Townsend, Devin - Depth Charge Lyrics

1, 2, 3, 4
All right, we are...

I know (who's behind the door, who's behind the door)
Suddenly decide to listen to me
Falling from the interior
Who's behind the door, who's behind the door?

Safety, (sexuality, falling away from me)
Suddenly decide to listen to me
Thank you for being my medium
Who's behind the door, who's behind the door?

Reptile, the reptile in me, yeah
Animal, I'm an animal
And we're all the same, all the same
So I'm sending to you this depth charge

Known, into the unknown, seeking the unknown
Into the unknown depths
Suddenly decide to listen to me
Thank you for the material
Who's behind the door? I'm behind the door!

Red line, the red line in me, yeah
Insect or animal,
Though we're not the same
Everything's the same!

Known, into the unknown, seeking the unknown
Into the unknown depths

It's all the same!
That's all that we are. Mother
Everything that we are. Father
This is all that you are. Sister
Every little thing that you are. Family

Further, further, further
Bring it on!

Known, into the unknown, seeking the unknown,
Into the unknown Depths

Known, into the unknown, no anger, no
Into the unknown depths, depths, depths, depths, depths

Townsend, Devin Depth Charge Comments
  1. The Lone Deranger

1:37 for the most delicious riff.

  2. cityside75

An absolutely HUGE opener to AE, from a guy that knows how to open an album. Plus a great showcase for Dev's vocals, moving effortlessly between beautiful cleans and brutal screams. As soon as you reach 1:39 there's no turning back!

  3. Gaby Pereyra

Yeeeeaaaah men, this is the true and heavy Devin Music, ah" i miss this songs.

  4. Jóh Kri Hal

Yes, we have also reptilian mind...some more than others... :)

    Jóh Kri Hal

But who really is behind this door?

  5. Yanick Lajoie

2018 Still Amaze by this Masterpiece !

  6. Jacktrack7

The beginning kinda reminds me of Velvet Kevorkian.

  10. electrizer

Fucking voice that guy has. Amazing!

  11. Ivan Petrow

HELP AGAIN! Come on, so who can understand that background words from "Depth charge" (1 min 22 sec.)? Fans of Devin from Canada, USA, UK don't be so lazy, please! Maybe, it sounds like: " “It’s way……. evolution makes some complex” Come on, do it!

    Mitchell Gillett

I admire your dedication to fellow Devy fans, brother. I can't make it out very well here, but I'm gonna be purchasing the CD in the near future, and I'll let you know if it's written in the lyric book.

  12. Robbie h

    Hair standing on end!!

  13. Ivan Petrow

HELP! Who knows the SPOKEN intro WORDS (or BACKGROUND WORDS) in my favorite song from "Accelerated evolution" album - it's called "Depth charge". So I can't understand the lyrics from 1 min 22 sec. - 1 min. 28 sec. And after that comes the first verse (I know who's behind the door ...). So these word right before the verse 1.

  14. walcon

    Awesome song!

  15. Astral Tides

Oh, this album does things to me. Its all so bright...

    WeWantYouToStay

    +Robert Brennan dick

    Robert Brennan

    good one!

    VeN

+Robert Brennan I wonder which insecurity bred this behavior? This need to feel superior on the internet? : )

    Timothy Tbh

nothing to do with insecurity or feeling superior, he was just right

    Fruitless Worship

what is right about using a word that doesn't apply to explain something? that seems, well, WRONG to me

  16. Brenda Lavoieri

    30s: medalha medalha medalha.

  17. Andrew Lamont

Pretty sweet, but still leaves me wanting more? Could be the repetitiveness of the sections. Besides that, and the obvious loudness war problem it's a kickass tune. Surprising elements and pretty damn lush. Bwaat

    WeWantYouToStay

There is not a 'loudness war problem', this is how devy chooses to produce his albums and honestly it's some of the best production ever. So overwhelmingly layered and complex, yet crystal clear, allowing you to hear every detail he wanted you to hear. The production on here is an absolute triumph

    Avarice

+WeWantYouToStay "IT'S ALL THE SAAAME" - Devin Townsend

    Ziltoid TheOmniscient

I love this song, but I feel it shouldn't have been longer than 4, 4.5 minutes.

  18. Ivan Oliveira

    This song kickass!

  19. Allen Steel

    The Mad Genius !

  20. secreticelandprod

People also use it for Dark Tranquillity. They should make a "DT" tour ^.^

  21. Ryan Vandale

WHO'S BEHIND THE DOOR? I'M BEHIND THE DOOR!!!!!!!!

  22. Matt Speak

    SUDDENLY DECIDE TO LISTEN TIMMAY

  23. Jordy

Love how uptempo the chorus is

  24. Ricardo Petinga

I love "The Death Of Music" and I understand how it can seem depressing to some but I don't find it depressing at all. To me it's a song about coping with loss and embracing all powerful emotions, even if they're overwhelming. I actually find it kinda uplifting. It's like, everyone goes through loss, but it's not the end of the world, you know?

