Townsend, Devin - Triumph Lyrics

Calling, it's calling, I can't stay here
Knowing there's no higher
Going, I've gone for many years
Going makes me tired
And they said it was this and they said

But it's...

Call for me Jesus, I'm waiting here
Knowing I'm a liar
Knowing I've known more than half my share
Knowing bade this triumph!
And they said it was this
And they said it was that
And they said it was this and they said

But it's...
WHAT?!?!

Hooray for Dr. Young
Hooray for earth born and son
Hooray the time has come
We vanish once again

One word - collective
Mankind - connected

Never going to die, we're always gonna live forever ever every day
With my skies of grey
In my field of green

I've been all I've been
Only for the ego in me
Hide from the apocalypse around

Townsend, Devin Triumph Comments
  1. J.... H....

Miss dev when it was Devin townsend band, strapping and before. While I don't like what I've heard from empath he has made so much good music that a bad record or just mediocre is OK at times.

  2. N.... M....

Great guitar solo from Steve Vai... Great song indeed

  3. T.... S....

Devin is the Mozart of the metal music...

  4. J.... D....

    Steve Vai.

  5. K.... B....

    He is quite mad.

  6. .... ....

Great . My ringing sound in the phone for 6 years.

  7. J.... U....

    0:40 - 0:46 sounds like a medical problem

(don't shoot me lol I love Devin he's awesome)

  8. x.... ....

Definitely Devin's most underrated and in my opinion under appreciated album

  9. D.... R....

Steve Morse riff at 3:45. Cool!

  10. d.... W....

whaaa aaaah AAAAT? whaaa aaaah AAAT? whaaa aaaaah AAAT?

    W.... ....

This is hilarious... I looked for my favorite part of the song and it's right fucken on 4:20 :D ahaha right on Dev

    W.... ....

I don't hear the resemblance to Dive off Epicloud

  12. L.... M....

One of the best intros I've ever heard

    L.... M....

Mirrored by THE best outro ever.

  13. S.... W....

Один из лучших альбомов. Что уж и говорить, Девин забросил дудку с марихуанной и в последних альбомах изюминки стало не хватать какой то...

  14. d.... ....

The Jesus reference just made me swear and turn the video off . Vai and Jesus should never be combined !

    d.... ....

dryedmeet I'm atheist myself but why would you get wound up over a lyric like that?
    It's probably just metaphorical anyway.

    d.... ....

    shoot yourself. please.

    d.... ....

    Glen Benton?

    In any case, childish.

    d.... ....

For the record being 'religious' is fake christianity in the classical sense. Jesus was constantly shuned by the religious men of his day for bein to radical, actually it led to h is death.
Having a relationship with your creator and his son that was crucified for no sin and rose again on the third day, even from a historical point of view, is true christianity.
Not churchianity that so many have lumped together.. Not saying that going to church now and again to connect with your creator is a bad thing but its not mission critical to being a true Christian.
Many people get the two confused. If vai or devin have come to know Christ as thier savior, even if they dont feel like being public about it at the time (due to people like you and their own lively hood being at stake) you shouldnt shun good music because of it.
Thats the same as "christians" saying gays shouldnt exist because we dont believe it is right. You cant have both sides bro please search your soul, all of you, that is if you believe in such a thing.
I know its hard to imagine there being anything except what you have been force fed since the time you were born and placed in front of a screen but youre not just a random product of evolution.
Look up the fibinacci sequence (probably spelled wrong im drinking some beer and listening to vai forgive me i dont feel like spell checking myself).
Anyways once you know you were created and that we're more then evolved apes you will come to find that there are two sides, good and evil, and Christ is the product of the side of good thats why real christians are slaughtered more then any other group in human history, even if google wont tell you about it.
Evil has power in this moment but hopefully you will find that good always wins in the end. And that it produces some kick ass music that has meaning and SOUL behind it.
I hope you will all find the truth that is behind the surface. Just remember in everyday life there is more then meets the eye, to reach the depths of truth you must drag the waters👊.
Shout out to the men/women that chose to go in contrast to the grain of normal human reality in this day in age and give props to their creator/savior/holy spirit in a time where even the name of Jesus will cause you to be hated, even if they cant put together a valid argument. But i digress. Christ bless you all

    d.... ....

