U2 - Last Night On Earth Lyrics

She feels the ground is giving way
Bur she thinks we're better off that way
The more you take the less you feel
The less you know the more you believe
The more you have the more it takes today"

YOU GOT TO GIVE IT AWAY
YOU GOT TO GIVE IT AWAY
YOU GOT TO GIVE IT AWAY
SHE DOESN'T CARE WHAT IT'S WORTH
SHE'S LIVING LIKE IT'S THE LAST NIGHT ON EARTH

She's not waiting on a saviour to come
She's at a bus-stop with the NEWS OF THE WORLD
And the sun sun here it comes
She's not waiting for anyone

YOU GOT TO GIVE IT AWAY
YOU GOT TO GIVE IT AWAY
YOU GOT TO GIVE IT AWAY
she knows just what it's worth
SHE'S LIVING LIKE IT'S THE LAST NIGHT ON EARTH

Slipping away... slip slide...
(The clock tells her that time is slipping... )
The world turns and we get dizzy
(Minute hands and second sticking... )
Slipping away
(There's something going on she might be missing
the world turns and we get dizzy
Is it spinning for you the way it's spinning for me)

She's living living next week now
You know she's going to pay it back somehow
The future is here at last
The past is too uncomfortable

YOU GOT TO GIVE IT AWAY
YOU GOT TO GIVE IT AWAY
YOU GOT TO GIVE IT AWAY
SHE ALREADY KNOWS IT HURTS
SHE'S LIVING LIKE IT'S THE LAST NIGHT ON EARTH
LAST NIGHT ON EARTH
LAST NIGHT ON EARTH

U2 Last Night On Earth Comments
  1. B.... M....

U2 Last night on Earth is one of my favorite song from the album Pop!

  2. F.... F....

Este es un gran disco de U2 .. Los traeria por primera vez Argentina (1998) en su gira Pop mart. :)

  3. E.... G....

The last great album of U2. They should be have been This way forever

  4. J.... O....

Even U2 view this as being their worst album, it didn't connect with the fans and when they came back with the 'ATYCLB' album in 2000 they had to try and win back many of the fans they had lost. Larry Mullen said in 2000: "I'm under no illusion about the amount of ground we've got to make up." Bono said in 2000: "we're reapplying for the job of the best band in the world" - he realised things had not connected property with the fans with this album and that many fans viewed them as below-par. The only project the band did that a band member liked less than this album was the 'Passengers' album in 1993, the 5-piece band created by U2 and their producer Brian Eno. Three of U2 liked it but Larry hated it.

"Before we started writing the next record," pictured the Red Rocker, "I was hoping the brothers would understand my desire to shake things up musically. I was hoping Alex would hear something in the sound of dance music that I don't understand. I really tried to get him interested in the direction I was wanting to take. Imagine Eddie's playing guitar to this great new beat, and I'm singing lyrics that aren't corny. The position I was coming from was this. "Edward, you are one of the greatest rock and roll musicians ever from the beginning of time. I want to be that good of a lyricist. You and I together will write the greatest rock and roll songs ever. "I'm telling you, we would have accomplished something extraordinary. Believe it or not, U2 ended up doing the exact same thing I wanted to do on their 1997 album. If all this shit hadn't gone down between us, we would have beaten them to the punch It really was unfortunate.

Their talent died after this album. U2 is unrecognizable now. I guess now I understand old people who talk about how great The Doors were and stuff.

  8. D.... F....

Am I the only one who thinks this U2 song, minus the synths and the more melodic elements, has got some grunge leanings on it ?

  9. T.... D....

U2's flawed masterpiece. Terrible album cover, rushed to market unfinished, Please, Gone, Wake Up Dead Man just don't work on the record and aren't all that strong although Please has a great lyric. Mofo and Do you feel Loved cancel each other out at the start being songs 2. and 3. Should have listened to Adam Clayton and given it another 6 months. But Discoteque, Mofo, God will send his angels, Staring at the Sun, Last Night On Earth, Playboy Mansion, Miami and Velvet Dress are eight great tracks that work together and that's good enough for me. Actually, Staring at the sun doesn't work with the other tracks, but it's just so strong!!!

  10. R.... M....

    A. Place in time nothing but best

  11. J.... H....

POP has some great songs, I think it just got buried and misunderstood in the late 90's, they rushed the album out and didn't give people time to really digest it before touring, great song

  12. E.... Q....

    YOU GOTTA GIVE IT AWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!

  13. D.... M....

    Great album...some tracks are crap....

  14. L.... H....

My favorite U2 album, whatever that's worth.

