Townshend, Pete - Psychomontage Lyrics
My name is Ray High
This is my last album
[Ruth:]
Don't you ever ring me up drunk again, Ray, do you hear me?!
You spray like a tomcat
Spray like a tomcat
Piss like a stray dog
Swear like a sailor
Speaking in gang tongues
Kicking in chorus
Step to order
Slashing like a blind man
Lost like a soldier
Lost like a soldier
Blurred like a movie
Grey under streetlights
Grey in the sunshine
Black on the tube line
White on the touchline
Moving like a fever
Spreading like an oil slick
Thicker than a house brick
I'm an English boy
I was brought up right
Hold me down
And I will bite
I know no fear
I serve with joy
I'm proud to be here
An English boy
You spray like a tomcat
Piss like a stray dog
Swear like a sailor
Speaking in gang tongues
Kicking in chorus
Stabbing to order
Slashing like a blind man
Lost like a soldier
I'm an English boy
Precisely made
Pin me down
I am not afraid
I show no fear
I served with joy
I'm proud to be here
I'm an English boy
Blurred like a movie
Grey under streetlights
Grey in the sunshine
So black on the tube line
White on the touchline
Moving like a fever
Spreading like an oil slick
Thicker than a house brick
I'm an English boy
I was brought up right
Come on and raise your dress
And I will bite
My voice is clear
I Got perfect poise
Good to be down here
With all the English boys
Let me tell you the truth and now I can kindly say what I want to say
And it's so even hard at this time of my life
But I know you don't now how I feel right now
But I can see into the history, in the present, past, forever
In one big fucking lie in a bullseye
Slow like a prejudice
Broken like hatred
Kicking at a dead man
Cut pieces to pieces
Marking your territory
Freezing the future
Stopping the stopwatch
I am despairing
I'm an English boy
I was brought up right
Hold me down
And I will bite
I knew no fear
I served with joy
Proud to be here
I'm an English boy
English boy
I'm an English boy
English boy
I'm an English boy
I'm an English boy
I'm an English boy
English boy
Ha ha ha... You know, Mark, I'm telling you, it's just, it's, it's an existential horror. What a life.
Early morning dreams come true
I know that now that I'm here with you
You're here by my side
I'm siding with you
[Ruth:]
If you can't lean on me, who can you lean on?
If you can't lean on me, who can you lean on?
If you can't lean on me, who can you lean on? Have a good show.
Slip kid, slip into experience suit
Give up on your phony freedom now
Slip kid, slip into your Gridlife suit
The Grid seat cover can slow things down
Who am I, where am I, who are you and you?
Who am I, where am I, who are you and you?
Who am I, where am I, who are you and you?
Who am I, where am I, who are you and you?
Hey, little slip kid, slip into your suit
Give up on your phony freedom now
Slip kid, slip into your Gridlife suit
The Grid sleep curfew is closing down
Slip kid, slip into experience suit
Give up on your phony freedom now
Slip kid, slip into your Gridlife suit
The Grid sleep curfew is closing down

Loved hearing you talk about Jimi. Thanks Pete ❤💛💚
Real men don't hold hands with other men at gigs, Pete!
one of the coolest man on the planet. thanks Pete!
Brilliant. All things considered, The Who are the greatest rock band in history. IT's a complex argument to make, and they aren't my favourite band, but you put everything together, longevity, reach, creativity, style, catalogue, musicianship, influence, originality - has to be The Who. And, although Roger is a CBE, this man should be a K.
Moonie and John.....'a couple of yobos'... lol.
Excellent interview. Pete is quite a curmudgeon, and often says things for effect, but he's in a good mood here by his standards, and he's always interesting.
Phily, Pete. The Electric Factory was in Philadelphia.
Pete is the best song writer hands down
Genius

It is hard to imagine this vibrant performer does not like to play live concerts.
Thank you Mr. Townshend, for all your great and often clever music!
