It is a weapon of a Hindu God Shiva. The trident represents the trinity of forces in creation, namely : sattva, rajas and tamas.
Sattva stands for purity and love. Rajas stands for passion and engagement. Tamas stands for hatred, sloth, envy, etc.
Lord Shiva is beyond these three and since, He is the creator of the universe himself, he commands all three.
