U2 - Love Comes Tumbling Lyrics

Love don't need to find a way
You find your own way
I forget that I can't stay
And so I say that
All roads lead to where you are
All roads lead to where you are

The seed is spilled, the bed defiled
For you, a virgin bride
Hide yourself in someone else
Don't find yourself in me

I can't lift you up again
Love comes tumbling down again

Love don't need to find a way
You find your own way
I forget that you can stay
And so I say that
All roads lead to where you are
All roads lead to where you are

U2 Love Comes Tumbling Comments
  1. i.... d....

East Side.... by the bridge... whiteout conditions from the blizzard; but hardly noticed by the man with white spikes hair as he playfully ducks the snowballs thrown his way by the laughing, dark haired woman. They run, half stumbles as he gives chase, her laughter, the crunching footfalls the only sound made. Then he catches her as they both fall together in the huge snowdrift, both roaring in laughter this time, but as they, both covered in snow, look at each other, they suddenly become as silent as the rest of the city....

I am a HUGE fan of U2's b-sides!! I've been enjoying them for many years. In my personal opinion, Larry Mullen, Jr. and Adam Clayton are in the Top 5 of all time when it comes to a rhythm section or bass player and drummer combination of a rock n' roll band. I think they are way underrated or overlooked with their individual talents as well. These guys are rock solid and U2 is still one of my favorite bands of all time. I've been hooked ever since Joshua Tree came out...

  32. G.... R....

This has chanting hypnotic almost shamanic celtic quality makes this a fantastic track to meditate too Which U2s early works is synonymously rich with: October War and Unforgettable fire then they got commercial....

  33. S.... D....

All roads lead to where you are

  34. W.... F....

Larry comes tumbling so strong so much.

  35. P.... T....

Sounds just like the EP. One of my favs by U2.

  36. T.... K....

Love Comes Tumbling, Stay Faraway, So Close, Lemon, Satellite of Love, Salome, early albums... I appreciate those more than their huge stadium/activist hits. I like B-sides and B-movies!

  37. K.... K....

Love come's Tumbling Down . . . . one of the best songs that U2 ever came up with!

  38. W.... S....

This beautiful song always left me breathless. It also reminds me of a time in my life that I'd like to reclaim and honor. It seemed nightmarish at that juncture, but now it would be considered bliss because it raises my dearly departed sister like Lazarus and brings her back to me. We both loved U2, and especially this song, with an unquenchable passion. God, I still love and miss her so deeply. The first time we saw U2 in April 1985 was nothing short of a spiritual epiphany; it was a night I will always remember with bittersweet affinity. They changed my life. Thank you, Dublin denizens. I wish I could relive that wondrous experience with all of you...and my sister by my side.

    W.... S....

Really sorry for your loss. U2 has been the sound track to some of my life and and is still partly a way of life for me. There is an out of world element about some of their music.

My favorite song by U2 (and I'm very thorough with their discog) and one of the best 'atmospheric' songs ever made. It'd have been totally perfect on The Unforgettable Fire.

  46. M.... C....

As a non native English speaker

Is this song about genuine love (mutual love) or love that is not reciprocated?

Maybe it is elusive and this question is left unanswered...

  47. d.... ....

  59. A.... P....

The more I listen, the more the other comments about the bass part here are spot on.

The bass here IS absolutely brilliant. He is up there in Pete Entwistle territory on this one. At once, varying, smooth, seamless, spacious with occasional sharp plucks and higher notes.

  60. /.... ....

    great !!1

  61. M.... R....

this song was one and only track played on my first date with my today's husband. played over and over again that night on 31st December 1999, played again on our wedding in 2015 and now, while we're laying down with our daughter in 2017. We are 34 if you wonder. high school love, thanks to U2.

maybe bit cheese, but U2 will always be there for us

    xx

  62. M.... W....

TJT B-sides and the Wide Awake in America new songs make an excellent in between piece between UF and TJT....some of my favorite atmospheric work of the lads....thanks for posting

  63. A.... P....

The Edge dials it back and softens it wonderfully here to give it a chime-like effect and the bassist responds with pulsating, muscular accents.