Jernej Demšar It takes the same amout of 'faith' i have in God to believe in something you cannot explain. Meaning evolution. The butterfly is no more intelligent then the larva it grew out of, we still see larva catipillers and butterflys every where. Where are all the missing links? They should find them everywhere or at least skeletons of them. Youre the one cherry picking which words you listen to out of darwins mouth, later in his life he said that he was wrong about the whole thing. Genetic adaptation is far different then growing from an ape into something that creates language, art and countless other things far more complex then an ape could understand. Even if it took millions of years, thats millions of years of skeletons that dont exist. I have entertained the idea of evolution so dont act like i just choose to believe only what sounds nice to my belief system and discard what doesnt. Ive done hours upon hours of research on the subject and have come to my belief on the subject by myself through research. I encourage you to do the same, not out of hate but of brotherly love. You sound intelligent so im confident you wont arrive at the conclusion that youre a random product of primordial soup. Science heads are on average more dogmatic then christians in my experiance. As for keeping it to myself that defeats to point of having a firmly held belief, commies are out in the streets telling people why they believe the system were in is wrong. I may not agree that our system is perfect but its better then imploding our country. But even if i disagree with what they say i will defend untill death their right to say it. What fun would life be if everyone agreed on everything? It would almost defeat the purpose of language in some sense because we would already know what the other has to say, it would be what everyone has to say. Thats where free thought comes in. As for the Christians being constanly hated and the evil having an iron grip on almost everything you see and hear, unless youre bold enough to looking it yourself and happen to find a free thinker who has done his or her research and can convay what they believe in an intelligent manner without personally attacking the other person, i will leave that up to you. But evolution has been proven to be bullshit from more then one world view. If you always know everything you cant learn anything and that is more regressive then having faith in my savior. Peace be with you as well

  15. C.... C....

Jesus H this and the newer version of Kingdom just blows my mind

  16. R.... H....

@vitormalta , are you serious or just insane? Steve Vai could never be "the most boring sound in a devy work".

    R.... H....

I disagree with the comment but that really isn't much of a criticism lol

  17. K.... ....

but it leads to a pretty sweat part doesn't it?

    K.... ....

lol the sweatiest of all the parts there ever were. :)

  18. v.... ....

5:14 start the most boring sound in a devy work

  19. D.... ....

He's the kind of artist that makes me want to stop talking to people and do nothing but listen to his music, and occasionally his commentaries and interviews.

  20. D.... ....

Does anybody know what the filtered background talking in the into is?

    D.... ....

Drillkicker it's the first couple of lines of the lyrics spoken i believe

  21. d.... ....

Devin is the kind of artist that makes me want go out and scream at people that they need to listen to him. Such a fucking underrated, underappreciated music genius. FUCK, COME ON PEOPLE.

  22. L.... C....

    The Song

  23. r.... ....

    He does. Indeed.

  24. A.... G....

you are right, devin is awesome.. but at 05.14 he's steve vai. his style is unmistakable. read it on wikipedia>synchestra. ;)

  25. N.... D....

    go back to school

  26. p.... ....

I know that, but the pattern of the tones and sequences in the guitar is too Steve Vai from 05:20 to 06:19.
    It's only a hunch :P

  27. r.... ....

You don't know what you're talking about, it's Steve Vai in the solo indeed.

  28. P.... A....

They work together already at Sex & Religion album. Maybe that's why it look similar.

    P.... A....

    Priscila, Steve Vai 😊

  29. P.... A....

No! It's actually Devin himself. He's awesome even at as guitarplayer.

  30. p.... ....

    Is Steve Vai playing here?

  31. m.... j....

"Vai's piece is magic" i dont think i have heard any thing by Devin or vai that has not had a little magic in it .

  32. l.... ....

