way
When you don't know what that means

I'll meet you half the way!
I'll meet you half the way

Sammy's only true rock song with halen.

  2. K.... S....

I'm not too sure if Eddie kept this from David Lee or just got lost in the shuffle but it's ridiculous. If you look at 1984 they had a couple of old songs on there that they redid. I cannot imagine David Lee would have stayed with the band what kind of Racket they was made in 1986. Just wasn't meant to be.

  3. L.... t....

    best album for sex :)

  4. J.... G....

His name was Kevin, he was finger tapping, van Halen, 1988, I was finger tapping, Jon Lord, our HIT SONG, TOP GUN ANTHEM, WE made No recordings but we sold, one million copies, in a PARALLEL UNIVERSE, ? KARACHI PAKISTAN, 1989

  5. U.... D....

I remember I went on a 1 week vacation in Honolulu when I was 22....I had just got this tape in the summer of 86 before I left.....I listened to this every day while driving around Oahu.....I remember like it was yesterday listening to this tune driving down Kamehameha Hwy through the sugar cane fields towards the blue ocean of the North Shore.....Wow!!!!!!

  6. J.... F....

This song kicks fucking teeth in son! Dont give a fuck what you say..... Make better if you can

  7. T.... M....

    Thrash metal or speed metal?

  8. U.... ....

the tempo and playing is alot like old VH....but Hagar's screeching and terrible lyrics/boxing theme and cliches are just absurd and ruin it.

  9. T.... M....

    My favorite Van Hagar song...

  10. M.... N....

¿Por qué escriben en inglés si es you tube latino américa?

  11. E.... V....

It would REALLY suck to be the child of a famous rock drummer.....I mean, if they can hit that fast with drumsticks, you already know that paddle is gonna sting like a mofo.

  12. B.... V....

    Double bass
    Amazing snare sound
    Killer rotombs
    Alex on fire right here!!!!

    B.... V....

Alex's drumming is killer on this record but they are not roto Tom's on this record... alex used Simmons electronic drum pads for the toms and Simmons drum triggers for the kick drums... snare was a tama rosewood snare

  13. C.... S....

51this year have CD found in a second hand music store . Rock on van halen

  14. B.... G....

    I was 16 driven a 1979 Z28 and I was loven life

    Go man gooooooooooo!

  19. S.... A....

People often say 5150 was a pop sellout, I really don't see it, this song is AWESOME. Yes: Why Can't This Be Love, Dreams and Love Walks In had far more prominent keyboards than previous Van Halen songs but it's just those 3 songs, the rest of the album (the other 6 songs) is pretty much the same style as the Roth Era. The Hagar Era of Van Halen is certainly better than the Post-Pyromania Era of Def Leppard.

  20. R.... T....

  21. d.... p....

    Good song

    d.... p....

  22. V.... R....

    Killer Sammy Hagar

  23. M.... G....

Sounds alot like ," Loss of Control", from Van Halen's, Women and Children album. But, Loss of Control is far better.

    M.... G....

Um, it's called Loss of Control and it's from Women & Children First...not their first album!!

    M.... G....

    @The Music City Martian!

  30. F.... V....

I'm getting a car starting up vibe off the intro.

  31. N.... F....

Alex Van Halens best performance on record imo...

    N.... F....

    Nigel Fortune that intro !

  32. F.... V....

Honestly, one of my favorite intros behind Mean Street, 5150, Ain't talking bout love.

  33. D.... R....

I had this on cassette, fucking batteries always run out mowing the lawn.

  34. D.... ....

    Mr pogo!

  35. T.... ....

HOLY SHIT ALEX IS JUST KILLING THE FUCK OUTA THEM DRUMS !!!

  36. M.... I....

I think Alex Van Halen is the best drummer of old the fucking world , but i im doubt with Tommy Aldridge , because hes got good solos

  37. J.... 1....

No wonder I can't find a real drum cover for this song

  38. w.... l....

  48. J.... M....

    love it keep it up

  49. C.... S....

    lucky u I can't find it

  50. C.... S....

where the fuck can I find this? had it on tape yrs ago

    C.... S....

Colette Sadeghi I've got it on cd. This was this first tune I learned with a whammy bar.

  51. T.... C....

They should remaster this disc because it sounds flat when you play it against the new VH remasters. There's some good tunes on here.... and this is one of them.

  52. M.... H....

that trem use reminds me of a slide. sounds killer. just learned he used a steinberger for this, and is the only way to get a whammy bar to play like that

  53. P.... G....

that moment in the solo when they go half a step down blows my mind every time...

    P.... G....

+Patrick Grant Thank the Steinberger Trans Trem for that.

    P.... G....

    +einarabelc5 hell yeah

    P.... G....

The final bit of this song really does it for me! Fake or not, the vocal screaming from Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony are really mind-blowing!

  54. O.... ....

Black Sabbath had actually recorded a piece called "E5150" (about the California Penal Code for drunk driving) a few years before this album.

    O.... ....

Cheers dude, always nice to learn...E5150...And War Pigs is becoming more evident. Shame, but lots of Sabbath songs tell us tae fight back against the mad yet powerful.

