I love this album me and my school friend Steve played it off the turntable. Looking back now Heep/Hensley we’re getting more light weight and not just rehashing Easy Living! Which didn’t help his style. John certainly has an amazing voice. I think his visuals were part of what put people off at the time balding perm all that leather and in Trevor Bolders words that dodgy blue eye makeup! Heep fans just wanted to hear Byron sing the songs. Saw them on the Firefly tour and they were great though.

My first Uriah heep LP, bought 2nd hand off a school mate, I love it, I said to the seller "it's great Geoff don't they sound a bit like queen?" Referring to the backing vocals mainly, he replied " no queen sound like them" he was right....

I’ve only recently (last two years) explored Heep’s back catalog and am mystified at how the Lawton era is not only overlooked as the best music the band has ever produced but is not in the ranks of classic rock heavyweights. It’s got real soul and great songs.

Why Heep never seemed to let John Lawton let loose like this, is beyond me. His vocals here equal or rate above anything Byron did, and I am a Byron devotee, have everything he sang on, a few bootlegged. To hear John rip it up with Lucifer's Friend, I was so happy to hear he was coming to Heep. Sadly the AOR song after song releases on his three albums, never seemed to equate to his immeasurable range and power. What a waste. Thanks for this glimpse into what he was capable of.

Todd Stevens - Oh, you must be forgetting "Choices" and "Sympathy" too!  I like much of Lawton's softer stuff too - he does a great job on "Illusion", IMO.  In the end I rate Byron and Lawton as equal but different in talent, with Hensley perhaps because of the drugs not "sync'ing" well as often with Lawton (or maybe Hensley just wanted to go a different direction).  But, when Hensley wrote well to Lawton's strengths, as here, it was darn good stuff!

Ken Hensley não está + na banda! Eu tive o privilégio de ver um "show" deles em Curitiba, 1993 ou 1994, abrindo para o Nazareth, demais mesmo foram bem superiores ao Naza na ocasião!

Esse som é simplesmente fascinante!

Красивая, нежная, полная страсти композиция. Как и для многих лучших номеров "Юрайя Хип" для нее характерны оптимальное сочетание лиризма и динамизма, мелодичности и полифоничности. К сожалению, эта вещь не получила должной оценки и признания, как и практически все, даже самые лучшие композиции этой превосходной группы, записанные после 1975 года.

Хочу немного откорректировать. Вышедший в 1977 году альбом Светлячок и два последующих альбома Невинная жертва и Падший ангел с участием Джона Лоутона были оценены по достоинству и имели хорошие продажи в Европе и других континентах кроме Англии и США, где в то время стали доминировать панки и прочие направления, которые, кстати, не продолжались столь долго. Альбомы эры Лоутона зачастую не хотели признавать старые фэны Юрайа Хип, которые никак не могли смириться с выдворением Дэвида Байрона, хотя, мне кажется, это было вполне естественным, если знать, что вытворял в последние годы пребывания в этой группе этот певец. Фэны Байрона всячески пытаются принизить роль Лоутона и их психология вполне понятна. Ведь Лоутон обладал потрясающими вокальными данными, которые он в значительной степени сохраняет и до сих пор, а фэнам Байрона это тоже не очень нравится. Но тем не менее я знаю очень многих фэнов Хипов, которые вынуждены признать, что Лоутон не хуже, а лучше и по вокальным данным, и по профессиональному исполнению на концертах. А что касается ситуации в Хипах после ухода Лоутона, то это уже отдельная тема. Следует только отметить, что эта группа сумела преодолеть проблемы и продолжает активно действовать до сих. А Джон Лоутон время от времени выступает вместе с  ними.

Не переживай. Все кому надо помнят и слушают. Это одна из моих любимых песен. Лоутон форевор. Хотя я родился в 1961.

Not one of the main tracks on Firefly by any means, but Heep still do a great job with it. Great John Lawton vocals & background synthesiser by Ken Hensley. For me, this LP was easily the best of the John Lawton era.

I respectfully disagree @ Dave. For me, this is one of the few songs where John is able to use the entire depth of his vocals, mixed with the "Heep" sound of the first few albums. The "sound" of this could of been from Salisbury or Look at Yourself. Prime Heep, and yes by far John's best Heep album, less pablum and ballads, which does not allow John to bring his immense vocal abilities to the forefront, ala his Lucifer Friend era.