I don't think there are very many ghost notes on this whole album. I like the snare on this album. I think it fits the music better than a deeper sounding snare would.

  33. k.... ....

Actually Steve Vai is a guest in this masterpiece himself. :)

  34. S.... W....

    5:13 so steve vai

  35. S.... W....

Actually I kinda like how the snare sits right in the middle like that. Its a complimenting sound to the rest of the channels.

  36. B.... ....

I heard the country breakdown, then I heard the chord progression from the Beatles Oh-Bla-Di mixed in there, so when Vai's solo came up, I thought "oh cool, now he's having a go at Vai's style." I was totally believing that he could mimic Vai for a minute. LOL

  37. R.... M....

    I hear it too.

  38. N.... T....

    Vai's piece is magic

  39. N.... T....

    knnnoooowing there's no.....iron :P

  40. v.... ....

    3:44 unexpected

  41. d.... ....

That bastard makes it look so easy, yeah? Cranks out four CDs in no time flat, each a masterpiece. Someone needs to actually give the man some money, one of these days. Ah well, what he lacks in funds he more than makes up for in hardcore fans that would, in all likelihood, kill in his name, plant Skullet flags in the corpses and claim their land for the glory of Ziltoid. Doesn't suck, when you think about it.

  42. H.... ....

I'll keep this simple - YOU fucking suck!

  43. E.... ....

Yes, this and Deep Peace. Absolute masterpieces! Thank you. :)

  44. J.... ....

LOL someone either has shitty headphones or a shitty taste in music. He probably uses Dre Beats XD

  45. O.... K....

    @zipperskin Well, he did :D

  46. B.... B....

    1:00 devin is Jesus

  47. C.... ....

I've heard a ridiculous amount of music in my life and I can honestly say that this is probably one of the best songs I've ever heard.

  48. G.... ....

Steve Vai performs an extended guitar solo on this track “Triumph”

  49. s.... ....

5:13 - awesome solo by Vai! Short, sweet, and abslolutely beautiful. What a cool dude, to participate on this song :)

  50. a.... ....

@schoolsterzz I challenge you to quantify this. Go ahead. Fail.

  51. K.... ....

    This song makes me happy.

  52. C.... ....

2:51 DADADAA DADADAA! Gotta love that shit

  53. A.... H....

5:21 is like a pimped out devin townsend take on that one section from rushs la villa strangiato

  54. A.... ....

is he referring to Carl Jung and the collective unconcious in this song? hmmm I've always just assumed that.

    A.... ....

AnthonyXander too many people in their own echo chamber to know who Carl Jung is , they don't understand how Devin can mention religion In his lyrics, not be possessed by ideology and still learn from and respect them.

  55. m.... ....

@rurzan Well said. 1.46 is one of those sweet spots... and 3.27... actually fuck it this whole song is one.

  56. M.... ....

@schoolsterzz i think u had your headphones in where the mic goes, because i can see no other way that a human being could hear this music and say that

    M.... ....

damn, me from 6 years ago was savage

  57. v.... ....

@schoolsterzz So, why are you here???

  58. K.... M....

@schoolsterzz Hey! Shut your mouth! This is not a Primus video, so your comment is unacceptable!

  59. s.... ....

    This song sucks!

  60. D.... H....

I love everything this man creates.

  61. r.... ....

@sickLu1z No problem, at the time I uploaded it there were few DT songs on YT, so I thought I should share this masterpiece with the world :)

  62. C.... N....

    Steve Vai plays this solo...

  63. S.... W....

@Pyrokanetis Ghost is going to be in a world of its own. Having hear the stuff that he's been putting up on his own youtube from it...I can't be anymore impressed than I already am until its released :3

  64. C.... ....

Great song overall, and one of Steve's best solos.

  65. P.... ....

@MikeC26GH I think that something on Ghost will literally cause bricks to be shat.

  66. m.... ....

This is quite possible the greatest song I have ever heard. Devin you are a god of music

  67. B.... C....

@Nelarsen that's a very subjective statement buddy. If you don't like it, don't listen to it. It's that simple

  68. 2.... ....

