Really, this song could apply to any idol: money, power, sex, education, love, happiness, friends, family, your own life. To follow Christ, you have to pick up that heavy cross and leave the rest behind. Not saying there is anything wrong with family, friends, and such, but Christ said you basically have to hate everything else to follow him. Anytime I find myself getting complacent, happy with a comfy life, I remember this. Life isn't about education, or your job, or your family, or church, or yourself. You truly need to let a part of yourself, the me-centered part, die to follow Christ. And I am as guilty as the next Christian of getting to comfy.
Brothers and sisters, take a look where complacency has lead our nation. We must remembered how high we were called, and pursue that. Nothing else matters.

But God can only help you if you except him and the gift of eternal life that he has given us through the sacrifice of his son Jesus Christ. Yes the world is a messed up place but only because -WE- made it that way. We turned from God. And now we must turn back to him if we are going to be saved. It's not too late.