  15. D.... R....

I love this song. Pop is so underrated, it's almost criminal. For me, "Pop" is one of U2's very best albums. I'll go even further and say that "Pop" was their last truly innovative album where U2 really pushed their musical boundries. This album is solid with many great songs, on par with "War", "The Joshua Tree, and "Achtung Baby".

  16. A.... B....

This song is iconic. It's got a killer groove and Bono's singing his guts out. And the Edge that rockin guitar. Who would dislike this? Complaining about U2 sounding like shit. Now people are bitching and moaning that U2 sounds repetitive. Shut the hell up. Dig the beat and get over it.

Thank you so much for typing the lyrics. It was very nice of you. I appreciate it.

    P.... H....

    Gracias is nice nice

  19. N.... M....

    Miglior album degli U2

  20. M.... E....

You make me laugh with idiotic comments as if song or album are severely underrated not appreciated enough.. try to understand that u2 pop or zooropa or achtung baby are music not for the masses, average people i mean, they are for the people whose mind is not common and they are for the people with wondering mind and there are not many of them out there, therefore it can’t be liked as much as “beutiful day” ( good really good pop) hence that’s why it was less appreciated worldwide. And it’s not a bad thing it’s good, it’s reality we are all different😉

  21. P.... Y....

Can't help but wonder,if they had stayed on the trajectory of ab,z,and pop, what treasures we would be commenting about?

    P.... Y....

    @YazmanianDevil it's really awesome live!,and zooropa,and electrical storm also

    P.... Y....

@Paul Young Electrical Storm is gorgeous!

    P.... Y....

@YazmanianDevil live versions of"please","gone"are soul ripping

    P.... Y....

@Paul Young They really are. But "live is where they live". So if a track is crazy on the album, it will be off the chain and in need of a leash live!!!!

    P.... Y....

@YazmanianDevil couldn't argue that at all,I'm 56 and have been listening from the beginning, and I love how live versions have grown and expanded, BTW I'm from the south,so I'm r and b,blues, alternative rock,my favorite songs on pop are do you feel loved, discotheque, gone,in that order

  22. Y.... ....

One of their best albums IMO

    Y.... ....

    Totally agree

  23. L.... H....

    Honestly, maybe their best album.

  24. G.... c....

I decided to give a listen afte probably 20 years.. I remember how this album was considered a scandal.. u2 cheating music... But probably this was the last album from a "living" band.. after this they stopped experimenting and went on doing "normal" U2 music, a little like the Stones..Both have released good albums in the last 20 years (Stones better... U2 only good singles probably) but they stopped tryng to find new directions.

  25. R.... N....

    top shelf

  26. D.... E....

biggest underrated album ever how dare u2 try something different

  27. L.... 0....

    I love Pop

  28. P.... L....

This album is pretty good. At least half of it anyway. I think the problem with it is that it's too radical compared to other U2 albums. It's insanely slow and mellow in some areas, THEN wildly experimental on others. It's a strange mix of songs. I don't like listening to the Pop album from start to finish. But I do very much like listening to the individual interesting songs on it from time to time.

    P.... L....

my favourite u2 album but your right it runs out of steam half way through after this song

    P.... L....

@DR Evil The second half is better than the first half; 'Please' and 'Wake Up Dead Man' are superb.

    P.... L....

@Nick Kabbabe the whole album is great its just that it was marketed as a pop album so people were expecting just that.this is the album that made me a fan of them i wasnt really interested with them before that and i remember when their first album was out so i speak with some authority

  29. R.... ....

    Perfect driving song

  30. a.... ....

Pop is a criminally underrated U2 album.

    a.... ....

@Paul Young I believe it to be I knew it then, I knew it now.

    a.... ....

    I wholeheartedly concur.

    a.... ....

fuck yeah! at least 5 of the songs in this album is classics, real gems

    a.... ....

It's an astonishing piece of work; absolutely brilliant. Pop is in my 5 favourite U2 albums and part of reason why I think their 90's work is their best.

    a.... ....

@acouniha I couldn't agree with you more U2 Album Pop is a criminally underrated album!

  31. h.... i....

    I like Pop

  32. l.... o....

20 years ago this week, came out the last great u2 album in 1997 i remember that year was wonderfull.

    l.... o....

I was there.. holy shit its been 20 years

    l.... o....

    Yeah, underrated for them

  33. C.... V....

i dont know why people say this is U2s worst album ever,
    its one of the best
maybe it came out at the wrong time
    but bad is not.

    C.... V....

this is the song i like most of U2

    C.... V....

Chayatano Valdesatano it was a bit rushed as they booked arenas for the popmart tour before finishing the album

    C.... V....

    Worst is The Joshua Tree.

    C.... V....

Most of these songs sound brilliant live, not so good here.

    C.... V....
