Urge Overkill - The Break Lyrics

I need a break and I need one clean
Things are never what they seem
What seems close is so far away
You keep runnin' out of words to say, but I keep on singing anyway

'Cause I'm never goin' back there
No I'm never goin' back there
Folks don't really talk much about it anymore

'Cause it's a place with no way in it
It's a road to no way out
I'm asleep when I'm awake
Can't get a break
And I'm falling out
I'm falling down again
And I'm calling out
I'm calling out to you
Yes I'm falling out
I'm falling down again

'Cause it's a place with no way in it
It's a road to no way out
Everything ends in a heart ache
Can't get a break
And I'm falling out
I'm falling down again
And I'm calling out
I'm calling out to you
Yes I'm falling out
I'm falling down again
And I'm calling out
I'm calling out to you

No one calls much anymore
That's OK 'cause I don't use the phone
It feels better on your own
But don't get waisted every day alone

And I'm never goin' back there
I don't care
I don't want to talk much anymore

'Cause it's a place with no way in it
It's a road to no way out
Everything ends in a heart ache
Can't get a break
And I'm falling out
I'm falling down again
And I'm calling out
I'm calling out to you
Yes I'm falling out
I'm falling down again
And I'm calling out
I'm calling out to you

Urge Overkill The Break Comments
  1. courascrap

I love the way this song slowly builds up then explodes at the chorus

  2. Matt Celis

Sister Havana has better looking girls.

  3. SumnerCounty1986

...." but don't get wasted every day alone.."

  4. Mighty Mike Midget Murga

Amazing cool music video bass 🎵🎶🎵🎶🎩🎸🎬📽🎸🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵

  5. It's Just Me

Urge Overkill ( with Blackie) and Buffalo Tom would be a great double bill. Hope Blackie is doing well. The 90's were rough for me also.

  6. H3AVYHAUL3R

it feels better on your own but don’t get wasted everyday alone....

most certainly a true set of lyrics 20yrs on dealing with women/relationships...#mgtow

  7. Ultrasuede

I'd never seen the video for this awesome song until now. Love it! Saturation and Exit the Dragon are two incredible albums that I still rank in the top echelon of my all-time favorite albums. And my most sincere wishes go out to Ed 'King' Roeser as he recovers from the heart attack he had in late May. Hope you fully recover soon, Ed, and that you have many years of rockin' in the future.

    Animo et Prudentia

I hadn't heard that about Eddie. Thanks for sharing, even though I'm 14 months behind.

  8. 1200ulysses

my favorite guitar licks ever. this song slays me. thank you uo.

  9. mountaingoat1003

This is a pretty good song

  10. mrcinemajunky

The video for "Somebody Else's Body" was shot at "The Bank"...Urge headquarters (same place Liz Phair shot her video for Supernova...Blackie makes an appearance in that one). The guy standing on the front steps, the girl making out in the hallway, and the girl standing by the jukebox are all my cousins. Some of y best times back then were spent there...really sad to see that chapter come to an end. RIP Jim Ellison.

    mrcinemajunky

Chicago, Il...it was called The Bank because, well, it used to actually be a bank at one time...a LONG time ago. But ever since I lived in that neighborhood (1970) it was used as a home.

  11. The Flayed Man

My top 2 albums of all time, in terms of wearing out and loving are:

    (1) Appetite for Destruction
    (2) Exit the Dragon

These guys have to be the most underrated band in the world.

    Rino Ambord

    urge overkill emali

    Saturation !!!!!

    Agnes Woiley

The Flayed Man they really are.

  13. Lucas Lucas

What is the meaning of the lyrics of the song?

  14. grgoldner

These guys need support and now.

  15. Renee Marwan Qrinawi

I would really love to know details of what happened to this band.around 1992 I worked in a bingo hall around hallendale /hollywood FL border beside a MiamiSub, I met an older-ish regular and I asked her whats up with the shirt. She said it was her sons band. Is this true? Sister Havana was my theme song of life for a yr. Still rocks would love to know the truth

    EAT, DRINK & BE!

@Renee Marwan Qrinawi That was probably Blackie's Mom...last I had heard anything he was down in Florida. I haven't seen or spoken to any of them since about 94. They used to live up the street from me.

  16. jim turley

these guys are the best IMHO.

  17. Cortney Wrong

these guys just rule. forgot how so very good they are. PLEASE come back to perth western australia one day!!!

  18. musicsunhappy

Im asleep when im awake.  Love it.  UO, i am patiently waiting for a Chicago show again.

  19. ****AZUR AZEEN**** Enochian

Blackie O really owns as a drummer. He reminds me of Bill Ward's playing in Black Sabbath, just right on point with the right amount of swing

    michael hermanson

very Stones'y circa mid 70's me thinks

    Big Ulf

    what happened to him

  20. Michael Ohare

    love this song

  21. Denny Sensation

Very solid band! Better than  most new bands these days

  22. munsell10yr

UO were screwed by the success of "Saturation." Take it out of the timeline, and the progression from "Supersonic Storybook" to 'Stull" to "Exit the Dragon" makes perfect sense. Unfortunately, the enigma, "Saturation", was the mega hit.

    Charles Knuckleston

I've read they made Saturation to prove a point - was directly intended for commercial success. Good thing, too. Opened a lot of people to these guys, still waiting for another new album!

