Tool - Descending Lyrics
Free fall through our midnight
This epilogue of our own fable
Heedless in our slumber
Floating nescient we free fall through this boundlessness
Falling isn't flying
Floating isn't infinite
Come our end suddenly
All hail our lethargy
Concede suddenly
To the quickened
Dissolution pray
Calling all to arms and order
Drifting through this boundlessness
This madness of our own making
Sound our dire reveille
Rouse all from our apathy
Lest we cease to be
Stir us from our
Wanton slumber
Mitigate our ruin
Call us all to arms and order
Sound the dread alarm through the primal body
Sound the reveille
To be or not to be
Rise
Stay the grand finale
Stay the reading of our
Swan song and epilogue
One drive to stay alive
Elementary. Muster every fiber
Mobilize
Stay alive
Stir us from our
Wanton slumber
Mitigate our ruin
Call us all to arms and order

Just when I think it cannot get any better, it does and then some. And not only throughout the song, but through each following listen.
I read an article where the author said Tool is the only band that you have to concentrate to listen to and they're right: I choose to be taken away by the music and the only responsibility during the ride is to hold on and focus on a sound that took the universe billions of years to align in this moment of time that we live in.
Beautifully fucks with your mind!
I don’t need drugs when I have TooL to listen to.
I could listen to this every day, pretty much I already do.
close your eyes and get into ………………….
Stay alive because there is so much good music to listen to
God damm I love this song so much :D
Makes me think of Neo in The Matrix when blind, when he could see figures of "light".
Or when he defies The Matrix and beats Agent Smith at the end of the first movie.
This notion... compressed in the song. The realization that it brings. This song brings realization.
Tool....
"Tool has slowed down too much"
Me: that's evolution & progressive art metal
That riff that starts at 2:58....money!
TOOL's A Perfect Circle to me smh modern day Pink Floyd
Best album they have made..hands down!
Listen to it on 1.75 speed ;)
1.5 good too.
This is OK but I prefer Tool's "Descending"
This is how music is suppose to sound!
\../bOmsOm\../
It's like they're trying to put you to sleep and give you really bad dreams :(
tool is the only band that teach us about life, science and evolution, so, in other. words tool=sience=evolution and also about the meaning of life
7:30 🔥😲
Best motivational song ever
Notice that Maynard's last line he sings is exactly at the half of the song. You can even see it on the timeline the marker exactly reaches the vertical line in O from Fear inOculum. And when you fold this image in half the TOOL logo at the top makes a syringe.
What is that amazing sound that Adam makes between 11:08 to 11:11? Is that the flanger, wah, or something else? Harmonic resonance? So amazing. The exact moment it kicks in is at 11:09 for a second
Still Listening in 2020!!!
Conveniently from my house to west Texas where I work is just enough time to listen to Lateralus, Ænima, 10,000 Days and this album all in one drive. Pretty much become a driving ritual at this point lol.
The greatest poet of the last century
Impressive but when is the next album?
Masterpiece <3

Incredible piece of Music! No words can describe this...
This is just a beautiful thing.
unglaublich. super gut
MOBILIZE, STAY ALIVE
When Moses parted the Red Sea, he looked over and asked Maynard, is that wide enough !!!!
STAY ALIVE is a message meant for everyone who is not an elite. Your very wealthy? STAY ALIVE..
Better learn more skills other than your one occupation.