We need a video of the first time with Ray Davies
great insights and vulnerability
Hearing stories from our guitar idols that we grew up with really touches me. These are like the stories you could sit down and have a conversation with after dinner with Peter Townsend or Keith Richards and listen to them talk all evening long.
The man with all that amazing ENERGY!!!! I saw him for the first time in an old video a few weeks ago! ahahahah
Good aftermoon Pete townsen
does not like the smell of pot at their concerts coming from a band that ran off cocaine and booze LOL
Royalty is etched all over this man's face. He's synonymous with today's sound.
The first time...... Pete downloaded child porn.
Purely for research purposes obviously
“First time you committed a felony involving children?” Jk..... it was 2003
Remember Townshends Research?
¡! :) Long live Pete!
Just read this online this morning and then I see it. My guide for my entire 57 years on this earth. Thanks for the whole deal ups downs and the all arounds. He and The Who and his brother Simon just couldnt wouldnt want to be in this world without them..
Why should anyone care about this pedophile? The music is good but his disgusting actions make me want to vomit.
Some things cannot be contained
Pete did not think that the Who were producing art. Love to have seen a segment of this video in which he realized for the first time that they were. Like to imagine that if it wasn’t when they came out with Tommy, it was when they came out with the next studio release, Who’s Next.
This is the first time I’m aware of that anyone specifically said that Jimi Hendrix had a great voice, even though he wasn’t a great singer. His singing is never adequately scrutinized, because the fixation was always on the plane.
The first time I saw The Who was August 13th, 1967 at DAR Constitution Hall on the Herman's Hermits tour. The opening act was the 'Blues Magoos'; They ended their set with crashing, bashing and green smoke. Everyone was stunned to silence. Except me and my buddy.
The Who were my first rock band....first real connection i felt to the power of music...still love these guys
The most underrated guitar player who ever walked the earth. A survivor. White City remains the soundtrack of my life.
You're high, go smoke another bowl.
Dude you don't even know the name of the most underrated guitar player who ever walked the earth.
I think Pete's biggest mistake was to be the president of Afghanistan, even though he changed his name to Karzai.. (Humour)
I've been a Who fan for going on 47 years now. I so admired Pete. The one thing about him, and it's true of many very verbal types is - at his best he's witty, got so much valuable to say, and exceptionally insightful - but he needs to edit himself better. I think he gets bored of the same Who and rock history banter, and so he says things to shock or for impact - sometimes really stupid, unfortunate stuff that gets picked up by the press. He looks and seems tired, and knows he's running out of time - as both an artist and as a human being. And all he seems to really have for happiness is whatever his next artistic project might bring.
I really don’t give a fuck that he may or may not like kids. I love the Who’s music more than I despise Pete’s alleged sexual preferences. Separate the art from the artist.
That’s great on quitting The Who. He thought about quitting from day 1 and making it brief. “And it hasn’t been”. A slight understatement. Now his name is totally synonymous with the Who.
The who were the best British band of the 60s.
Is the police caution still on file?
Percy Nobleman
I would imagine it stays on his criminal record.
Pete has a full USA, Australian and New Zealand work visa. This would not be the case if he had a criminal record.
The guys a paedophile 👎
psycho'si carter yeah we know, but I frankly don’t care.
@Henry Berrisford neither did he
Hey someone tell Pete there's a new version of File Shredder out.
Fascinating insights ...
Cream was way more than just eric clapton's band.
A GOD...................
it was just research. sure Pete
i. rob
Wtf has female genital mutilation got to do with townshend visiting underage sites?
@Please permit me to speak oh great one wtf has townshend got to do with you at all ? Why dont you just mind your own business or research and bitch about the real evil right under your nose is what i,m saying .
i. rob Money can buy a great lawyer to get out of trouble. That’s what Pete did.
what does Pete have to do with me liking Jimmy Page and not him? for the record I am pro-vajazzle as many people know
GeorgePlaysFifa 37 pete didn’t go to court tho
Performs but says he doesn't enjoy it. What a pity.
