Some gifts are beyond, believe, horror, terror bliss, love hiding within everything in fact; I MISS YOU FATHER! I KNOW WHY YOU DID IT! Fully and completely.

Absolutely great from the mighty Hip
Had this album on today and every song an absolute treat
Wonderful indeed
... 2:25 ...And behold, the king of the people who are in the land of Zarahemla is the man that is commanded to do these things, and who has this high gift from God.
Love seeing this song live and watching the crowd as everyone, and I do mean EVERYONE, waits for the pace change with "the pendulum swings".
Yes! My fav part!
Gord, if you make a miraculous turn (I hope!), they should make you Poet Laureate of Canada. One of the finest wordsmiths of a generation. Empirically Canadian through and through.
Great lyrics
A tone that ties together an era. With lyrics that run deeper than any one of us.
...and after a glimpse over the top, the rest of the world becomes a gift shop.
Listen and watch?, might have a little something to do with the falls???(Niagara)
hopefully seeing them next year in Cleveland 1/16 then in Buffalo in April!
The Hip are so relevant to their artistry-music.
so true Shawn...love them...always have - so talented ..
canadians have good beer, good health care, and most of all , we have the tragically hip.
Je dirais plus tôt parmi les meilleurs.
@jasong4111 I know what your saying but. Have you heard The Weber Brothers yet? They are a mix band American guys and Peterborough On Canadian guys. They are the shit as well.Under the Radar too.
Fuck Yeah I've been to Rawhide !!!! the Hip rules.
One of my top 5 fave songs of all time for sure . . . sends me back to my care free high school days (which I didn't realize were that care free at the time!) and also takes me back to the summer of 1996 :-)
@crossxca Yeah, why don't they just plug their guitars into that rock.....*rolls eyes*
This was the first song on the radio that I remeber hearing. I was 10 years old. I fell in love and continue to love the artistry, composition and soul that is part of each and every one of their songs.
They r certainly icons to most Canadians!
long live nomeansno, D.O.A. and many others!
Trouble at the hen house was the first album by TTH I ever owned. I worked my ass off mowing lawns to buy it. It took forever to find it because in upstate NY towns are so far from each other and I had to search five towns until I found a record store that sold this CD! I used to listen to them and other awesome Canadian bands on 106.9 FM (THE BEAR) out of Ottawa. I've turned all my friends on to Canadian music since I moved back to MI a decade ago. I LOVE CANADIAN MUSIC!
So looking forward to seeing the boys in Abbotsford, BC Canada on August 8th - WOOO HOOOOO!!!!
GORD IS GOD
i think its better that way, they wont get carried away with money. they'll stay more true ^^
This was the song that sold me on them. I have seen them five times now and never been disapointed.
It was just Gord dressed up as the Mountie anyway
REAL MUSIC!
i wish ;)
i'm not argueing
i'm merely waiting for scott to come off his meth binge
and say something worthwhile
it might be a looong wait...
you're both fucking idiots for arguing through the comment section of a video.
get some fucking lives
you are still incoherent
you haven't answered my question
you have not made any point
you are, as the kids say, random
and dull
dull is inexcusible
do you know what a killfile is?
you are about to welcomed to one...
i have no idea what you are talking about
have another spliff and go away
what, exactly, do you find so offensive that you must label me an "idiot"?
if you must know, I stole "Hello America"
from the title of J.G. Ballard's book, which i recently re-read
i'm not going to scroll back to read my comment, but i'm sure you are reading too much into what is a standard-pithy observation about Can-Am relations
(of which i'm sure you're an expert:)
I agree with the theory of Earth looks like a gift shop from space. And if you think about it, the Earth is really fragile, like all the gifts you could buy at a gift shop.
To me its about feeling small in an incomprehensibly massive world. I think the high up above lyric refers to what the astronauts said when they saw the earth from space. Something so huge seemed like a gift shop to them from that perspective, or maybe I'm just reading too much into Gords lyrics...
that makes no sense....
ok thanks
it is about the arrow...and the tomahawk...and the javelin...and the tipi...and at the fire after, in the evening, in the silence
what is this song about anny ways ??????
i honstly cant figure it out the only thing i can think of is the avro arrow
umm...this song is THE answer to the eternally asked question:
What does it mean to be Canadian?
the rest of the world really really really should take a close look at us, just as we have taken a close look at the rest of the world ( hello, America! )
Actually, not quite so grandiose. Gord was quoted as saying he wrote this sonf the first time he saw an Iceberg of the coast of Newfoundland....
Probably The Hip's finest piece of work.
Being from Kingston, these guys are locked in my soul... saw them open for the Rolling Stones in Moncton, NB. Best concert I've ever seen.
Hip, you guys are just awesome. I love listening to your music and lyrics and they always get my juices flowing. Your live shows are exactly what live shows are supposed to be, you guys trying to please the crowds that are there to watch you and support you. I wish all bands played your live shows like you guys...then nobody would have to worry about record sales because everyone would go to concerts. You guys are the best, keep it up! Love your music.
omg.. i nearly creamed my pants. this is amazing.
