When thiis song was played on a country music awards show & I believe it may have been its debut years ago. Our 3 year old started running thru the living room saying daddys song, daddy's song pointing at the TV and my husband and I came out of the bedroom to hear it and were speechless. Within seconds his phone began to ring from friends wanting to know why he hadn't told them this song was picked up. This is song is very, very similar and it was thought by our friends that it was changed a bit in studio by professionals . Hubbies song title is "Everyone Needs Somebody, Everybody Someone" the other words and sound are similar.
He wrote it the day I told him we were pregnant with our second child, he was so excited and crying tears of joy as we had been trying for a couple of years.. He literally sat on the front porch with guitar pen & paper and 10 minutes later there he was singing it to me. I've seen him play it and have seen people cry during the performance including this one man one night that was moved because he was older and had yet to meet his someone. Some friends heard him play it multiple times for about 3 years and knew he had just sent his recording in with 5 other songs he wrote about 6 months before to a large and famous publishing company who offered him a contract directly. He was reviewing the the contract and called to get details when he was told by them they had some interest in one of the songs. We were young with a young family trying to make our way, so he wanted to know what song and what happens next, he was told to sign and then any specifics for the song of interest would be discussed but they were happy to go over any questions about the contract. He asked about the song again and they said there could be some royalties involved.

Long story short, he didn't sign as he felt his hand was being forced and wanted to shop the songs around a bit more first with other companies. He always regretted that he just didn't sign it on the spot all though it locked him to them for the entire term. It was a lot for a young husband and dad of 2, inexperienced in such matters to take in such a demanding timeframe

We couldn't wait to get the CD of Keith and if I remember correctly it said Keith & Richard Marx wrote the song you see in this video. This broke my husband and his dreams. He is still a huge fan of Keith, he's one of his favorites and loves his talent and knows that anything is possible. Our friends advised us differently but we just went on with life. His songs were copywritten and an attorney told him that when someone changes a song even a bit it is harder to prove and could be arbitrated either way ultimately. He listened to each along wih people who hadn't heard either and some said pursue leagal action. We didn't have money to do anything much, much less pay a lawyer against a large publishing company.

He kept writting though, that boy always is and went from 6 songs to hundreds if not 1000 range written since thru the years and just got better & better thru schooling and groups. Whether or not they were writing such a similar song 3 years after he wrote his and approximately 6 months after his 1st attempt to get his out there, he learned a lesson. Our kiddos are older now we made it in life so he has recently been pursuing avenues more carefully this time. He said he didn't want to be on his dying bed someday regreting that he didn't at least keep trying. So glad to see that dream back in his eye, as this crushed him inside either way for years and he lost hope in the industry, but never his songs or playing and singing. Can't wait for the journey either way.... Throw a prayer up if you believe please. God Bless All!

Bennett Hale, I know what it's like to be bullied or feel like no one cares about you. A couple years ago I felt like no one cared about me. Music really helped me get through it.
