U2 - Paint It Black Lyrics

I see a red door
And I want it painted black
No colors anymore
I want them to turn black
I see the girls walk by
Dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head
Until my darkness goes

I see a line of cars
And they're all painted black
With flowers and my love
Both never to come back
I see them turn their heads
Quickly look away
Like a newborn baby
It just happens every day

I look inside my self
See my heart is back
I see my red door
And I want it painted black
Maybe then I'll fade away
And not have to face the facts
It's not easy facing up
When your whole world is black

No more will my green sea
Go turn a deeper blue
I could not foresee
This thing happening to you.
If I look hard enough
Into the setting sun,
My love will laugh with me
Before the morning comes

(Wanna see...??)

U2 Paint It Black Comments
  1. D.... ....

Sorry but don't think any version of paint it black is as good as the rolling stones

  2. G.... ....

Honestly, it isn’t quite as much of a classic as the Rolling Stones, but I really love it.

  3. B.... S....

tihis cover and Judas Priest cover are good but original version is better

  4. J.... O....

In the early 90s i bought a U2 single and this was on the B side and i’ve always loved it. Hard to find before the computer age but thanks to the WW Web it’s at our fingertips. ❤️

  5. l.... F....

I do think this version is not bad........but bono hasnt catch jaggers unique voice, the guitar is great

  6. k.... ....

  7. M.... K....

    CIARA did it best.

  8. M.... P....

    What a load of shit.

  9. C.... E....

U2 cover of this song is pretty great there own take on it... U2 will always rock on tunes....

  10. J.... F....

    this version is very good.

  11. T.... s....

what do you think the meaning of the lyrics to this song is?

  12. R.... ....

Looks like the dislikes are from RS fanboys.

  13. n.... ....

Mindblowing. As The Killers made their Ultraviolet version better than the original, Paint it Black sounds perfect by U2. My fave song covered by them, after This is (Aslan Cover).

  14. k.... a....

    Great cover , one of the best ;;

  15. P.... B....

I like this cover. It is ghostly, kind of haunting, supernatural and depressing. The Stones was great, just angry. Both different, both great.

  16. G.... ....

As I love both versions of this song, 'Paint It Black', both the original release by 'The Rolling Stones', and U2's cover of the track - I cannot comprehend the amount dislike for U2's rendition (although there is still a majority who like U2's recording of 'Paint It Black').
I think it mostly boils down to insecure, ultra competitive fanatics of 'The Rolling Stones' (sprinkled with a few dissatisfied U2 fans), that has unjustly heaped overly harsh criticism on U2's version of 'Paint It Black'.
Ultimately, I think it was wonderful to have a legendary band like U2 cover an immortalized classic track by an equally legendary, generational defining group like 'The Rolling Stones'; obviously one of the greatest rock 'N roll bands ever. I loved the surprise on U2's amazingly brilliant single 'Even Better Than the Real Thing' also included the 'Stones incredible track 'Paint It Black'!
Finally, if people could place their uncompromising radical loyalty aside for once, I think - considering the state of today's crap, so-called 'music' - and appreciate the connection between two revolutionary, last remaining true stars of Rock 'n Roll, U2 & The Rolling Stones.
To be quite openly honest, U2 produced & released a great cover of 'Paint It Black' - and original writers of that song created a gem of a track.
Anyways that is my opinion, and very happy I can immensely enjoy both versions by both bands! ; )

    G.... ....

    Exactamente.

    Magnifique. 👍.

  17. P.... L....

good but listen the eric's burdon version

    P.... L....

Eric Burdon is a God!! ❤️ When i was young . Very underrated artist.

  18. K.... M....

U2 are more of a punk band made good - they have always struggled with covers of classic rock, blues soul etc. They just don't swing and hitt the groove the same way as bands like the Stones do.

I saw them many times in the 80s and can remember them doing C'mon Everybody and Stand By Me - they were really rough edged. Their live version of Gimme Shelter was rubbish. Even Mick's singing couldn't save it.

But in all fairness to them, I think its more a tip of a hat to the original artist than anything else.

