Question. Is there a definition of almost? Seriously.
Very nearly but not quite is the standard definition.
In the context of the song, I would say she is in a storybook relationship that outwardly appears perfect, but inwardly she is wanting emotional fulfillment. It's like staring at a puzzle with a single piece missing. It's almost complete, but you can't ignore the fact that the critical piece is missing . You wish you could just ignore it, but you can't.
Anyway, that is how I interpret the song. Perhaps the writer (Tracy) had something else in mind.
Timothy Musgrove I interpret it as regrets in life and how almost sometimes isn't enough. It's like she is trying to tell us that we need to try harder than what we have been.
I think she is in a abusive relationship where things look perfect but deep inside she is not happy because the person puts her down
