  7. J.... J....

    We miss you Gord

  8. J.... C....

this prooved that if the Leafs ever won the cup again, you just have to make the game winning goal scorer to go MIA in a plane trip to jinx them for another 10 years

  9. K.... ....

As a Canadian I absolutely love to see the comments about how the rest of the world love the Hip, they were such a fantastic band that trancended Canadian culture and made their waves througout the world, but to truly understand them and this song, the eerie vibe and those long drives or areas we have been as Candians that emulate this or just isolation in general is only something you can really vibe with if you have lived in this amazing country!

I'm also super stoned, but RIP to Gord and his wife, amazing humans.

  10. A.... B....

They say - Why do you write so many songs that are indigenous to the area from which you come ? Maybe that's because where we're from !

  11. H.... M....

LOVE THE TRAGICALLY HIP    RIP GORD DOWNIE

  12. r.... t....

  13. C.... S....

  14. W.... D....

REST IN FUCKING PEACE GORD DOWNIE

  15. o.... ....

Highway 99, just south of Richmond, BC. Driving back to the United States (my home) after a few weeks in Vancouver. This song comes on the radio, and I was just floored. It just...made sense. It clicked with where I was - the people I'd been with, and the subtle differences in culture that I'd been savouring (and no, Chrome, I did not spell that wrong.) I pulled over when I got US cell service back and furiously Googled the lyrics...and that's how I found The Hip. Wish I could have gotten to see Gord play live - but that's the cool thing about making music. We must all return these borrowed molecules at some point - but music can live on

    o.... ....

I know that EXACT stretch of highway and yeah, great story and place to hear the song.

  16. G.... P....

    I worked it in

  17. s.... c....

Game 7 lets go leafs come on gordy give us a push 🙌

    Fifty-Mission Cap

    The Tragically Hip

    Bill Barilko disappeared that summer
He was on a fishing trip
The last goal he ever scored
    Won the Leafs the cup
They didn't win another till nineteen sixty two
    The year he was discovered
I stole this from a hockey card
    I keeped tucked up under

    My fifty mission cap
    I worked it in
I worked it in to look like that
    It's my fifty mission cap
    It's his fifty mission cap
    And I worked it in
    I worked it in
And I worked it in to look like that
And I worked it in to look like that

Bill Barilko disappeared that summer (in nineteen fifty one)
He was on a fishing trip (in a plane)
The last goal he ever scored (in over time)
    Won the Leafs the cup
They didn't win another till nineteen sixty two
    The year he was discovered

    In my fifty mission cap
    I worked it in
I worked it in to look like that
    It's my fifty mission cap
    It's his fifty mission cap
    And I worked it in
    I worked it in
And I worked it in to look like that
And I worked it in to look like that

    It's my fifty mission cap
    It's my fifty mission cap
    It's my fifty mission cap
    It's my fifty mission cap

Songwriters: Gordon Downie / Gordon Sinclair / Johnny Fay / Paul Langlois / Robert Baker

    🏒Go Leafs Go!🏒😁🍻

    P.... C....

    I hate them fooking bruins.😒

  19. w.... ....

This album art was probably my first titty pic ever ,

  20. i.... ....

    Still rocking in 2019

    i.... ....

    You know it

    i.... ....

    2020 & beyond! Timeless.....

  21. G.... H....

My friends and I, in the car before the hockey game, with this song cranked, passing the bottle.

  22. A.... F....

Can we just make this the national anthem and get rid of this " in all of us command" horsepoo?

  23. C.... H....

I'm only seventeen and I love there stuff and hate my generations taste in music but im also a metal head and like 90s and 2000s alternative rock music

  24. S.... O....

I was in a bar in Bellingham, Washington, USA and it seemed everyone knew and loved the Hip. I suspect this may be the case for a lot of the northern U.S.

    S.... O....

I grew up in Port Angeles. The only radio stations we got were Canadian, and so for most of my childhood I thought The Tragically Hip must have been huge in the USA.

    S.... O....

i used to party in Fairhaven, Bellingham is one of the most Canadian cities in the USA. and you know what, we as Canadians love it. We are one, music is the universal language that defies nation, colour, language, whatever......

  25. t.... ....

i love you & miss you like a crazy woman gord. you have made Canada a darker place since you left us. rest in peace my brother till we see each other again.

  26. J.... G....

All I had to do was type in 5 in the search bar and this song came up

  27. D.... K....

the last goal he ever scored won the leafs the cup ?

    D.... K....

Yep. Just like it said on the card.

  28. J.... H....

2nd coming of the band! Iconic songs and concerts, another roadside attraction was off the hook!

  29. B.... E....

This connects to Bill Barilko's goal that won the Toronto Maple Leafs the Stanley Cup in 1951. His disappearance was in a plane crash. Leafs won it again eleven years after.

  30. S.... L....

I Love & Live The Hip

  31. P.... G....

    Masterpiece Music!

    P.... G....

    fook you man bear pig

  32. M.... w....

I heard this song probably at 330 am working North of Fort Mac decided that I am done and got out alive .......