  19. K.... ....

    What a Guitar Player!
    What a Night!
    What a Show!
    What a City!
    Zooropa!
    Zoooropa!!
    Aye...Zoooooropaaaa!!!

  20. T.... S....

It proves the Stones rule, this song came out in 1966 and people still love it LOVE IT!!!!!!u2 thank u,the downers your'e out of touch my baby but who gives a s@#$% and it's about death and a funeral, passion not about black the color but emotion,,,, toke on dudes, back to your dorm man Can you break the spell????

  21. J.... F....

U2's unique sound with edge's playing

  22. M.... M....

Why so many dislikes?? I love this version! ♥

  23. T.... A....

this is worst cover by far.

  24. l.... ....

I like it!! and i like Helter Skelter covered too!

  25. L.... G....

As a Rolling Stones fan, I think this is a good version! It's not amazing though

  26. b.... ....

It's more of a clever re-working than a straight-up cover to my ears. I prefer it - but then I am a child of ZOO TV not an old-age pensioner!

    b.... ....

    bennymutant hi

    b.... ....

I think you'd call it a different music arrangement of the song, and regardless of whether you're a child of ZOO TV or an old-age pensioner born in the 60's, this version by U2 is still going
to sound the same to both lol~!

  27. W.... B....

Interesting. I hate when people cover a song and only try to reproduce the original instead of taking the song in a new direction. When U2 covers other artists they actually try to do something original with it and I like that.

    W.... B....

    +AbbeyRoadkill1 Agreed. Totally. Period.

    W.... B....

I think U2 didn't change the song cause this is a classic. You cannot change this song. What you gona do? a folk version? Get real

  28. G.... B....

There's just no way this is better than the Stones version. It's not a bad version and everyone is welcome to their own opinion but the Stones did it much, much better.

  29. n.... ....

Much better than the Stones' version !!! Bono's singing full of style and Edge's backing vocals are great

  30. F.... P....

People dont understand what this is.

  31. M.... M....

I like the way Bono sings it better. The only downfall is that Kieth Richards guitar rhythm wasn't in it but all in all i think i might actually like this version better. Probably because it was originally written in 1966 studio quality isn't as great. But i really love the chorus sections.

  32. R.... ....

maybe they did think that this cover was equally as strong..
or is this the way U2 preferred to hear the song..
    who knows... ;)

  33. B.... R....

I like Edge's solo on this. He doesn't do many of them.

  34. m.... p....

love this version, and have for years.

  35. P.... ....

it is not rison to dislike

  36. R.... ....

I really don't like this cover, i think it is really weak..

But that is my opinion, and i really like the fact they pay tribute to The Stones..

On the other hand, i don't think you should release a cover if you don't think your own version is as strong as the original.. Maybe that's why it's a B-Side

  37. c.... ....

@daiseyd87 & didn't mean to listen to it either daisey

  38. c.... ....

@Mac0Phisto What is wrong with looking gay?

  39. k.... ....

    @artanay Agreed.

  40. K.... O....

@NRaduC Mick Jagger was one of Marianne Faithfull’s many sexual partners. They had a higly publicised romantic relationship.

In her 1994 autobiography, “Faithfull: an autobiography,” she wrote that once during sex with Mick Jagger, he whispered in her ear, “I’d like to be making love to Keith Richards right now.”

  41. K.... O....

Brilliant cover, way WAAAAAY better than the original - which was a pile of gay crap in the first place ;)

  42. a.... ....

why there are so many dislikes :S
i almost thought it's a fake cover, like the one with "the beatles" and mrs. Robinson

  43. d.... ....

crap! didnt mean to click opn this!

  44. b.... ....

Sorry Bono but this is a no go buddy, helter skelter yes but survey said uuh uuuh

  45. h.... ....

    to much auto tune

  46. B.... ....

i wouldn't mind it so much if there was some hint of the original's verse guitar line

  47. J.... A....

bonos voice is strange its in and out of good and bad

  48. a.... ....

Hm not bad its definitly a tribute considering these guys are friends with each other, long live U2 an The Rolling Stones!!!

