Tori Amos - Precious Things Lyrics

So I ran faster
But it caught me here
Yes, my loyalties turned
Like my ankle
In the seventh grade
Running after Billy
Running after the rain

These precious things
Let them bleed
Let them wash away
These precious things
Let them break
Their hold of me

He said, "You're really an ugly girl
But I like the way you play."
And I died
But I thanked him
Can you believe that?
Sick, sick, holding on to his picture
Dressing up every day

I wanna smash the faces of those beautiful boys
Those Christian boys
So you can make me come
That doesn't make you Jesus

These precious things
Let them bleed
Let them wash away
These precious things
Let them break
Their hold of me

I remember, yes
In my peach party dress
No one dared
No one cared
To tell me where the pretty girls are

Those demigods
With their nine-inch nails
And little fascist panties
Tucked inside the heart
Of every nice girl

These precious things
Let them bleed
Let them wash away
These precious things
Let them break
Let them wash away

These, these precious things
Let them bleed now
Let them wash away
These, these precious things
Let them break
Their hold of me

Precious, precious

Tori Amos Precious Things Comments

I played this album for my daughter. She could not relate to it. I was (and am) so grateful, it brought me to tears. I understand all too well... my prayer is that she never will.

  3. M.... H....

My 3rd fave TA song after China and Winter

  4. C.... N....

I played this song so much the summer I came out at 19. (42 now) It just described my feelings perfectly.

  5. J.... G....

this song is very powerful. intense. from the beginning approach of the piano working it's way throughout. and the yearning and anger in her voice....amazing!

    J.... G....

Jeff Garcia - the song is about being raped. Yes, the emotions are extraordinarily powerful.

    J.... G....

yes, I am aware of this. that's why the song is emotionally powerful, not only is she singing from experience, but the way she expresses the words to this song with anger. simply AMAZING!

  6. L.... ....

The piano at the beginning at this song..my goodness. I can't hardly believe it's been over 2o years since this precious song was released. I was so proud to buy this CD at Sam Goody's..

This and Under the Pink are her best. I saw her on her Under the Pink Tour when I lived in Seattle. Amazing. Breathtaking. I was in the 2nd row center with a date and WOW Tori made me forget her I was mesmerized

I literally have listened to this song for 10+ years and I will never stop! This is so eerily beautiful and captivating! I did a dance to this song when I used to compete and I never understood the lyrics until now; I love it even more now.

    M.... T....

Melissa Sanchez I saw her in 1991 in York at the Barbican and her scream towards the end was frightening, she stared into the air and she seemed to forget that we were there. She was simply incredible that night.

  14. H.... B....

This song is about being a victim of sexual abuse. My daughter is the same age I was when I bought this album -14 - and she doesn't understand this song. That fact makes me cry, because I am so grateful. When I was her age, I knew all too well. Many thanks to Tori for being the voice for those of us who lived the same nightmare. ♡

    H.... B....

Heather Browning this song isn't about sexual abuse, her song Me and a Gun is.

  15. S.... ....

    you are all beautiful

  16. H.... M....

Tori Amos has a certain way with words and such a devastatingly beautiful voice. Mood instantly lifted

  17. E.... S....

I still can't believe she says seventh grade worst of my life ugh

    E.... S....

Mine too.. I hated the 7th grade.. so many things going on besides puberty. My family dynamics was a disaster.. I had to change schools because we moved.. I hated starting over and making new friends. "UGGh", is right. The 8th grade was much better.

  18. A.... H....

whenever i need a good cry, all i need is to listen to this song. thank you, Tori, for music and words that cradle me when i'm weak. 💜

  19. R.... -....

When I listen to this song, it reminds me about being the "ugly" girl...........the girl that get used by the beautiful boys while the pretty girls stay forever goddesses, pretending to be your friend, stabbing you in the back.......they don't get used in the same way......they are trophies, while the ugly girls are slaves. Both pretty men and women using and abusing the ones who fall for their tricks. Sounds really bitter, but if you listen to the lyrics, this is what I see and resonate with.

    R.... -....

I was the ugly guy. Geek. outcast. found solace in her music at the time.

    R.... -....

I only look pretty when I wear makeup. Some girls are just so.... perfect.

    R.... -....

Beauty is who you are and what you represent to the people you love and who love you in return.it is not seen it it felt and known..Be you is all you need to be

    R.... -....

I feel you, I was bullied by empty headed girls. That is why I love Ms Amos and Sarah Mclachlan for their honesty and the empowerment their music brings. xxx

    R.... -....

I was the pretty boy who wasn't capable of accepting light.
Conscious and full of doubt. Unable to trust. Relating to those who weren't.
Sensitive and Depressed. Wanting to fit, but unable. Wanting to die.
Is this why I feel Tori Amos?

  20. S.... O....

Anyone notice this song doesn't rhyme lol? It's such a raw and emotionally powerful song, it tells me of a young outcast girl (presumably Tori) who was often hurt by the incrowd, dabbled with a few of its members, and seeks vengeance on them and their cruel, hypocritical ways.

  21. S.... A....

Shes the fucking shit I've been listening sense I was 10.

  22. S.... S....

    I always liked tori amos

Try "sway" by Vanessa Carlton. You can tell Vanessa used this song as an influence

  27. s.... e....

Always likes the Plant wail in this song.

  28. J.... K....

I have so many memories that are tied to this song... Lots of dark ones but lots of great ones too.... That's the beauty of a TORI album

+kelly stone That so resonated with me when I was in college. Back in 1994, this was my anthem for when I came out of the closet. Will always be special to me for that reason.
