Townshend, Pete - Annie Lyrics
Old oaks stand tall, Annie
Seen the world grow small, Annie
But when they fall, Annie, where will we be?
Winter has come, Annie
No strength in the sun, Annie
Where shall we be?
When all the colors have faded
When ol' Jack comes to call
Don't tell him no, tell him maybe
Oh no Annie, may God bless us all
Oh yes Annie, may God bless us all
Hear the children, they call, Annie
Every leaf must fall, Annie
Wherever we'll be

A beautiful song…there was a time we, had a variety of music that was breathtaking….a favorite of mine….so sad.
bill william todays music scene is dead without thinkers
Can't find words to ever tell what this song means to me.......a glimpse of Heaven?
i like it just fine
Absolute 'peace', peace with the world is spelt 'Ronnie Lane', beautiful music, beautiful guy....."God bless us ALL Annie, wherever we'll be"....'God bless you Ronnie' for all the joy you bring us!
I think that the only song with more of Ronnie's soul in it is "April Fool" but I love them both sooooo much and I miss Ronnie. This truly is and always will be my favorite album of all time.
This beautiful song was sent to me by an old friend. I love it <3
My favorite all time album...so glad I have the real thing.
this is magic stuff from a legend
This song truly makes my heart ache....it is so beautiful and Ronnie is sadly missed
This is one of about possibly 10 songs I've heard in my life, that i just call magical. It takes you somewhere else......to me, I call it closer to GOD. A special, lovely and magical song. guaranteed to make one weep and you don't even know why....
A wonderful testament to the sheer genius of Ronnie Lane. It sounds like a song you've heard all your life the first time you hear it. That's a rare quality. Ronnie was a rare soul. But then again, who isn't?
Townsend says he had done something terrible to his wife and Ronnie told him off and he hit him. Ronnie flew across thee room and he knew then that something was wrong with him. Pete helped out Ronnie alot......
You are a cool dude! Treasure this.
Pete Townsend refers to the "fight" that's been discussed here, in the documentary "The Passing Show: The Life and Music of Ronnie Lane", here on YouTube, part 5/6 at about 6:35.
It was actually the first time when he could see that Lane was ill. An incident, as part of a long friendship, with a lot more to it, but some people only want to emphasize things like that, for some reason. These musicians respected and loved each other, in the first place.
God i owned this album a long time ago check out Richmond by Ronnie sooooo many memories
I have searched for this song for years. Finally found a classic.
A great great song off one of the best albums I've ever heard. Ronnie Lane was a rare talent.
So he picked on a sick man as well, wish ronnie was here to see him signing on at the register, what a f--k up
can we stop with the pete bashing plaeas its anoyying me
@JBtheModManchester townsend was and always will be a wanker.
i dont think ive ever seen a bad comment on any of ronnie's videos. God Bless you mate...one for the road
God Bless Ronnie Lane. This man was even a legend when music was at its best
@plonker00765 Plonker is an apt name. Why put up shit like that. It's total bollocks. I played with Ronnie and he was my best pal for some years.I know the real situation and i wouldn't bother telling a plonker like you. Townsend Came from the same place as me,and we could all have a fight if bothered by troublemakers.
Ronnie Lane vids are the one place on Youtube you dont find negative comments, trust Pete Townsend to fuck that up. God bless, Ron
the original indie showman a magic in his songwriting
@Khultan ahhh, did i upset you faggot, what's an imbeclie anyway, you don't mean imbecile like you do you,
hey, did you know that townsend was caught with child porn on his computer, great guy eh,someone a person like you could really look up to, tosser.
@plonker00765 Face what? You twisted pathetic mindless twerp that you add your own ficitional embellishments to an account that is as Pete relates the incident to the interviewer and to the public? As for your useless and unintelligent declarations I expect no less from a rambling imbeclie as you have revealed yourself to be. Good day, idiot.
@plonker00765 You over exagerrating idiot. Yes, he did give Ronnie a punch but not the way you're making it more colorful, you low down son of a bitch.
shows you what an ar*ehole townsend is
Everyone should own this album.
Shame pete had to spoil it all by doing what he did
@seftonstreet and so you should peasant, actually, i've never written anything suggesting i know anything other than what i've read or heard from townsend through the media.
@seftonstreet great comment einstien.
@plonker00765 i can,t disagree with you there, townsend is a legend as far as guitar is concerned,he belongs up there with clapton, hendrix, srv and all the greats, they all have their own styles and townsend is no different, his style is like no other, you could pick him out on an unknown recording just by his idiosynchrasy's.
and yes the who are one of the supergroups of our time.
@seftonstreet townsend was never a hippy, shit, where the hell did you get that from,he was the opposite of a hippy, anti hippy if you like,he was the bad boy of rock and roll.
@plonker00765: That's not fair and you know it. Pete deserved to get punched by Ronnie and Pete admitted it. It's only after Pete struck back that he realized Ronnie wasn't drunk.
How dare you, plonker00765. How dare you say something so cruel.
thanks for posting this,I had this cassette when first released and wore the tape right out. What a wonderful era, what memories.
@JBtheModManchester maybe but it,s also live on the dvd i mentioned ( i have the dvd ),i didn't know of the other things you mentioned but it doesn't change townsend as a wannabe toughguy,he comes across as a prat at times on the who dvd i mentioned. all that aside, iwill say he's one of the planets best guitarists in one of the best bands ever.
@JBtheModManchester straight from the horses mouth,on the dvd " the who & special guests live
at the royal albert hall " townsend rambles on about it as though he were proud that he beat him up.
townsend has always been a tuff guy wannabe.
Excellent music and song!!! Love it:)) Thanks for posting.

I said it's too good for German radio - because it's never on...
Zu gut fürs Dudelradio?
God Bless Ronnie Lane. May he find peace and a pain free life in the here after and beyond...Still miss you and your wonderful music xxx
@sloanscreen45
I'm tempted to say that you can't go wrong with his stuff but here are the essentials, imo:
Anymore For Anymore 1974
Ronnie Lane's Small Chance 1974
One For The Road 1975
Tin & Tambourine (1998 comp)
April Fool (1999 comp w/many rarities...ESSENTIAL)
God Bless You Ronnie
I cna't do anything but cry, what can I say? The man is an inspiriation to us all...
@Harland52 - I've got to say, when they say "follow your heart"- when it came to music there was absolutely no compromise with Ronnie Lane. The Passing Show was the greatest example of this. What an incredible experience that must have been for you! Not to mention how many people, bands and music he influenced throughout his life. Thank you for sharing your personal experience. -HJluck
@Townsend was nothing compared to Ronnie, he would not have hit him if he was as evolved as Ronnie!hampden12
This song makes my heart absolutely melt. RIP Ronnie.
We miss Ronnie, the poet the humble man, most loveable..the gentleness and purpose of this song truly matches Ronnie..God bless you too Ronnie, never to be far from our hearts.
