Too bad such a solid band had to operate in the shadow cast by John Foxx. Commercially it was a jackpot. Artistically a lot spottier. I'd go so far as to guess John Foxx is a genius and he took it with him when he left. Midge Ure had an adequate voice and some songwriting talent and a tiny curly little mustache that fills me with the compulsion to slap him. John Foxx he is not though he was obviously irreplaceable.

Not agreed. though the first albums with John Foxx were also good they hit a different time, the band fortunately changed from post punk to new wave (some say new romantics but i dont agree on that) and produced phantastic songs which still are unique in their quality by far not only because of Midges extraordinary voice. Having heard the band live made clear that they are all brilliant musicians and perform the music on highest level, which other bands can only dream off. These two albums based on Billie´s composing are ok but not the "real Ultravox"

@Florian Schott Agreed, John foxx was from a different and earlier time,as you say post punk.
Just look at the amount of times John has reinvented his style and type of music to keep up with trend and demand, only an avid follower of John Foxx would see this, personally i think the man is an absolute genius and at his current age he's still doing what he does best.

I have had both these albums since they were first released. But nice to see them on here, as it helps to offer the chance for more people to hear them. Of course it’s not Foxx era nor Midge era Ultravox.
But both of these albums with the line ups of Tony Fennelle and then Sam Blue, feature some very good songs, and lots of Billy Currie special moments.
Under-rated albums, very enjoyable.

For me it feels like another band

Danny Talebi that’s one of the good things about it Danny. It has echoes of ultravox classic motifs here and there. But equally it’s fresh in places too and sounds like a different band. And of course it would do with only Billy as the original member. It’s all good. Cheers.

Way better than 99% of the music about the charts these days.
