Ultravox - Reap The Wild Wind Lyrics

Reap the wild wind
Reap the wild wind

Reap the wild wind
Reap the wild wind

A finger points to show a scene (take my hand, take my hand)
Another face where mine had been (take my hand, take my hand)
Another footstep where I once walked (take my hand)
Take it all

You take my hand and give me your friendship
I'll take my time and send you my slow reply
Give me an inch, and I'll make the best of it
Take all you want and leave all the rest to die

Reap the wild wind

A footprint haunts an empty floor (take my hand, take my hand)
A fading coat that I once wore (take my hand, take my hand)
Oh, a desolation where I once lived

I have seen in times gone by
I have felt
A different shadow on the wall
A stranglehold on a certain feeling

You take my hand and give me your friendship
I'll take my time and send you my slow reply
Give me an inch, and I'll make the best of it
Take all you want and leave all the rest to die

Reap the wild wind
Reap the wild wind

You take my hand and give me your friendship
I'll take my time and send you my slow reply
Give me an inch, and I'll make the best of it
Take all you want and leave all the rest to die

Reap the wild wind

It's the best song on the album....🙄

  2. T.... ....

Always good to see a couple of Series 3 in a music video. Should be at number 1 for 14 weeks for this reason alone.

  3. N.... H....

Until the vocal it's pure 80s OMD

    N.... H....

@ Nick Horton :... and what do you think it is once the vocals kick in !!! 90's rap or sumfink !!! :-o

  4. l.... ....

Opening synth riff is what makes this song.

  8. H.... C....

After the synth and the gated snare, a good bass is the real sound of the 80s

    Che musica 80 80 80

  11. A.... U....

    Vana hästi laagerdunud ....👌

  12. V.... W....

I think this song is the 2nd highest rated Ultravox song on Spotify, so its interesting that this song has less views then some of their other songs.

    V.... W....

@ Victor Wilson: When you consider the fact that this is just an obscure user channel then it's hardly surprising the view count is quite low. Most people never get past the so called "Official" (usually from Vevo) offerings when looking for music on YouTube and therefore channels like this get very little notice from most YouTube users...

Tis their loss in my opinion and if they want to watch the poor quality uploads on the likes of "Vevo" and never discover better quality uploads on other channels then good luck to them, view counts don't matter to me, all that matter is that those who do discover better quality uploads like this enjoy them... ;-)

  13. J.... A....

José Antonio Alonso Velasco España 🇪🇸

  14. C.... S....

One of their best and got that 80s feel. Midge looking very Slick.

  15. G.... G....

Wow, it seems Midge flew in both world wars and survived.....

  16. a.... ....

Such a choice track, makes me excited and happy. 80s rule. Youth, learn from the 80s and then you will know what real music is.

  17. S.... W....

    Classic 80s ❤

  18. a.... ....

Is it just me or do so many 80's songs give you that feeling of inspiration & soaring above it all?!😊✌

  19. c.... ....

That was such a moving song and so fantastic !! I could listen to Ultravox and never get tired of them. I really miss music such as this. Let's face it...Music today just sucks !!

  20. C.... P....

    STUPENDA...

  21. S.... J....

    Wonderful record, truly timeless.

  22. G.... J....

I still think Ultravox sound great and always will!

  23. G.... M....

Produced by the fifth Beatle. Great song.

  24. U.... W....

For me Ultravox was much better when John Foxx was the lead singer. He was the founder of Ultravox. The original lineup was John Foxx, Billy Curie: keyboards, synths, violin, and viola, Stevie Shears: guitar (later replaced by Robin Simon), Chris Cross: bass guitar, keyboards, and backing vocals, Warren Cann: drums (drum machine(s) first recording on second album), and backing vocals.

    U.... W....

Underground Warrior first album, yes. Rest = no

    U.... W....

Then Midge Ure replaced Robin Simon.

    U.... W....

@Nick Alkire And replaced John Foxx on vocals as well. It was Billy Currie who reformed Ultravox by bringing in Midge Ure.

  25. F.... N....

Let's be honest everything is garbage now. Society and music just died. All we are left with is legions of snowflakes who want and demand. I just hate it and I hate modern living and everyone is anxious.

    F.... N....

I agree, movies lack any originality sequel after sequel or dull reboots. CGI effects look like CGI effects. Music has fallen into studio production rather than actual musicians. It's the same old sounding song's hip hop is sadly the same prerecorded bass tracts remixed over and over. Pop music is uninspired sameness it's corporate music. During the 1980s their were 60 media companies now only 6 that explains much. Look what's happened to You Tube corporate culture smashing creativity....

