Townsend, Devin Olives Comments
....I get it. I think? I think this song is describing the feelings of a former alcoholic or addict, and the social distortion that they feel being sober after so many years of seeing life through the haze of their substance of choice. Everything gives off a sense of being 'too quiet', so the brain gives off its own noise to compensate. And the pull of that former addiction, that subconscious drive that draws the person towards relapse, to the point where even so much as the thought of the olives in a martini can trigger a mental cascade and lead to spiraling thoughts or behavior. It boils down to the need for constant control of one's environment, and this song portrays what happens when one loses that control. It starts with small cracks until they form a shatterpoint where everything else crumbles, all your walls and coping mechanisms fail until you either cave or go into a state of mania. This is way out of left field but that's what I'm getting out of this track.
Ooooolivvvvve?
Well that was weird...
