Townes Van Zandt - Don't You Take It Too Bad Lyrics

Don't you take it too bad
If you're feelin' unlovin'
If you're feelin unfeelin'
If you're feelin' alone
Don't take it too bad

'cause it ain't you to blame, babe
Lord, it's just some kind of game made
Out of all of this living
That we got left to do

And if you go searchin'

For rhyme or for reason
Then you won't have the time
That it take just for talkin'
About the places you've been, babe
About the places you've seen, babe
And how soft the time flies
Past your window at night

And we just can't have that, girl
'cause it's a sad, lonesome, cold world
And a man need a woman just to stand by his side
And whisper sweet words in his ears about daydreams
And roses and playthings
And the sweetness of springtime
And the sound of the rain

In all my 'feelin' unfeelin' and unlovin'' I'm still feeling blessed to eventually run across his music. It's a gift and a surprise, I'd never expect to be endowed with. I have a feeling it's not a random thing to be introduced to his music and his story and serves some mysterious purpose that is still beyond of my comprehension.

From 1969-friends of mine had this album back then, and this is the first time i've heard it since around 1970.One of the first songs where Dobro knocked me out[i have no idea who played it].Townes[R.I.P.]wrote this as well as Pancho & Lefty.

  14. Friedrich Schmidt

    This song is so comforting.
I think this is what Townes was put on this earth for: to give solace.
But I don´t think he knew.

Him sitting in that kitchen makes me want to bake him a pie. After we'll go out to the cave where he can sing me his lullaby. I'll just shut out the world while the sound surrounds my soul, and sleep until the heaven's awake me, and I am made whole.

    Leo Metcalf

    woah. Awesome

  18. James Mckenny

Listening to this song---the tone reminds me of a song title 'Woman Walk In The Line' by Emmylou Harris. There is similarity...and if you go searching...

I went all the Way to N.Y. City on Broadway 101 (?) when the Office of Tomato Records used to Be in order to Buy All His Records in 1984 ... and they told me that the company moved to New Jersey ... Then on A Trip to California in March 1985 I Found Townes Van Zandt Records in a Store in Davis, CA ! I used to Sleep with his music back in late 70ties - early 80ties !!!