This is just from an alternate plane of consciousness - and I love it!!!!!!

  69. S.... L....

@rurzan Yeah you must listen to them on a good system to even begin to really appreciate what all is going on hard to believe its just 4 guys...

  70. X.... O....

All the bullshit comments and arguments are really tiring.

  71. P.... S....

Hmm... I do like Ki a lot, and Addicted too, less than Ki though... But... I can't help thinking that I wish he'd kept his wall of sound that is, to me, the Devin trademark. That overwhelming feeling..

  72. g.... ....

@theemperorofdarkness I believe you think you're quite insightful...

  73. g.... ....

@IrradicableOne thank you for a civil reply. I truly enjoy getting those (even tho my original comment was a bit trolly - but not dishonest)
And I'd have to agree with you on fascism being cool - it's the hip thing now'a days..

  74. K.... ....

    3:44 I love it!

  75. g.... ....

@gibbsies Yes, fascists will try and restrict my freedom of speech.

  76. g.... ....

@gibbsies I'm not in the mood to get into a discussion about the ontology of truth.
And yes, I write music.. And I still think the song is boring..

  77. g.... ....

@gibbsies Yes, you replying is an implicit statement in itself.. Oh, and btw, the song is quite boring...

  78. g.... ....

@gibbsies Nor does yours.. At least I don't act I think it matters... Btw, I still think it's boring. Also, I believe you fail at logic...

  79. g.... ....

    @gibbsies why?

  80. Z.... ....

@gibbsies - As well as Steve Vai is credited on the album for the outro solo here.

  81. Z.... ....

@ZiniNkenaki Hehe, nah dude it actually IS Steve Vai. He's creditted on the CD as the "Solo on Track 3" Yup.... it's Steve Vai.

  82. Z.... ....

@ClaptonandSlash No... it IS actually Steve Vai. Look at the recording credits.

  83. B.... K....

That's all Devin. He has some soloing that sounds imular to Vai-ish playing, but he has his own style, and you can tell the difference if you listen closely.

  84. J.... J....

@Zeta9966 its not steve vai, although Devin did tour with steve vai right out of high school so im sure he picked up some technique

  85. m.... ....

    @Zeta9966 No ;)

  86. Z.... ....

Am I the only person that realized immediately that Steve Vai is soloing on the last half of this track?

  87. M.... ....

    hey some decent country

  88. g.... ....

    this is quite borring..

  89. R.... T....

@rurzan Agree with everything you say, except the last part. Devin is way beyond metal, way beyond any music known to men. He's an alien sent down to earth to expand our minds:)

  90. G.... ....

    @patrickd161
and then after that bizzare part, comes the best part of the song! epic!

  91. A.... ....

    Hooray... for Devin Townsend

  92. H.... ....

    @RobertBorden121

Actually, the solo is played by Steve Vai himself. :)

Steve and Devin go a long way back, since Devin did vocals on Steve Vai's Sex and Religion

  93. A.... S....

i think devin townsend is truly truly mad

  94. r.... ....

@Nelarsen The melodies of vocals, the sound (listen to Devin with good equipment - there's so many layers of sound in his music), interesting rhythm, combinations of notes and chords making a perfect harmony (or sometimes a beautiful disharmony).

To me, personally, it's about all the "sweet spots" in his songs. He's the mad scientist of heavy metal.

  95. N.... ....

I'm sorry, but what is the 'beauty' of his music? Maybe it's just not my genre at all.

  96. r.... ....

@dimetonn I love all these comments. It makes me proud to be a fan of Devin's music.

  97. T.... G....

    my head is eiaculating

  98. R.... T....

This is what music on the radio should sound like. This is brilliant, thoughtful, spiritual and so touching. And his solo, I just hang on every note.

  99. N.... ....

    That part before the weird western interlude is so mindlblowingly epic. Holy fuck ;_;

  100. b.... ....

amazing album. btw, that's a Steve Vai solo on this song.