  33. p.... k....

    Most under rated band EVER!

  34. v.... ....

Gord had a fifty-three mission cap. Much too short, but goddamn what a mission he had! Love you forever Gord.

    v.... ....

Mission Accomplished every album, every epic performance!! He was the TOP GUN of gifted artists.

  35. m.... b....

There was a saying in the USAAF in WWII 'Soft cap bastard'. Iirc it pertained to.airforce pilots who had endured a great deal, lived for today when not on duty, & held contempt for the bureaucratic minutaie & the USAAF staff officers. The characters in the book & film Catch 22 come to mind. Then we had our own version of such pilots like George Beurling. RIP.

  36. m.... b....

I thought of this song when I learned of Canada's first two fatal casualties of WWII. MIA from 14 September 1939 to 10 July 1958. Very little remains found at the crashsite in Central New Brunswick.

  37. K.... S....

The first twenty seconds sounds like Breaking The Chains by Dokken.

  38. R.... M....

cheers from buffalo whatever those canuckleheads say.... more popular here than cn.

  39. F.... N....

    The Canadian National Anthem

  40. M.... N....

I bought this CD in 92 I think from a review and article in car stereo review. Memory says it was the late Bill Wolfe and another writer I can't recall the name but they recommended the pixies, nin, smashing pumpkins the singles soundtrack anyways the 21 22 yr old me didn't read much into the Canada thing cuz at the time they were still yet to be as big as this album made them.
hey I'm in Arizona 20 miles from. Mexico but I wore a groove in that disc and read and re-read Gordon Downeys lyrics and Paul's guitar and Synclair and Longlauis and fuck I know I misspelled I'm ok with that but I hope I didn't miss a member if so I apologize anyways the album moved me didn't go right through me I went back and got their first one then road apples long story short after phantom power a much older and different me stopped listening to music about the time in my opinion music from then on sucked.
From the beginning the Canadian history and identity was recognized and granted we play baseball here and still chose my fiftieth mission cap to hum in my head and out loud while pitching pr professionally in the short stint in the Mexican leagues.
had my trucks stereo cranked right before I was an out to stand a 26ft wall by myself as a young framer in the prime of his life and had helping me a 16th century conquistador I think.
many times the lyrics had me doing research on nautical disasters just to see a picture having in my soul the sounds of fingernails scratching on my hull..
Yep best one was having a girl one night over and over playing lionized. I'd look at her and she had that 1000 yard st are her lips in tempo eith the lyrics and fell in love a little. she would sing out loud the part about billboard breast they don't have a face.. I never got that particular lyric she did and I know well she didn't know what lionized meant. but I did.
I cried when I read Gord had passed at 45 I run multimillion dollar construction projects. happened to Google the hip in 16 and read about his terminal diagnosis and I cried then months of life later was 3 months after he had passed and that cry was because I wanted to go to his funeral but new I wouldn't have been able to.
Yep The Tragically Hip are yours tragically for Americans they won't know them like I do.
The sound my god what beautiful sound they produce truly if a time machine pportunity right now was at hand the one place I would go to is one of their live shows when this album came out.
sorry for the length just wanted to share my love for their music up to phant on power never listed after that I changed so did they.
up to here thats the name of the first fuck glad I remembered it woulda bugged me lol.
    regards
    MN

    M.... N....

    REPLY

  58. J.... M....

I don't know whats worse, this song or the Maple Leafs. This band stinks

    J.... M....

I think you may just be one of the most autistic commenters ive seen in a while.

    J.... M....

Now is also not the best time to be posting your retarded opinion considering the fact that the lead singer died 3 days ago to brain cancer

    J.... M....

Times are changing in Leaf Land. Babcock Dubas Mathews Marner Nylander Freddy Kadri Kapenen Johnsson Dermott Reilly....

  59. H.... H....

The Tragically Hip was the first concert I ever went to when I was 15. RIP Gord.

  60. D.... R....

    R.I.P. Gord

  61. D.... R....

Definitely the best classic NHL song (often misunderstood) from my father`s youth. My dad played with Horton but never actually made it. This song is not about Horton but I envision those heady times of victory for the Leafs and the grandiose dreams of a young, late father. May he rest in peace and his mind rest from all the dreams about being a pro. What I have learnt from Downie is that one does NOT have to define himself from the national game. Just accept being alive. Rest in peace Downie and true condolences from the south Pacific.

  62. S.... ....

RIP Gord, you're a legend and your music will live on forever.

  63. g.... s....

    RIP Gord.

  64. B.... H....

my dad made 38 missions in a Lancaster bomber, his first mission was D-Day, the signifagance of any number of missions is you had a 50/50 chance of not coming back.

    B.... H....

No its actually about the look of the hat after 50 missions. From Alan Cross

"Many people have figured out that he is referring to uniform caps worn by airmen flying bombing missions during WW2. The leather cap was stiff when it was first issued but took on a unique look after about 50 bombing missions. A worked in cap was a sign of experience and status.

