Townes Van Zandt - When She Don't Need Me Lyrics

When she don't need me
It makes me crazy
She say rest easy
And it makes me lazy
But when she please me
She please me all night long

My friends are leavin'
She say don't worry
They're only leavin'
There is no parting
You will be lonely
I will be here with you

On the winds of darkness
The light is soring

And chains are bonded
Freedom is singing
Cling to the darkness
Until you've turned to song

The blues shall wash me
And sun shall dry me
The world will hide me
But she will find me
And when she find me
She will take me home

When she don't need me
It makes me crazy
She say rest easy
And it makes me lazy
But when she please me
She please me all night long

yeah, steve earle said it: townes is a better songwriter than dylan. but seriously: dylan's like a friggin' onion - layers and layers to hide behind - while townes stood there naked. try livin one of those and see what suits you. maybe come back with songs...

"And when she finds me...she will take me home."

  9. R.... B....

Well spoke. An injection of clarity and sanity in a a world of what opinions are like and who has them.

Yeah that story is bullshit. The guy who tells that story says it happened in 1966. That was a full 2 years before townes released his first album. Townes was barely on the scene at that point and I dont even think he wrote his first song "waitin around to die" even. I remember the special on the "be here to love me" dvd where the guy says that. The guy is just making up a better story for townes legacy. Like "he is was so cool, he told dylan to fuck off". Sorry to burst your bubble.

  11. A.... Z....

Those who can't create, only destroy. If you have nothing nice to say, then it better be good.

  12. m.... ....

Damn straight. Very well put. To hell with the bollocks. Amen.

  13. J.... B....

Dylan's sick of it an Townes is rollin' in his grave with all these childish comments on who's a better musician; an if you all actually listened/understood or better yet, rise above all your bullshit an recognize where their coming from/relating too/ or just open your Heart an feel, you'd realize they are equal as they have as well. The whirled in a grain of sand ewes; we don't teach the blind with sight:))) Quit looking...

  14. e.... ....

Why even compare? They're both great in their own right...one already has, and one will eventually leave a huge legacy of beautiful lyrics and melody.

  15. C.... T....

@enalazzydog true. listen to townes. especially the live albums....

  16. e.... ....

    @ctdraper2 honestly i didn't heard it but i think he's having a point,,but dylan is dylan..anyway,,

  17. C.... T....

@enalazzydog Actually Steve Earle said that.

  18. C.... T....

Hank Williams influenced both of them. And Jimmie Rodgers influenced him and ......

  19. e.... ....

@ctdraper2 yes but townes is more damaged and underground,,,

  20. I.... F....

dylan attempted to work with townes and townes told bob
    to fuck off.

    I.... F....

    sounds like you were there

  21. Z.... K....

Dude dylan influenced townes. Stop hating on him

  22. C.... T....

I too will stand on Bob Dylans coffee table in my cowboy boots and claim he is the greatest song writer....

    C.... T....

Charles Thomas Draper i don’t know who said that but it’s the funniest and deepest quote ever.
