Tribe Called Quest, A Mr. Incognito Comments
  1. V.... L....

The first bootlegs of this song back in 1993 the pace were a lot more sped up.
On this 2003 release it sounds to slow.

  2. C.... 0....

Underrated. Definitely does not have the attention it deserves.

    C.... 0....

Because it was UNRELEASED, if it had been released at the time it was made and put on their album. It would have got the attention it deserves. This is a STANDARD QUALITY with all their other songs from this time.

  3. R.... P....

Easy like a morning, Commodore Sunday.

  4. S.... K....

I’m born in the wrong decade 😕

  5. J.... G....

I always listen to this when I'm looking for what porn to watch...

  6. D.... E....

This should've been on the Low End Theory.

    D.... E....

    You mean MIDNIGHT MARAUDERS

    D.... E....

@Viv Lara Nope he's right. Tip himself said that this track (along with Excursions) was the first track he produced for Low End Theory....this track actually has the same drum break as Excursions...

    D.... E....

I know it has the same drum break. SO WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?
Chi Ali (Q TIP REMIX) ROAD RUNNER from 1992 and PHONY RAPPERS from 1996 have the same drum break. Just because 2 songs have the same drums doesn’t mean they were recorded at the same time.
But if you say Q tip said it was one of the first songs he made for LOW END THEORY, then it is was it is. I just remember this first saw the light of day as a bootleg and Radio DJ’s didn’t start playing this before 1994.
Either which way it’s VINTAGE A TRIBE CALLED QUEST. Just makes you realise what kind of brilliant unreleased material they have from that Low End Theory/ Midnight Marauders era.
Even Skeff Anslem has said in interviews that there’s so many good songs unreleased by them. Hopefully one day Q tip will let the world 🌎 here them.
Have you ever heard the original version of ‘Check the Rhyme’ over the same sample as EPMD UNDERGROUND and Black MOON HOW MANY MC’S.

    D.... E....

@Viv Lara It doesn't mean anything! Lol. I'm just telling you what Q-Tip said in his RBMA interview...he was trying to convince the interviewer that he made this track around the same time as Excursions, and he pointed out that the drum break was the same. Heres the link to the interview https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8RWctL6Pk6A&t=2292s he talks about at the 37:23 mark...no I haven't heard that version of Check The Rhime, but im going to look for it! ...I read an interview that he did with Spin back in 2008, he said he made 500 tracks between Amplified and The Renaissance...300 of those tracks are instrumentals! Tip is a true perfectionist/genius!

    D.... E....

Will B. Smooth - formerly KardiFan2000 I know, I’ve seen your comments before, you seem to be one ☝️ of the very few who truly gets this UMMAH thing. I’m a huge Jay Dee fan too. But these Dick Riding Dilla fan, who have jumped on his bandwagon since his sadly untimely death are just EMBARRASSING and CRINGEWORTHY. They haven’t got a clue what he produced from what Q tip produced.

  7. C.... ....

is this produced by the Tribe or The Ummah?

    C.... ....

Track done in 91’? They must have held it cuz it says it was released in 03’ though.

    C.... ....

This was an unreleased white label which surfaced around Midnight Marauders era 93.
I don’t know how true this is but can remember hearing 👂 this on the radio 📻 back in 93 and the DJ saying that this was left off Midnight Marauders because Q TIP didn’t think this was strong enough for the album. Only he knows the truth, it could have been due to sample clearances.
But then was finally officially released in 2003 on the
    Hits, Rarities and Remixes album.

    C.... ....

I add MR.INCOGNITO and OH MY GOD REMIX to my Midnight Marauders and it fits in the album perfectly.

    C.... ....

    Q-Tip, circa 1991.

    C.... ....

@Crediblesea 007 I was told at the time that this was given out to a select few people on a cassette that was part of the promotion for Low End Theory. Someone bootlegged it a couple years later.

  8. d.... ....

That whistle sound reminds me of a sound from the original Zelda.

  9. r.... a....

this is dop and I now this song dice I was three

  10. s.... 1....

Underrated, I know I sometimes like Guru more but Qtip is still the shit. Any Tribe song is good.

  11. G.... H....

Does anyone know the sample used around the 55 sec mark? Its definitely not Buster Williams.

    G.... H....

The Soil I Tilled for You by The Shades of Brown

  12. t.... *....

mr incognito is the most dangerous persona in this world

  13. S.... 7....

Ali on the hook makes all the difference - really feels like all three of them are on the song instead of him being purely behind the scenes.

  14. D.... B....

    hell yeah.

  15. C.... P....
