The irony for me is, I lost the last of my good hearing at a Strapping Young Lad show in Dallas, when they were touring for the SYL album. I'm not deaf, but now my ears are ringing pretty much 24/7, and I can't sleep without some kind of white noise (like a fan or something) in the background. No, it's not cool. Protect your hearing, people. Wear good quality earplugs at live shows. The music will still sound good, and you'll be able to enjoy music (and your everyday audible life) for much longer. ;)

Good advice, I have always took good care of my hearing but in 2013 I went to an Opeth and Katatonia concert and got a spot about 5ft from the stage with no ear plugs, about 10 minutes in I had to move back to the side it was so loud it just sounded like noise, I haven't noticed any serious damage but it does seam like there is a slight ringing I can hear when it's really quiet now, maybe I'm just paranoid though, I'm just glad I moved.

Actually, the SYL show I saw in Dallas also had Opeth (and Meshuggah). Great show, but yeah, I was literally right in front of the speakers off to the left side for pretty much the entire show. I could barely hear anything for a few days, and my hearing hasn't been the same since.
@DarthMohammed That sucks man, give it time and they will have some magic pill or something to cure hearing problems :P

Well, like I said, I'm not deaf (thankfully), and my hearing, for the most part, is still functional. It's just that the ringing never totally stops, especially in complete silence, and in some situations with background noise going on, I have trouble hearing muffled things and certain tones a little bit. It's not bad, but since that incident (about 10 years ago now), there is a noticeable permanent difference.
This needs to be on a video game soundtrack, especially the middle half, I love this song it's excellent!!!!! Ratchet and clank? Maybe? Or a creepy Helloweenish video game?