    MrNewembassy

I'm guilty of giving up on this band numerous times, only to be proven wrong by one awesome album after another. They are making an announcement tomorrow about a show, and I feel it is necessary for me to be there. Signed, the 48 year old who bought Jesus Urge Superstar when it came out. Oh, and I skipped out early on my first day at trade school to see UO w/ Nirvana in '91 but missed UO, one of a very few regrets.

    WillieD7

I haven't listened to this album 1/500th of the times I've listened to Saturation. To me, the groove of this song was just way beyond everything else on Exit. Exit also had more tracks with Eddie vocals - which is fine - but I think Nash could carry weaker songs better than Eddie.

  23. ronhelf

Take Urge over the rather derivative and overhyped, particularly by themselves, Smashing Pumpkins any day. Oh and I am not from Chicago.

  24. SumnerCounty1986

This is Urge Overkill's " Chinatown." That is, Urge Overkill-"Exit The Dragon"-1995=Thin Lizzy-"Chinatown"-1980. The Break SHOUL HAVE BEEN TRACK 1! Song FREAKIN' KICKS ASS!!!! "This Is The Break, Break It"-Eddie"King" Roeser. BEST Alt/Grunge BAND this side of Nirvana/Alice In Chains/Faith No More.

  25. Shelley Modica

Thanks for putting Humble Pie out there...you've got GREAT taste. You like UO!!!

  26. Shelley Modica

Gotta love our own alternate universes!!! Rock on!!!

  27. Shelley Modica

Pumpkins had their moments, but I never had an "urge" to see them live. When I finally got to see UO live, I got to drink beer with them and see a fantastic show. Got a feelin' Billy wouldn't have been so friendly...

  28. Bryan McCarthy

@mpaulrealty Totally agree...Exit was Exile for UO.

  29. WarmothGuitarist

@jodysoldman Sorry to break it to you, holmes...but this band will never be known for anything. The Smashing Pumpkins crushed any dreams these guys ever had of making it big outside of Chicago.

  30. Tim McNurnanen

@decristo because this is trash that you could put together in a day of fucking around if you really wanted to. it is absolutely tasteless and talentless and i can't fucking believe people find this listenable.

  31. Tim McNurnanen

@decristo1021 This is a great band if you are okay with being bored while you are listening to it.

  32. ilpunitore

@leokearse True. They should have sold ten mill not Pearl Jam. In my alternate universe, Urge Overwill and Material Issue were the Pearl Jam and Nirvana of 1991 thru 94.

  33. ilpunitore

@toemasie Well put. That sums it up in one sentence. And ever since Nirvan hit the scene over 20 years ago, this style of rock and roll is just a niche for people like us...

  34. ilpunitore

@mcnaryw Everyone's got their own tastes, but if you think this is terrible, it makes me think you just don't like real rock like the Stones, KISS, Humble Pie, Big Star, Cheap Trick, etc. I don't get how anyone who professes to love rock and roll doesn't think Urge is the best kept secret of the last 25 years....

  35. ilpunitore

@VoodooEpidemic It's almost like there were TOO many hooks for the bloated, phony Pearl Jam/Nirvana era, you know? This is pure 70s rock/pop, 15 to 20 or so years after the fact....

  36. ilpunitore

@jodysoldman Maybe THE best? I honestly can't think of a better one. Maybe Material Issue? Thing is, Urge was all about the Stones, Cheap Trick, Zep, KISS and the other titans of the 70s...they had nothing to do with their "peers" of the Seattle crap....the first few bars of this tune are pure, stuttering Keith guitar....

  37. Tim McNurnanen

    this is fucking terrible

  38. Xiola Baeza

just got done seeing'/hanging with them at bumbershoot in seattle. long live american rock and roll.

  39. John C.

    @otto3663 lmao!

  40. godlizza80

@gamby123 "Tin Foil" is probably my favorite! Agreed, that should have been a single.

  41. grgoldner

    @jodysoldman

    Agreeeedd

  42. jodysoldman

Classic Blackie at the 3 minute mark

  43. paulooca67

    VEVO eats ass.

  44. doctorshifty83

Urge and Overkill...two band names in one. lol.

  45. jodysoldman

when the dust settles this band will get their due as one of the Best of the 90's

  46. ...It's all too wrong to make it right... The Cure Forever!!!!

Great band, great video and great cd...

  47. Mrsilenciobackgammon

Looking good and playing great music was not in fashion in 1995. Self-loathing and blowing your face off above the greenhouse was. There were many things about my generation that were so fucking lame. This is not one of them.

  48. David Otto

WOW - THESE GUYS ARE BAD ASS - PARALLEL WITH THE "QUEENS" -DIFFERENT BUT COOL - DON'T MAKE ME KILL YOU - I WILL

  49. MrsFish7

I never understood all the negativity about UO...all the stalker crap and Albini snipes.... they are a GREAT band who have 'something' that most bands would give an arm and a leg for......they were Chicago indie, they got a break and produced 2 Big Time CLASSIC albums..... the music speaks for itself....and now they're BACK!!! I'm [email protected]' happy.........

  50. interceptor

one of my favourite songs from a dislike band

  51. pyenapple

NEW URGE OVERKILL SONG "Effigy" out today, September 14, 2010!

  52. verve71

Fuckin great song, great album, and great band....

  53. yomfnmammy

Good God I love UO!! This song/video F-N SCREAMS 90's!! Better times, better music! I truly miss those days...

  54. leokearse

I wasn't blown away by SATURATION although it had a wicked album cover, but this album is one of the best rock albums of all time, one of the greatest 'lost' albums of all time if you know what I mean, they deserved to be huge.

  55. johnnyfal1

    great song, really