  49. R.... ....

with all due respect to U2 i don't like this..

  50. S.... ....

I think this one is ok. But I still prefer the original one, of course. But come on people, U2 didn't actually ruin it. They just made a cover becouse they like the original one. I have seen better covers, but some people may like this one, so let them like this.

  51. P.... ....

Eh sorry to know that U2 ruined this song.I still like U2 tho

  52. M.... ....

what the fuck is this shit -.- bad u2 very bad

  53. D.... ....

    This should be banned!

  54. s.... ....

    STOP ARGUING ON THE INTERNET!!!

  55. S.... ....

@TheChoice264 Yeah. Keith Richards said have some coke and smile too ).

  56. k.... s....

listen Paint in Black by The NoMad'Steps !! wonderful acoustique cover ^^

  57. W.... S....

NO, NO,NO! MAKE THE BAD MEN STOP!

  58. S.... ....

I love the stones version and love U2, no harm here, like it!

  59. D.... ....

@thatwalrusguy I didn't intend to imply that Burdon (Animals) wrote HOTRS, only that their version has become an iconic masterpiece, much like Bohemian Rhapsody and various rock classics. I know artists want to express their creativy and interpretation of other works, but some songs simply transcend those bounds, and even well-intended imitations end up simply make me cringe.

  60. G.... C....

@Beermonkey80 U MITE THINK THEY SUCK, BUT ITS THERE WAY OF SAYING THANKS TO SOME OF THE GREATS

  61. j.... ....

@Dayga Wrong, man. Burdon certainly did not write "House of the Rising Sun". It's older than dirt, I'm afraid.

  62. S.... A....

nunca habia escuchado este cover suena genial =) lo subire a mi sitio de videos LOOKEDVIDEOS

  63. D.... ....

@TheChoice264 ya but when U2 butchers a perfectly good song, its a fucking outrage.

  64. s.... ....

@TheChoice264 There is a difference between not liking a cover version and expecting it to be the same as the original - personally I think the song lost it's nerve and feel when u2 covered it but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate why cover songs are made.. BEst cover I ever heard btw is Manic Depression by Hendirx, covered by a punkband called Nomeansno, you should give it a listen if you're into that sort of thing =)

  65. J.... B....

is more like the cure...but this sounds is effeminate.

  66. M.... ....

This is a pretty disappointing cover.

  67. K.... D....

@smartguy9765 Dude like I said - I never said your sad - you have a right and I welcome your opinion - i just think its wrong - which is MY opinion that you seem to think I dont have a right to...

  68. S.... ....

    Was not a good idea.

  69. t.... ....

i think U2 are not able to understand the message of the song...serious, this cover is crap

  70. J.... T....

@KrissernD They should paint it black.

  71. D.... ....

I love U2, but this is a fucking mess. There are certain R&R songs, such as Eric Burdon's "House of the Rising Sun", Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody", etc., that can never be duplicated. Bands that attempt such folly only embarrass themselves.

  72. K.... ....

    @Kaldhore
How does my previous comment make me sad? You're an idiot either way though, so whatever.
And you have already told me all this like three weeks ago. Are you mentally handicapped in some way?

  73. K.... D....

And BTW I never said at all youre sad - i said dont be. If you choose (which you did) to be that person then im sorry.

  74. K.... D....

@smartguy9765 Ha, To be honest I never expected a reply. but you and your *derp* seem to be looking down on me and my opinion. Of course I have a right to it. So im not defered by your arogant slight. I stated my opinion and that is that. What ever you think is yours. Keep your derp with you whereever you go im sure it will keep you loose comfort.

  75. K.... ....

    @Kaldhore
Didn't we already already have this discussion?
And derp summarized all than followed, as well as compliment the incredibly bald ''youre wrong'' statement.
Was there anything else you wanted to talk about?

  76. K.... D....

@smartguy9765 Derp? you have quoted me saying this. And I obviously didnt. A lie. Which puts everything else you say in disripute. Your lie departs you from thinking you know about what you talk about. And also your lack of inteligence saying i directed ANYthing at you is obsurd. Get over yourself. and Learn from human kindness.