Every time, after 5:50 to 6:35, i have to focus very hard to say to my body that it's okay to breathe again. Every time.
After that its just preparing you for not breathing from 10:32 and on.
Those last 3 minutes, for me, are more like a battle to not let my sphincters become their own boss. I can proudly say that, sometimes, I win the fight.
Greatest song I have ever heard....perhaps even the greatest song of all time. I am not kidding
Epic album
This song is epic
*_SOUND THE DREAD ALARM_*
*_THROUGH THE PRIMAL BODY_*
*_SOUND THE REVEILLE_*
*_TO BE OR NOT TO BE_*
It's just too good...
It's good until 5:16. Then it's absolutely epic. Then at 6:50 it becomes transcendent. We did an activity with our kids to come up with our 10 desert island songs (if we could only have 10 songs for the rest of our lives) and I forced myself to only take one from any artist, but deciding between this and Pneuma and Invincible and 46&2 and Third Eye... Maybe I could do a top 14?
We never went to space or the moon the only thing that will get you there is tool FACT
This is like the perfect final boss music! 💖💖💖👌👌👌🤘🤘🤘🙏🙏🙏
This song for me is fighting your demons. If you did confront it you'd be reduced to nothing except the naked truth, which is the battle, your demon that could be you, a trauma that falsely guided you, or an outside force.
I agree with Fantano on this song. It's mediocre. The only thing that saves it is MJK vocals. The second half of this song is the most uninspired piece of instrumental I've ever heard from Tool. Its actually unbelievable how disappointing it is. Sorry guys.
Del minuto 7:00 al 13:39...es algo fuera de éste mundo...👏👏👏👏🤘🖤🤘🖤
feels underwater sometimes when he sing
Descending is a better song than Invincible.
Did anyone else want to look up the lyrics, and then bust out the dictionary for some of the words MJK uses? 😆😆
well at least you are reading more - good on ya!
7:03 - 9:54 It gives me an intense chill in the body with this part, this is magic
I will never forget listening to this for the first time on the highway in Nevada after enjoying a unforgettable adventure at Burning Man. I missed the Tool Party but I did Alex Grey and chatted with him!
There is Picasso in Art and there's TOOL in music Art...AMAZINGLY DONE...congrats TOOL BAND
#ФредгитаристНасралВШтаны (фрагмент с 10:33)
I just bought the physical..
My cd player in my car is broken.
My ps4 wont play it..
But I'm still happy.
ow wonderful song <3
CEO of sound says:
Every song in this album was my favorite at one point, well maybe except mockingbeat.
Just watched them live here in Dallas Tx last night and holy fuck !!!! Best fucking experience I ever witness they were fucking great .... I had to come back to YouTube for more TOOL !!! Can't get enough !!!
For further context read the book "Ishmael"... The lyric "Falling isn't flying" is literally the core concept of the book... Plus there is a telepathic gorilla.
Sometimes you forget how amazing some Tool songs are because they come right after other Tool songs.
Listen to a rock station for 20 minutes or so. Absorb the music. Then play Descending right after. This band is so awesome at what they do, they make other really good bands seem very ordinary.
Mayn & Tool, plz do a collab with Opeth. Plox plox plox plox plox plox plox
This album is pretty sweet. Enjoying this and the new Opeth album (In Cauda Venenum) these past couple of months... So pleased with both. So good.
I don't know if I appreciate the same keyboard pads from reflection being used here...
5:55 best part
That moment when you look at the bar and its almost full :(
Then touch the screen and see 2.5 min left :D
A Shakesperian elegy. Much like the title the entire feeling this song gives you, is being immersed into an ocean of feeling. The bass line feels like a submarine trolling along deeper into the abyss. Maynards voice has the effect of singing under water at first, then comes the clarity, like he’s surfacing. The more you look at songs as an entire piece of work the more you unlock with the storytelling and that’s certainly what needs to be understood about this band. Perhaps the clearest moment is when you can feel the buildup with Maynard seemingly begging, “Sound the dread alarm, through our primal body. Sound the reveille, to be or not to be. Rise!”
While much of the interpretation of the lyrics can be widely seen as subjective, what Tool typically implements is layers like an onion. It can be as simple as the surface or you can keep peeling them back. Personally I feel this song is a message from a satirical element of how far we’ve descended from what it means to be a compassionate human being. The wake up call is “elementary” but we choose to dive deeper into all the materialistic, social-media social-problems, fake attention, short attention driven mindsets. The message is conveyed in such a brilliant way.
Oh Wow!! I think this is the most epic AND logic explanation of this masterpiece.
Your songs are so cool
👇🏿
I think its first time that this years someone releases not only material as good as the old one but better.
This is a masterpiece.
Damn the riffs in this song are strong, goosebumps is an understatement.
This is going to sound weird but this song made me really anxious and I find that weird
05:28 !!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWW
Holy shit. Justin Chancellor is just booming and comic. Adam Jones is holy, his solo is fucking heavenly. Danny Carey is just himself, no need. Maynard adds the perfection to this song. So beautiful, transcendent.
Yeeeeeeea
Perfection. The whole album. At 10:34 I have to stop what I'm doing and just listen and enjoy.
Listened to this album once and forgot about it. Then I got high, and this song came on through my playlist, did I mention I was high? Can't stop listening now, sober or not.
Is it "call us all to arms in order" ?? Why are so many people posting the wrong lyrics I think I finally hear it clearly its call us to arms in order....like as an army or is it call us arms to an order? 6:46

Trick is to play it LOUD!!
Like many others have mentioned after 1st listen I was thinking it's got something I like but on the whole it's OK it might grow on me. After another 2 times after playing it in my car while driving alone. Thinking this is growing on me. After just 5 listens thinking this is one of the best songs I've ever heard in my 50 years.

5:54 - 12:50 is some of the best music I have ever heard in my life
Somewhere out there, theres 1000 douchebags with horrible taste in music who thought this song was trash. Hate to see what their iPods look like..
Fuck yeah
Don't care what anyone says, this song is epic
So there have never been to many full "bodies of work" that i have ever been able to listen to 100 percent. Tool makes up 2/3s of them for sure. This entire album is a masterpiece and I will be listening to it for the rest of my life. Thanks guys I cannot wait to see you all in concert.
Listening this song has brought tear into my eyes. How can human beings create such a beautiful thing. Amazing. Simply Amazing.
Who said they human, lol. Sure makes you wonder.
Ilove this son g if you guys lkike tool listen to my band we have three allbums that are just as good sas tool
Does anybody hear lateralus riff backwards
Like they where spiraling out when they where young and now they are descending Like their journeys coming to an end
Just my opinion
This song explains our new USA they need to heed our warning!!! Yes they do.