  64. F.... d....

Amazing song. Makes me dreamy, feeling nostalgic...

  65. s.... ....

Is the 3rd version on the Australian single ir Austrian? Do you have the catalog number on the back of the CD you can provide? Thanks

  66. F.... F....

I LIVE TO DA MAXXX!!! TANX KITTY!!!

  67. F.... M....

U2 made great headway taking advantage of the Eno and Lanois partnership. Even now 33 years later those sessions of the "The Unforgettable Fire" sounds unique and massively fabulous.

  68. S.... ....

    i love u2's 80s b-sides.

  69. S.... D....

lovely song, and a lovely drummer boy

  70. s.... g....

    w.... ....

    wolly1979 yes!

  77. T.... B....

This should have been on the album instead of the crappy Elvis Presley and America. It was recorded for The Unforgettable Fire album. Dumb asses!

    T.... B....

blame brian eno, tony visconti and daniel lanois and paul mcguiness

    T.... B....

Agreed, I will go further and say "The three sunrises" should have been on the Album instead of "MLK" or "4th of "July"...

    T.... B....

bono was probably worrid the lyrics were too egotistical and people would misinterpret them in a bad way

  78. a.... n....

    Shine like a fading sky
She holds one love, the sky

It's no secret that the stars
    Are falling from the sky
It's no secret that I left you
And still I don't know why

You say the sun is sometimes
    Eclipsed by a moon
You know I'd come back, baby
If you gave me some room

It's no secret that a friend
Is someone who lets you help
It's no secret that a liar
    Won't believe anyone else

They say a secret is something
    You tell one other person
    What do you think
    Child

Love, shine like a fading sky
She holds one love, the sky

A man will beg, a man will crawl
    But it's never too late
    To take his call
    It's no secret at all

It's no secret that a conscience can sometimes be a pest
It's no secret ambition bites the nails of success
Every artist is a cannibal, every poet is a thief
And everyone needs music 'cause everyone needs relief

Love, live like a shining star
She calls, the sun will burn

A man will rise, a man will fall
From the sheer face of love
Like a fly from a wall
    It's no secret at all

Love, you shine like a burning star
You're falling from the sky, tonight

Love, you shine like a burning star
    You're falling from the sky

A man will rise, a man will fall
Tonight, from the sheer face of love
Like a fly from a wall
    It's no secret at all

It's no secret that the stars are falling from the sky
The universe exploded 'cause one man told a lie
Look, I gotta go, yeah I'm running outta change
There's a lot of things, if I could I'd rearrange

Love, shine like a fading sky
She holds one love, the sky

I saw a spooky video for this song many years ago....near the end of the song, Bono is rowing a small boat across a still, misty lake. The he reaches over the side to something floating in the water, and pulls up a white bridal veil. As the song fades away, and the camera pulls back to show his boat is surrounded by dozens of veils floating in the water around him, as if many brides had drowned there. Does anyone else remember this ?

  96. M.... ....

This song reminds me of one thing. Landing in Scottsdale, AZ by myself for a business conference. Grabbing my bags and heading for a taxi...that taxi ride from the airport to the hotel.  Driving through the desert at 5pm, sun slightly going down but still blazing in your eyes causing that unique Southwest desert red sky. Sitting in the back passenger seat, open hand on the jaw just staring out that window into nothing and everything all at the same time.  Thinking about the past and present, thinking about what it must have been like recording this in the studio, all the desert plains U2 have seen in their lives, all the ones I might see in mine.  My family, what they are doing back home.  By what magic did I land at this exact time to see our beautiful sun setting?  A million and one other things...this is the best U2 song of all time, I will never ever tire of listening to it.  Talk about being transported to somewhere else!

good advice...except that was 20 years ago and she got married and has two teenage kids, and I moved on long ago. Still can reminisce about lost "love."

Trust me... this old broken heart healed long ago! :)

    M.... ....

I agree with your vision of this hauntingly beautiful song. What is it with U2 and this period of their music and the desert? It is magical and mystifying. I hear this song and am transported to the desert and all the themes Maideneer speaks of are awash in my head and heart...
