Ultravox - Brilliant Lyrics

This song hit many spots. Class. I would love to know how well this would have done in the pop world should this have been possible to have followed 'Vienna' in 1981. So atmospheric, lyrics so brilliant as title

It is a brilliant album, just wish they'd do more stuff....Also, Chris Cross's unique bass playing was a driving force and this is lacking.

In the 80's, this would have been a huge success with worldwide airplay; this is the musical essence of geniuses. And today, it's still unforgettable quality music far above average.

I cannot understand that the reviews were not positive... this is classic Ultravox .. OK, more based on synths than guitars, but that's what I liked in them... The  Vienna  to Quartet era. All the songs feature good melodies... Which is what Midge Ure does the best.

Few of the bands that have made a come-back in these last years were able to make a record that doesn't sound like a repetition of the old stuff or just sound like a band that has nothing to do with the band they were. This sounds totally like fresh Ultravox.

Such a fitting title for a song.....

Sublime come back CD for this legendary 1980's band, remaining faithful to their sound and audience, without one bit sounding 'passé'... It's a pity to see all this brilliant music not getting the airplay it deserves ! Steve Gould's (Level 42) Colour of my pain, David Gilmour's On an island etc, such beautiful pearls, religiously denied to the masses by lazy deejay's who decide for others what is supposed to be "hip"... Fortunately there's Youtube, to make all those splendid discoveries. After having heard this Ultravox CD 2 years ago on this site, I immediately bought it. Never regretted it for one bit.

I saw you in Bologna in 1981 with Rage in Eden. From that moment on I have been following you, and I always will. With my band we play "Dancing with tears in my eyes" but i would like to cover more songs of yours. "Lament" was the soundtrack of my first love. Ciao, Roberto from Bologna.

OMG I didnt even know about this album .  Never too late I guess. 

Great song. I love the arrangement and how the keyboards always figured prominently into the Ultravox signature sound. Sounds like nothing else to me.

Es el primer álbum nuevo en 28 años por la alineación clásica de Ultravox con Midge Ure, Billy Currie, Warren Cann y Chris Cross, el último había sido Lament del año 1984.

The Brilliant album can be summed up this way:
"Those who never knew Ultravox will scratch their heads at this new LP and not understand what the big deal is.  Those who knew them in their 80s heyday will hear the first notes of the album, know instantly and totally that the Quartet are BACK, and smile quietly to themselves as they nod along to Warren's drumming."   :)

I'm afraid not. As a long term ultravox fan this album was at best mediocre for me, and thats being kind. This was the only half decent song but its still only B side quality compared to their old stuff.

Thanks for posting this. It comes out swinging and pulls no punches.

Highlight of 2012 for me was seeing them in concert at Manchester and Blackpool and meeting Midge ,Billy and Warren after ...as a life long Uvox fan it was very special occasion for me .

Back after a long break but still brilliant.

The album reminds me a lot of "Lament". It has the same vibe, although "Lament" was a little darker. Otherwise it is very close. Congrats to the band for that. It doesn't sound dated or modern, it is timeles! Only trouble with this album is that Ure's voice isn't as powerful as it used to be.