  25. cliftonc83

    REPTILE!! THE REPTILE IN MEEEEE!!!!!

  26. FjompeNiZZe

He only stopped taking meds during the Alien period as far as I know. After his time with SYL he got over his problems and he doesn't take meds anymore.

  27. kingfullmetal

Yep, from what I've read, he even went so far as to stop taking his meds when he was trying to make albums.

  28. iseeu1980

Hehe, those are my favourites too, and also "Voices in the fan". But I don't find any of them depressing in that I don't feel worse when I listening to them. We all have different emotions going on in our lives. Wouldn't you like a good artist to go through that spectrum? :) Also, remember that Devin suffers from bipolar disorder and has been very honest about that.

  29. kingfullmetal

Oh, man, "Life," "Night," "Regulator," and "Hide Nowhere" get me going SOOOO much. It seems to be his style to throw in at least one more depressing song on every album, though. "The Death of Music" and "Bastard" really get me in a depressed mood when I listen to them, so I tend to avoid them, now. Not sure if that's just me, or if that's kinda the general consensus. Probably just me...

  30. iseeu1980

I third that one. Some dude introduced "Life" to me at a party and the next day I was hooked on Ocean Machine.

  31. Corrina B

This whole song is just... Wow.

  32. ih8margarine

@kingfullmetal Totally man, I heard one of his songs from deconstruction and now I just can't get enough of him!

  33. kingfullmetal

@frindle8 Same here! I had never heard of him, but now he is probably my favorite artist to date!

  34. LmKzeroUNO

    CAZZO !!!!!

  35. Valerio

Known, into the unknown, seeking the unknown,
    into the unknown Depths!

  36. Ivan Borisenko

@StUaRtNeT He did a bit of Hetfield type of vocal here and there(like Suicide)... I think Dev has much bigger vocal range. Acoustically and stylistically.

  37. Alex Haddad

    love the chorus so much!

  38. Fyodorrrable

I always turn up the volume at 4:30 :D

  39. PessimisticMonday

Devin Townsend---One of the most underrated and underappreciated artists ever....

  40. Med Abdoun

    WHOZ BEHAIND DA DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOR!!!!

  41. secreticelandprod

@Disturbedrules94 i did, did you read mine? i'm not saying you made fun of either. i'm telling you A: don't feed the trolling kid, B: Korn is entirely different from DTB so don't say they are the brutal version of korn, and C: DT is better than Korn anyday =]

  42. secreticelandprod

@Disturbedrules94 more like the good version of wtf why are you feeding this kid anyway? korn is in a different league. entirely. Devin and Ziltoid poop on their heads anyday

  43. kylrathin

@CANOFSPAM9 INSERT HATE-FILLED VITRIOLIC FANBOY REJECTION HERE!!

  44. Paul Flanagan

@bign227 Well, this is just my opinion, but Corey Taylor is a sell-out bitch.

  45. Ruthless McDugal

@SaintPaul122 townsend iskickass but i wouldnt knack corey taylor...hes a phenomenal vocalist in his own right.

  46. Paul Flanagan

@Blade686 And I wasn't trying to be a dick. I'm just sayin man. I disagree with the whole "he sounds like Hetfield and Taylor" statement. To me, Devin Townsend sounds like Devin Townsend. And frankly, I think he blows both James Hetfield and Corey Taylor out of the water.

  47. Omer Assraf

@SaintPaul122 I just said it sounds like him.. god, i know Taylor eats dust from Townsend.

  48. Paul Flanagan

@Blade686 You're an extremely misguided young man. Corey Taylor doesn't even hold a candle to Devin Townsend.

  49. vonPickles

@Blade686 listen to the album Addicted! Blows away Hetfield's and Corey Taylor's vocals combined!

  50. Mollifier16616111

    @hier0phant TITTIES

  51. trippytrucker

    @Siisjoonperkele

I saw him at Bloodstock last weekend!!! He was amazing!! <3

  52. Omer Assraf

@mushrmhd6661 Oh c'mon, the singing in the verses is totally Corey Taylor, and the chorus is a little like Hetfield.

  53. Robert Percy

    @hier0phant Stop bible bashing!

  54. Hauntyourface

IM gonna see this band and Ziltoid the omniscient live at tuska festival in couple of days!!

  55. Shivering Pug

    WHO'S BEHIND THE DOOOOR!?!
    I'M BEHIND THE DOOOOOORRRRRRRR!!!!!

  56. Joe Curcuru

    John 3:36
He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

  57. Omer Assraf

I remember first listening to this song like 5 years ago, thinking this was some genius collaboration between Metallica and Corey Taylor... This is much better than that! Heavy Metal brilliance.

  58. ACEshredZ

Fuck yeah! Can't wait for a week from TODAY! Seeing Devin in a relatively small venue with great sound, it's going to be awesome.

  59. RadamentsLair

    This song... this freaking.. song!!

  60. Bluemagus

awesome Devin Townsend is a kick ass musician whether he's with or without strapping young lad