    F.... N....

I agree. I was 15 when this song was released, todays garbage doesn't even come close to this kind of music.

    F.... N....

Its not that bad, its just that all of the good ideas have been thought of, nothing lasts forever, get over it.

    F.... N....

First Name : listen to Mozart...

    F.... N....

Time to take it back ...the twenties decade will be ours🇬🇧🇺🇸✝️

  26. s.... s....

    love the bass in this

    s.... s....

Chris Cross is the bass guitar player.

    s.... s....

@Underground Warrior I know, been a fan for over 40 years

    s.... s....

@susan sturdy I forgot to mention that I did see Ultravox in concert in 1979 (I was 23) with John Foxx and Robin Simon on guitar at the Whiskey A-Go-Go in West Hollywood, CA. Island Records dropped them shortly after the release of their 3d album 'Systems of Romance', and Ultravox financed their own tour that year here in the U.S. John Foxx had already decided to quit the band that year. The rest of the band members saw that coming. You can hear some of their songs that was recorded on YouTube from the Whiskey A Go-Go, but no video footage. the recordings are not of good quality, but worth listening to.

  27. B.... D....

    B.... D....

    I was about 12 or 13 🕶🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪

  34. L.... G....

1983, 14 years old when I first heard it. 2019, still 14 when I hear it now. 2030...I know I'll still be 14. Ultravox, Midge Ure, my youngest son is 19, U still bring me back to 14.

  35. M.... S....

They may want to downplay trying to encapsulate life's main problems as topics for their songs. It is a bit hard winded.

    M.... S....

@ Matthew Suffidy: Bizarre comment and probably on of the dumbest I've ever read about music/ songs to be honest !!!

Great musicians/ songwriters/ artists write about things that actaully matter to them or they care about or find important in their songs...

It would appear that for you then they shouldn't do that and instead should just write some mind numbing cheesy pop claptrap to pander to those like yourself who find anything other than cheesy pop claptrap too much for your wee brain cell to handle..

Now off you go and listen to some Black Lace as that would apparently be far more suitable for you in your catatonic state... ;-)

    M.... S....

@MadFranko008 he commented about 20 hours ago.!!!!.... not at least 20 years ago ! be kind to him as he has only just found the VOX! lol

    M.... S....

Mathew Suffidy Try not to be so pompous and stupid.....songwriters can write about whatever they want so go away and write your own shitty crap songs.

  36. S.... B....

Love Ultravox and used to fancy Midge what a dish he was.

    S.... B....

Yes..me too. Would have loved that kiss! I'm 63 now. Still a great thought though. And Midge is still a hero of mine.

    S.... B....

I had the privilege of meeting him a couple of years ago after a gig in Basingstoke, he was such a nice guy to talk to.

    👍👍❤❤

  53. A.... M....

So awesome from a different era unlike today's "songs" about gangstas and hoes.

  54. S.... R....

Growing up in the 80's was a magical time that know one could understand unless you were there...time machine needed here!

    S.... R....

Funny, you don't appreciate it whilst you were living through it.... Thought it would last forever.

  55. D.... P....

My all time favorite band. They sang great songs and made great videos and Midge Ure is the coolest that ever lived!

  56. H.... H....

What has gone wrong with the world and the crap music today we were all so looky to of grew up in the 80s

  57. J.... K....

I was 12 when the song came out. Didn't appreciate it, or the video, but I really think the song is wonderful and the video takes me back to such a simpler happier time ... when it was me and my MTV.

  58. R.... b....

    GREAT SONG, GREAT VIDEO.

  59. W.... C....

    Fantastic

  60. B.... B....

Favorite MTV video and song I was 15 1982

    B.... B....

    I was 17 great time ;)

  61. j.... t....

    Tooooooon

  62. E.... ....

Warren Cann looked so hot in vintage uniforms.

  63. k.... w....

In the 80s, the song mattered, not the video. Sad that nowadays the music video seems to have become more important than the music. This video could have been a dot on a screen but it would still be a brilliant song

    k.... w....

@ keith wallace: Rest assured as someone who grew up in the 80s then the videos really did matter, yes the songs/music are the most important thing but the advent in the mid to late 70's of the music video brought another whole new level of enjoyment to music and music fans... ;-)

It's also great to be able to look back on these old videos and clips of our favourite music/ artist and bands as they are an added bonus/ visual memory of the music and times we enjoyed back then that where a big part of our youth as well as the memories we have in our minds eye... ;-)

I for one am glad I grow up in the era where music videos came into being I'm sure as hell glad that they are here today for us all to look back on and enjoy and for younger people to discover and get glimpse into what it really was like in the best era for music of the past... ;-)

    k.... w....