    O.... ....

My understanding is that this song is named after Eddie's studio. His studio is named after Section 5150(mentally disturbed person) of the California Welfare and Institutions Code. Sabbath's E5150 was coined by taking the letter E and combining it with the decimal conversion of the Roman numerals V, I , and L V=5, I=1, L=50. Cheers.

    O.... ....

@musicalvisions Wow good one I wonder how many folks new that.

    O.... ....

    Mob rules album

  55. K.... R....

1986 = No Cell Phones, No Internet, No ipads, No Terrorism Paranoia, No Wiggers, No Email, No Mandatory Cable, No Pussy Overpaid Crybaby Athletes, No Hot Cheetos.
Ok, the cheetos are cool! Lol

    K.... R....

they had the 'communism terror' in full swing...didn't need a 'boogeyman' at that time.

    K.... R....

murder was at an all time high tho... lol also AIDS.... and the drug pandemic... times sure do change.

    K.... R....

No spinless pussies whining about the need for Safe Spaces and Trigger Warnings........no equally whiny "Nice Guys" sulking like little bitches that Women "Friend Zone em"

    K.... R....

no fidget Spinners no hoverboards no bibies Beauty Palace haha

    K.... R....

I agree Knight Rider....Well, there WERE pussy, overpaid, crybaby athletes...but in '86 it was the COLLEGE athletes that were overpaid. Thanks for the post!

  56. T.... ....

    Metal up your ass!!!

  57. h.... ....

Ha you Dave posers tell me the Sammy years were shit after cranking this up (and others) stfu

    h.... ....

+hitman dejesus I liked Dave, But Sammy vocals were just so much better

    h.... ....

+Daniel Smith It is not just about the vocals, I think Dave's lyrics were better! Go back and listen to the first 6 Van Halen records.

  58. M.... ....

Listening to this is like sonically getting your ass kicked

    M.... ....

I think Alex is playing a machine gun.

    M.... ....

    It's like kicking ass

  59. E.... D....

Best Van Hagar song of all time! Fucking A!

  60. Z.... ....

This song sounds like Hot For Teacher

    Z.... ....

But way harder ,like to see any drummer keep up with this and play it lol

    Z.... ....

    No, please

  61. j.... b....

I THOUGHT 5150 WAS A GREAT FTRST RECORD FOR VAN-HAGGAR!

  62. C.... D....

    Killer drumming!

    C.... D....

    Dead drummer*

    C.... D....

    What do you mean?

    C.... D....

Hes so good playing drum :v

    C.... D....

    Beast mode on the drums

    C.... D....

    @Manolito Invader GET UPPPP!!!

  63. T.... R....

    PHENOMENAL!!!

  64. C.... ....

As a big fan of VH from the beginning, I was pleased that they decided to move forward with Sammy when Dave took off/was fired/whatever.

As the release of 5150 approached, the first single, "Why Can't This Be Love", was finally played on the radio after days of hype. And after hearing it, I was SO DISAPPOINTED!!!! What in the hell happened to the great Van Halen? VOMIT!!!

Then I heard, "GET UP!" and all was right in my Van Halen world again.

    C.... ....

    @Bubba Co AMEN

    C.... ....

I personally love why cant this be love but whatever

  65. K.... V....

Not Sammy's best lyrical work, but I love the music and his primal scream at the beginning.

    K.... V....

Some times the lyrics don’t have to be complex. If you have a killer fist pumper of a song all you need is a hook to get people going

  66. f.... ....

This is ass-kicking music, for helping you to power through a workout at the gym!

    f.... ....

I can see that.I like listening to similar music during workouts at the gym ie. painkiller by Judas Priest

    f.... ....

    No Pantera does that.

  67. K.... K....

I'll bet there isn't one VH video on YT that doesn't have a Dave vs Sam comment. Jeez.

    K.... K....

+Keith Kessinger Gary Cherone also didn't suck

    K.... K....

    seriously.

    K.... K....

+Keith Kessinger Well I didn't see one until yours! Geez!

  68. a.... ....

listen to the power in this and good enough . and the good time feel of summer nights , with a couple more hard edge tunes this could have been the beast rock album of all time.

    a.... ....

Yeah all the upbeats are fantastic, the way rock should be anyway

  69. C.... B....

Fucking guy on the DRUMS is KILLIN IT! GREAT TIMING...GREAT!!!

    C.... B....

@douglas70940 Thx Doug..I use to (so called) "Play Drums" a while back..I could NEVER MASTER the technique of making a "Recovery" from an "Out of Time" part of music..if u know what im trying to say..Call it an intentional 'out of time" segment..(The Drummer Playing Catch up". I could Always appreciate the drummers that could do that..The guy from Van Halen, and Carl Palmer, from ELP were notorious for an "Off Time Recovery" something that I could NEVER do,which is why I could NEVER be in their class..(which is also why I NEVER made it as a 'REAL" drummer
    Thx,Doug
    Chloe Bear

    C.... B....