CORRECTION - Cream were Ginger Baker,s band.
I'm blind in one of my eyes and the eye is scarred and Rodger ask me about my eye and what happened to it
And ............... ?????????
I would love to ever get the opportunity to ask Rodger if he remembers that day and if he remembers me and I think he would
In 1973 I met Rodger Daltrey and John Entwistle in public at a public place in Massachusetts called Fresh Pond it's a reservoir people jog around it and ride their bikes around it and John and Rodger were riding brand new 10-speed bikes around it and me and my little buddy cuz I was only 13 at the time saw these brand new bicycles with 12 gears and we had to go look at them and the guys that own them happened to be Rodger and John what an experience we got to hang out with them and shoot the s*** for like an hour or two it was cool
I could listen to this forever. I started a band the day after I heard the Beatles in 1964. I can relate to all this on a smaller scale.
What's the old paedophile been getting up to now then.
Why are you interested ? Go check how your muslim neighbours are perving.
I'm not happy that he's allowed unsupervised internet access.
One of Rock's great intellectuals, always a good interview. Nice to see him still going strong.
One day he will be recognized as one of the UKs greatest songwriters ever.
@Peter Kroll He already is. :-)
@The Triumph of the Thrill
Pete Townshend? Andy Partridge is not, too.
i love you ya old goon
First time hes paid for child porn? Not.
Oh wow, why so short....that was fantastic...I loved what he said about Rog being the guy for him to perform with and at such an advanced age...beautiful...
Yeah, that was interesting, but he didn't say anything about him possibly being the guitarist for Roger, i find that kinda revealing
"Tommy"=brillance
Pete is very gracious in his praise of his peers in this interview , fabulous listening to a true rock legend........
Girl girl girl girlgirlgirl. Love that bit.
so cute to hear him talk so nicely about roger nowadays, knowing that they used to hate eachother to death
He watches images of Children, and got away with it.
I heard you do too. Stop deflecting.
A man who wants to "Fight and Kiss" other men. Jussy Smoletts' role model. IMHO

@Please permit me to speak oh great one I guess you need to look up the word paedo before commenting.
steve welsh
You seem confused, you're the one who's being criticised for spelling it wrong lol.
I know I replied to wrong person trying to point out to the morbidmusic fella that I spelt it correctly lol
@steve welsh ignore grammar Nazis, the best education in the world, and you can just end up being an ignorant conformist
The Who is the greatest live rock 'n' roll band that ever existed...and Pete can say whatever he wants; fuck the haters.
Oh Pete. Not the SG!!
Pete has turned into Sir Alan Sugar............ !!
The first time I heard The Who's "Tommy" I was with Judy Collins' kid sister (Holly Ann). This was 1970, and we were students at a boarding school in New Hampshire, and I had just come from playing pinball. And my brother was on tour with Jimi Hendrix that year (as the guitarist for Buddy Miles). My name is Tommy. At the time, Judy Collins had a top 20 hit with her version of 'Amazing Grace'. Fast forward to Christmas, 2018. I'm having Christmas dinner with my brother. At the time, he had just recently had a phone call from Keith Richards, and I asked them what they talked about, but he wouldn't tell me. And then I started to sing a tune from The Who's "Tommy", entitled-'Christmas' (the chorus): "Tommy doesn't know what day it is. He doesn't know who Jesus was or what praying is. How can he be saved, from the eternal grave." Three months later, he died of cancer. He wrote the song-"I Still Love You, Anyway"-for Buddy Miles' "Them Changes" album.
Doubting Thomas my condolences to you on the loss of your Brother.
@Joe Dech Thank you. I remember him telling me about meeting Jimi Hendrix for the first time. And then there was Christmas of '16: That's when he told me about meeting David Bowie. This will be my first Christmas without him.
@Doubting Thomas 😥
Thanks for sharing your memories.