    Spot on

    k.... w....

@MadFranko008 No band had more No 1's than The Jam in the 80's and they were never about the video's,they were all about being Britain's greatest ever band (the yanks just didnt get The Jam but the yanks also didnt get Morecambe and Wise and Only fools and Horses) and that's what makes them special and more British than all that new romantic 80's shit!

    k.... w....

@ Chris Johnson: I'd disagree with al lot of what you said there, The Jam made plenty of good promo videos but they weren't Britain's greatest ever band, not by a long shot... ;-)

As for UK number ones then your wrong on that too I'm afraid, in the 80's sadly Madonna had the most number one hits in our charts... :-/

The Jam were great but not the greatest and I'd even put Ultravox above them when it comes to my favourite bands of all time... ;-)

  64. J.... ....

Ya ever loved a song for decades, then you see the video and it kinda ruins it? This.

    J.... ....

@ JudyGurl: Nope... and I reckon the video is pretty good and adds to the whole thing... ;-)

    J.... ....

    JudyGurl

    I love this video 😎✌🏽🍀🌈🌈

  65. M.... ....

Midge Ure - cowrote this amazing song which honors heroes from the past + key contributor to LiveAid + Band Aid + Live 8 + co-wrote Do They Know Its Christmas. Absolutely underrated but great philanthropist and a guy who knows what is important.

    M.... ....

@MadFranko008 Still the best damn male voice ever as far as I'm concerned, so much power

    M.... ....

@ Danny Ives: Definitely one of the very best and unmistakable when you hear it then you know straight away who's singing... :-)

    M.... ....

@MadFranko008 Depends on where you live. In the US, he unfortunately is not well known. Most people I know do not know who he is. I loved him since I was 15. I'm 53 now. I've seen him perform 2 times in a NYC club that holds about 200 people. I also saw him opening for the Human League last year in Glasgow. All performances were excellent and he's extremely nice in person.

    M.... ....

@ Go Jump: When it comes to being "underrated" which is what the OP mentioned then thankfully the USA does not define any band or artists status/ legacy if that band/ artist are not from the USA... ;-)

Many very highly rated bands/ artists from all over the world are little known in the USA, but just because they are little know there then it doesn't make them underrated in the slightest as far as a band or artists status/ legacy goes... sadly some Americans can't seem to grasp that simple concept though and often express such ignorance here on this channel...

It'd be a bit like me saying for example... "The Eagles are a highly underrated band" just because they only ever really had one top ten hit here in the UK. Now that would be a rather stupid thing for me to say about such a highly rated band all because it would be based on nothing more than my own ignorance of them...

So you see it's not really dependant on where you live as you said as where you live doesn't prevent you from looking up the background and facts of any band/ artist which you personally may not know much about before saying something like "they are underrated", happily you appear to be one of those rare few Americans that does wisely know something about the artist of which you are speaking... ;-)

    M.... ....

@MadFranko008 Yeah, I've always been someone who hasn't liked what is considered popular here in the US (although a lot of 1980's "new wave" music is more popular here now than it was in the 1980's).
I have several Youtube channels, and one (search amg nyc wlir) has my favorites from a station WLIR that played all sorts of great music mostly from Europe. I listened since 1980 and loved that music since. In the late 80s, when I was a disc jockey in college, I found industrial (later called EBM) music to be among my favorite, and expanded my taste after that to what was then termed "World Music".
I usually love things that most people do not like or know, and going to concerts at small venues. Seeing the Cure and Depeche Mode at Madison Square Garden was such a miserable experience and I only regretted not seeing them both in small night clubs in the 80s when I had the chance.
Last year, I decided to travel to see 5 new wave concerts in 5 cities (in 6 days, 800 miles by train - Wolverhampton, Gloucester, Liverpool, Glasgow and Dublin)
I also have some favorite songs by Moroccan (legendary Nass el Ghiwane) and Algeria (Rachid Taha, et al), Nigerian, Pakistani, and elsewhere. Most recently, I've been on an 80's-inspired bent and captivated by the Turkish darkwave group, She Past Away.

In the US, groups like Boney M were not played much (or ever?) I was floored when I found them on Youtube, and then learned how popular they were (are) in other countries. I felt left out but I caught up, thanks to Youtube. ;-)

Another great tune from these guys.
For 5 years all they did was produce damn good music.