This worn look became something that junior airmen started to do intentionally. They “worked it in to look like that.”"

    99.3 the fox rocks

  71. C.... W....

luv you gordie~forever and always man

  72. T.... E....

Pretty sure a fifty mission cap means like, if you had fifty missions your cap got really dirty (for war pilots), but some guys would work it in to make it look like you had been on fifty missions, at least thats what my dad told me

    T.... E....

The Emerald Beast Yep, like the newby infantry coming in-country to Vietnam and scuffing up their boots.

    T.... E....

no they capped you at fifty missions

  73. F.... A....

    Love this song.

  74. D.... ....

    Bill Barilko disappeared that summer,
He was on a fishing trip.
The last goal he ever scored
    Won the Leafs the cup
They didn't win another until 1962,
    The year he was discovered.
I stole this from a hockey card,
    I keep tucked up under
My fifty mission cap, I worked it in
    To look like that
Bill Barilko disappeared that summer, (in 1950)
He was on a fishing trip.(in a plane)
The last goal he ever scored (in overtime)
    Won the Leafs the cup
They didn't win another until 1962,
    The year he was discovered.
I stole this from a hockey card,
    I keep tucked up under
My fifty mission cap, I worked it in
    To look like that :P

  75. L.... B....

    Remarkable music.
    Just listen.....

  76. M.... S....

Why can't this be the leafs goal song Gord Downie maybe a Bruins fan but this is a leafs song

  77. K.... ....

Even though I'm not a Leafs (or hockey) fan, this song is still great!

  78. S.... J....

Folks in the USA do get it. A young athlete in his prime who God took from our world before his time. (Think Roberto Clemente) Fans of Tragically Hip understand this song regardless of location. A 50 mission cap could also mean your grandfather who flew missions during WW2. This song transcends geographic boundaries.

  79. K.... ....

    *disappeared

    Get an education.

  80. J.... S....

A cap must be placed in an opening proving to cause chaos because of a freedom of choice of preference while order must be the priority for those who direct.

  81. S.... D....

Met these guys in Austin, TX 1995, At the Hundredth Meridian is one of my favorites, but tonight I was sent on a Mission to hear this song from a trailer that TSN is doing. Spent about 6 weeks in Kingston with the Canadian Forces. Saw a couple Frontenac games at the K-Rock on Tragically Hip Lane. Had a great time but wished I could have met the boys one last time in their hometown...and Grapes. Get well Gord! We know you're Canadian, but a few Americans get you too.

  82. C.... A....

Love the Hip... love this song!!!

  83. T.... S....

The last goal he ever scored......

    T.... S....

they didn't win another till 1962...

    T.... S....

    Canucks have never won

    T.... S....

    the year, he was discovered

    T.... S....

zolanprime i stole this from a hockey card

    T.... S....

1962 discovered in Amsterdam............Love The Hip!!!!

  84. Q.... ....

    Daft Punk

  85. L.... B....

I had a friend once, long ago; he is long gone now, who would have just LOVED this.
We kind of shared a thought process.
He couldn't hide anything from me.
I proved it over and over.
Of course he did the same shit to me.

  86. L.... B....

    Beautiful.
    The heart of the HIP.

  87. L.... B....

    One of their finest.

  88. J.... F....

Best band ever to come out of Canada...and that is saying something!!!

    J.... F....

    Them and Rush imo

  89. J.... F....

    Bill Barilko...Tragic

  90. K.... ....

I saw his final concert on TV. It was sad.

    K.... ....

Watch "Grace, too" by hip, he cried when singing it...

  91. .... l....

for some reason this is the only hip song i know all the words to.

    .... l....

you have to understand most music i listen to doesn't have lyrics and i don't usually pay attention to them in songs that do, so this one slipped into my head.

    .... l....

well i wasn't asking for anything, just making a statement. but thank you for being cranky all the same.. it keeps me on my toes.

    .... l....

being all hostile on a tragically hip video comment section. i'm sorry such simple things bring you to such anger. you should relax some and enjoy the music instead of attacking people who aren't even here to troll or fight... <3 peace out.

    .... l....

    :) later, gator.

  92. F.... M....

Sounds like a really bad REM covers band.

  93. H.... ....

Lol, some Habs fan is gonna come here and say "This song sucks!"

Yeah? Fuck you too. You guys haven't won SHIT since 1993.

    H.... ....

@Cameron Dufour You gotta admit though, the recent playoff runs have been pretty good. With the signing of Elliot, Brouwer and Johnson, I think the team has a chance of going deep in the playoffs.

    H.... ....

I am a habs fan who absolutely loves this song.
Just because it is about a Leafs player doesn't automatically make habs fans hate it.

    H.... ....

    Laughing since *1967*!

    H.... ....

    yeah GO LEAFS GO

    H.... ....

At least you won Cup, Canucks never have. It hurts

  94. L.... B....

This guy could make a song out of chicken soup.
    Awesome.

  95. D.... M....

every song meant something to me

  96. D.... S....

I like the part where he worked it in to look like "that"