Picked up a "Tommy" vinyl album the other day at "Punk Rock Flea Market" event in my city.
Doubting Thomas You’ll both be in my thoughts during these holidays. Definitely can be a rough time of the year. Thank you for sharing your memories.
🙏
Thats him, caught by police downloading childporn ,full film on yutube,on par with glitter, harris, etc etc
Actually thats not the case at all.
You too i heard . I hope you,ve deleted it, or was it just research?
joedog281
Can't believe the police made an appointment with him to search his home, yeah great idea.
I'm glad several of these "elder statesmen" of rock and roll are doing this. The world needs to hear their perspective on their life and times. Brilliant!
Disgusting. You're obviously deleting any negative comments... lol
Yours is still there isnt it ?
The most shittiest group ever.
Craig Sheppard *w r o n g*
@Henry Berrisford Well to me they are.
What a nice guy...amazing what he's been through
Neboviews
Please...don't virtue signal paedophiles.
Please permit me to speak oh great one I agree, learn to spell it though.
Could listen to him just talk. He's an amazing artist. Glad i was shown The Who.
Can't help anticipating what will eventually come to light. What a creepy, arrogant, slimy individual.
The Who are pound for pound one of the greatest bands ever! That said...I have never heard 2 people COMPLAIN more then Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey!!! They have virtually never been happy with each other or anyone around them. They remind me of the joke .....Pete Townshend (Roger Daltrey) is sitting at a table having soup and the waiter comes by and asks...is ANYTHING all right???
jason broad awe bullsh#t
One of my most enjoyable moments of my life, was the time I finally after decades, got to see this band perform live The Who. Time and time again, I just never was able to connect and get to see them when they came to the United States. Somehow someway, we got on the computer and lucked out and got some tickets to this 50th anniversary and final tour. And I mean Rodger Daltrey and Pete Townsend we're still kicking ass like it was 1978. I was amazed. Not one single seat was available in a 20000 seat Arena.
So, I can die a little happier now. It would have been a shame to have never seen The Who live
RS: maybe even out the audio levels between pete and the b roll, or use a limiter. saying for a friend.
I've seen the who seven times including two with Keith moon on drums. I think Pete Townshend must be a right boring sod to have a pint with though
Wrong. Wrong then, wrong now.
Not Another even though he’s an alcoholic
4:29 “They weren’t about “girl, girl, girl, girl, girl, girl” Thinks about the song Girl; “girl, girl”
did everyone forget that Townshend was convicted of downloading child pornography?
No he wasn’t. Freaking google it.
David Kulczyk
People don't forget that sort of thing, I think he's pretty naive to think they will.
What do Pete Townsend, Jimmy Saville and Jeffrey Epstein have in common... Hmmm?
@Johnny Wheels same as you i,d suspect. I think you,re projecting.
@i. rob Struck a nerve there snowflake? Do your homework son and you might learn something 👍
First time you downloaded kiddie porn?
Some say The Best man for the job , is the one who doesn't want it
Cool video!
Old pedophile.
Dirty paedophile.
He hated Led Zeppelin. I like the Who and they have a lot of great songs. Quadrophenia is better than any Led Zeppelin album as a complete piece. But comparing The Who to Led Zeppelin is like comparing a helicopter to an airplane
But which band is the airplane, in this analogy? Led Zeppelin may have outsold the Who in their heyday, but many of us feel the Who are the superior band.