  76. V.... A....

BRAVO! BRAVO! How sad, that this beautiful music is now GONE FOREVER and erased from humanity today's times....... Now they all try to brainwash the newer generations w/such filth from the sewer, known as "hip - hop" and/or gangsta rap!!! The dumbing down of the world....... JAY-Z, BEYONCE........ (C)RAP = CRAP = SHIT = GARBAGE....... SAD!

    V.... A....

Careful with the word GARBAGE - better use waste ;-DDD
Garbage was a great band from the 90s!!!!

    V.... A....

Why gone forever??? Music is forever, not gone forever. Still in 50 years you can listen to this masterpiece.

  77. S.... R....

    Great album <3

  78. J.... D....

Is it just me, or it sounds a little bit like Bowie? ❤

  79. A.... ....

Man....my uncle had this green Sony tape...90 mins...recorded BBC radio. I think Simon Wright was one of the DJ's. This was one of the tracks on it. I can't let that tome go. Life is so shit now.

  81. a.... w....

Europe wake up ! You were so beautiful

Yes! I’m hoping for a 3rd British music invasion before its too late 🙏💜🎵

  82. O.... E....

I miss the 80's...less rules... Less oppression.. Simpler.... Plus the music was better 🤣🤣
I'm 51now..loving life, with its ups and downs ❤️❤️❤️

    O.... E....

@ Owen Edwards : The mid to late 70's to the mid to late 80's was indeed the best era for music but you can't have lived in the UK at that time during the Thatcher era where there was more "rules" and the the UK was at the height of oppression... ;-)

Mind you, even living in Thatchers Grim Britain I still wouldn't have swapped it for the world, it made us who we are... ;-)

    O.... E....

@MadFranko008 After assembling my list for my top thirty albums the year that came up the most is 1982. I'm just a teen, but man do I love the New Wave and such of the early 80s.

    O.... E....

    I would say 70s through 1984

    O.... E....

MadFrankoOO8,80's music was generally quite upbeat and rarely reflected Thatchers Britain, yet no band had more No 1's than The Jam in the 80's (the band who did make social commentary) and still my favourite band, the nostalgia people have for the 80's is for lost youth and we tend to forget how grim it was it times.

    O.... E....

Thatcher and Reagan. The 80´s cooked our oppression, don forget it.

  86. s.... r....

yes folks... life was so simple... we had no stress... we had no worrries.. we could conquer anything
many years later reality sets in and we all wish we could go back to those years when this song made each of our times special

    s.... r....

@ saint r: ... and life can still be simple, have no stress and no worries and you can still conquer anything... ;-)

The only "reality" that sets in for some is the false reality of giving up on your dreams and what you believe in as you grew jaded and old and gave up on all those things... :-/

The reality is that for many including myself we never let life get complicated, let things stress us out or worry about things and life is still just as special now as it was then... :-)

Try it, cos life's too short to lose your dreams or get stressed out and worry about anything in it. Life can be just the same carefree life now as it was back then, the only thing not allowing it is yourself... ;-)

  87. G.... J....

    Charles it certainly is !
    From there '82 album I think ?

    G.... J....

@ Geoffrey Jonathan Wilson: Erm... you're supposed to reply to some on the actual post they made... cos as time goes on and your posts get separated then no one will know who you are talking/ replying too...

PS: Plus "Charlie" wont get notified of your post cos you didn't reply on his comment... ;-)

the best of the Best the 80s had on Radio & Clubs...? Ultravox Reap the Wild Wind

  90. R.... L....

This is not their best - resonant of emotional ties.

    R.... L....

@ RICHARD LAVERSUCH : I beg to differ, this is one of their very best, that aside I aint got a scooby doo what these "emotional ties" are that you speak of !!!

    R.... L....

@MadFranko008 I did like hearing this at first; but now it reminds me of a bad time in the dim and distant...

    R.... L....

@ RICHARD LAVERSUCH: Just because the song now reminds you of something personal that happened in your dim and distant past that doesn't make it "not their best". It's still just as good as you said when you first heard it and liked it and whatever happened to you personally in your life doesn't change that fact the actual song/ music is still one of their best...

It's only your personal feelings that have changed because of something that has happened in your life that has changed, the song and music are still one of the bands best ever... ;-)

    R.... L....

@MadFranko008 I agree. But this is a forum for written communication that is good, a frank exchange of views.

    R.... L....

@ RICHARD LAVERSUCH: It is indeed and I just simply gave you my views regarding what you said... ;-)