  77. E.... V....

    @TheChoice264 Hell yeah jude!!

  78. J.... P....

    they made it too happy

  79. K.... D....

@smartguy9765 Ok I dont know what you saw into what I wrote but it was obviously more than i intended. I meant no harm. You have every right to your opinion and I relish the fact that you do. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Thank the grace for that.

  80. J.... B....

    This sucks ass!!!!

  81. e.... ....

@TheChoice264 Keith Richards probably doesn't care because he gets royalties for this crappy cover and there wasn't much he could do to stop U2 from putting it out in any event. By your logic, I could take a dump, dedicate it to the Rolling Stones, and it's a tribute. That's pretty much what U2 did here.

  82. m.... ....

    fuck you Bono

  83. K.... D....

    @smartguy9765
At no point did I call you sad. I discredited your lackluster *Bad Cover* comment. I thought I was quite neutral and explanatory and did not directly insult you as you did me. I said dont be, not you are. Im probably older than you to be honest but I recognise that a song is good aswell as the original being the best. And by the way you misquoted me too, but others will see that too , so Im thinking im not the one who is an idiot.

  84. K.... ....

    @Kaldhore
    ''No youre wrong, derp''
Is my opinion wrong? Maybe i should have added ''Personally i think this is a bad cover''. But considering these kinds of videos isn't crawling with 12-year-olds i thought it wouldn't be necessary, i guess i was wrong.
And saying i'm ''that sad person who clings on to the past'' for not liking something you do is making you look like an idiot.
Please don't be that one sad person who can't accept other people's opinions.

  85. K.... D....

    @KrissernD
No youre wrong, what it does is bring the lack of colour from that era (liaten to all the other songs from that era - lacking stereo and templates of colour) The stones Original is timeless and essential to music but, covers are the updated accounts of this feeling. The original will be forever heralded as the best but these covers hold something for the new people in this generation. Both are great. Dont be that sad person who clings on to the past.

  86. K.... D....

I love both the original and this cover. People who dont understand the lyrics and the move of the song are the Idiots and quite frankly the dumb fucks who will never realise the meaning of the song. And therefore those people are irrelavant in this thread. That is all.

  87. B.... G....

@TheChoice264 i get that, in most cases, bands do covers as a homage but this sounds more like an insult!! sorry just my opinion. although i dont think Mick n Co will be complainin' about the money generated from said insult.

  88. B.... G....

why oh why did the record company/Stones or whoever owns the rights to this classic song allow this monstrosity to come out. i really dislike U2 but that has nothing to do with why i dislike it, if had been good i'd have commented so. this is just vile.

  89. B.... G....

de los peores covers que he escuchado en mi vida ojala saquen de medio musical a estos nefastos.

  90. A.... M....

    Horrible

  91. t.... ....

    inga tu madre bono

  92. R.... R....

@KrissernD true it should have been more melancholic in a irish way

  93. D.... ....

voy a matar a bono, como se atreve, jajajaja

  94. M.... M....

Is it me or does it seem that people mistake a band doing a cover song from another band as an attempt to "make it better" or "one up" the original? And these people get all bent out of shape and disgusted? Look people, cover songs are done because the band that's covering it loves the song and respects the original artists. It's a tribute more than anything else. Have a coke and a smile. Keith Richards doesnt care...so why the fuck should you? Holla.

  95. P.... S....

    @slimegolem lol

  96. s.... ....

    @ all haters
I grow up with U2 music nobody can be bettah then U2 NEVER!!!!!!!!
i love very single song =D

  97. 5.... ....

They should make it to where if you fuck up a good song by doing a crappy cover you should lose a finger or two. They would teach you to try and fix something that aint broke.

  98. S.... ....

    Atrocious cover, atrocious band.

  99. J.... ....

THIS IS BLASPHEMY one of the worst covers i had ever heard in my life YOU SUCK BONO!

    J.... ....

your comment is blasphhemy lord jesus have mercy on his soul www.euip.org what do you think the meaning of this song is