@Chloe Bear Hummm.. call it "Being out of time,at the same time that U R in time"..It takes GREAT mind conrol,to do that.. My mind, and hand control were NEVER "IN PHASE" to pull that off...NEVER..I ALWAYS admired the FEW drummers that could do that.. This guy from VF is a MASTER at it.. Thats why he was in VF..obviously...XXXCELLENT WORK!

    C.... B....

"The Guy" drumming is the amazing Alex Van Halen. I personally rank him up there with other greats such as Neil Peart of RUSH and John Bonham of Led Zeppelin, just as a matter of opinion. Of course, many may disagree and that's cool. Music is very subjective...

    C.... B....

@Don Henderson Thx 4 giving the name of the Van Halen Drummer,Mr.D!
I used to be a "So-called" drummer..I was NOT that good.. When I use 2 try 2 do half of the things that Alex does,my head would start SPINNING,and my nerves world need time to REFRESH. Thats the difference between a "Want 2 B drummer, and a real drummer..(CONTROL) btw,BONHAM was one of my "Favs". I also that that Jimi Hendrix's drummer was Great,If I tried to keep up with Hendrix's drummer,my head would EXPLODE! OUCH! Thanx,Mr"D"!

    C.... B....

    +Chloe Bear the Reverend Al!

  70. E.... G....

I'm with Christian Lee STOP ! with all the nasty stuff just enjoy love me some Sammy ! YES

  71. t.... ....

    Below the belt!

  72. d.... ....

    Yep, one of my faves.

  73. d.... ....

The first ever song played on my sony walkman, still sounds great!!

  74. L.... N....

Some great songs from vh1 but the whole assless chaps thing just cant rock this hard

  75. R.... D....

    Oh - sorry. . . didn't know I was supposed to "argue" with a brainless Funyun. . .

*now, let's see - try to imagine that your IQ is 80 points lower than it really is. . .*

Crap - can't do it - sorry, Sparkles. . . you're gonna have to look elsewhere for your gay fix.

  76. R.... D....

Sounds to me like *you're* the one crying, rump ranger. . . maybe you could ask your bf to use a little lube next time.

    Stay Frosty.

  77. R.... D....

Nope. . . I prefer David LEE Roth. Dunno who this GAY is you're talking about - unless he's your boyfriend. . .

  78. R.... D....

Crank "Atomic Punk" up to 11. . . and then see if you can force your fingers to say that this is the heaviest song Van Halen ever did. . .

  79. R.... D....

This is one of very few songs of the Hagar era that kick ass. . . that's why so many people don't care for Van Hagar. . .

As for me. . . this is my absolute favorite Van Hagar jam.

  80. C.... ....

    Unfortunately I must call BS...

  81. 1.... ....

Nice to know, now can you kindly escort yourself to the back of the line of people who could care less?

  82. t.... ....

    That's good idea!

  83. E.... C....

Not sure why a lot of people hate the Sammy Hager era of Van Halen. I mean this song plain kicks ass! :D

  84. G.... ....

With small cultural differences (I'm Australian) yes...paradise. Rock the fuck on Man.

  85. e.... ....

    Hagar HAGAR!

  86. A.... A....

I'm jamming to 5150 as of this moment. This album sure is a hell lot better than that shameful ; forgettable crap VH produced this yr. Sammy's voice is great !

  87. E.... b....

    Atomic Punk says hi too!

  88. B.... ....

Mean Street disagrees with you, and Loss of Control and Unchained as well. It's not a bad song but definitely NOT the the hardest/most heavy.

  89. T.... W....

This is awesome! Put this image in your head. Driving a 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 on the highway on a Saturday evening blasting this song on the stereo. Ain't that paradise right there?! It is for me!

    T.... W....

Im there exept my car is a 1957 Plymouth Fury. With a 440 v8 inside!

  90. A.... ....

The hardest/most heavy metal song they ever did. It really needed a better producer. Some real drums and a less processed guitar tone would have made this a hit.

    A.... ....

VH had Record Producer Ted Templeman since 78 up until the 1984 Album. Than with 5150 Producer Donn Landee. Plus VH. And Foreigner Mick Jones. Donn Produced VH till 1988. Ted came back for the 91 Album. Than left Again for the 93 & 94 Albums

  91. A.... S....

Well Hagar owns the rights so van halen cant do this song without him

  92. O.... F....

This song just screams DLR. A deaf man could tell that this was written for the Diamond voice! :P

  93. b.... ....

    Really, I dig this shit!

  94. j.... ....

This album really missed Ted Templeman's production.

    j.... ....

Truly agree. Templeman as a Producer was Great from 78 to 83. Still. Got Donn Landee to produce the Record. Along with the Band

  95. N.... ....

One of the few VH songs i hate. Love DLR and Sammy but this song just didnt work.

  96. M.... ....

Gary Cherone RULES!!! the album is GOOD!!!

    M.... ....

Gary did A great job on VH 3 Album Back in 96

  97. N.... ....

Well, you do eventually become who you surround yourself with. I could be a chick by now.

    N.... ....