@wylie richardson The Who aren't superior in any way. Zeppelin outsold them, was way more influential, ushered in a new era of rock music. The Who came out with bluesy/funky almost pre-punk pop in the midst of Beatlemania. The Who was always second to Beatles, and at times were pushed around to 3rd 4th. Also, how can you compare the two when the Who's last good year was 1973. The Who by Numbers is one of the most disappointing rock albums I can think of. It is a matter of opinion, but Zeppelin is way bigger and better. I would like to know what favorite Who songs you like. Mine is pretty much anything of Quadrophenia, I like Bargain because of the solo break, Kids are alright, my generation. Sellout is OK. About a third of Tommy is really good. Not to say Tommy is a bad album, but some songs aren't great on their own. Overall, The Who are great, and at a time my favorite band. I still have a poster of them covering up a hole in my wall. But as Iv'e gotten older Iv'e craved more simple, heavier, straight to the point music. And I get that with Led Zeppelin 2, Presence, and Physical Graffiti. The only album the Who has that is heavy is probably Quadrophenia. (heavy in a weird way)Who's Next has classic songs but its not heavy to me. My Wife is the best song on that album by far. Thanks for reading
Always remember Pete is a pedophile. Nothing else he has ever done matters.
why would all of his music amount to nothing? Just curious. You can hate him if you want, but you have to consider that Pete has never been accused of actual child molestation.
Does it thrill you to remember one old musician. Why dont you just move on with your life like he does?
PEDOFILE.
Liam Gallagher I hate when I see people filing kids
Pedo alert!!!
I love this Man!
Join the ORANGE Sunshine double dose concert by the GREAT CHAIN on the day that President Trump executes all the Bush's Clinton's Obama's Podesta's Brennan's ilk hellywoods paedophiles CNN'S pedovores CIA FBI & Bernie Bolshevik Sanders commies scumbags POS CANNABAL Satanist paedophile demons.
the greatest ALL AROUND rock musician ever! No one else even close !
Tee Vee I wouldn’t say he’s one of the best musicians but one of the best songwriters ever without a doubt. Tommy is a bonafide masterpiece. He’s a great musician, but can’t compare to guys like Gilmour, Hendrix, SRV, Fripp, Numan, etc.
@Haut Strange I dont think Gary Numan even plays the guitar, tho. Never even heard of 'SRV'. If it counts for anything, I rank guitarists in the following order: 1) Jimmy Page 2) Pete 3) Hendrix 4) The Edge (U2) 5) Keef from the Stones 6) David Gilmour 7) Neil Young 8) Joe Perry 9) Eric Clapton 10) Ritchie Blackmore
@wylie richardson pfft!
anything about him being a pedophile? no? ok.
Those are some really great stories. Amazing how they could smash all those guitars on stage and then rebuild it, you'd think one time smashing it and it was wrecked. They must have been very well built. I thought after all these years that, man, that guy goes through a lot of guitars, that must be expensive.
I've always considered him to be the rock n roll intellect.
we can work it out
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Legend !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pete's a real one. You are always going to get something truthful and wise out of his yob. I love him for that!
Love the Who but the whole guitar smashing is so fake and crap. Probably genuine the first time but looks like an adult having a tantrum. Just give the bloody thing to a kid wants to play it!
You are right, but keep in mind that the instrument-destroying was part of a concept that Pete invented: art that self-destructs.
That is a pompous explanation for gratuitous showmanship.
Oh at least he repaired it but ffs
An incredible writer and I respect his earlier body of work very much. But very disappointing to hear him say to fans now that he dislikes touring and "only really doing it for the money". We all have to make a living but I think thats a shame he says that because The Who has always been about connecting live and meaningfully with an audience and Pete performing live with genuine emotion in his art. To watch Pete doing something he says he hates doing, and only for the money, spoils the occasion for me. I think its a bit disrespectful to fans too as it kind of says "I'm only here for the money - your money". I won't be going to see them for this reason. I will listen to the music he composed and played when he wasn't just doing it for the money.
I thought this would be a video about the first time this guy jerked off to kiddy porn :( look it up
God , the first time I saw a picture of the Who in Seventeen magazine , oh yeh !
What an amazing Musician.
One of my friends did personal security for these guys and part of his job was to sweep up and throw away Pete’s destroyed guitars. If only he would have bagged and dated them he would have retired a rich man.
M. Black ooooooh fuck
