Tony Orlando & Dawn Look In My Eyes Pretty Woman Comments
  1. s.... ....

Ushered in the disco era? This was a throwback to the original Dawn sound that came out after the ragtime "Yellow Ribbon"/"Gypsy Rose" period. The beginning of the verse sounds almost exactly like "Candida"'s verse. And if you're not convinced that this was a tip of the hat to their old sound, the record company surely was. Because the Greatest Hits album was arranged chronologically, except they put this song BEFORE "Yellow Ribbon" along with the first series of hits - "Knock Three Times", "Summer Sand", etc. I loved that they did that!

    GREAT song

Tony Orlando and Dawn had a successful run on the UK charts but it ended in 1974.

  4. l.... l....

Top 40 music in the 1970's had so much substance ......

I am a fan of Tony Orlando and Dawn. Please post more and more songs, Music Mike's, okay?

    R.... S....

Roy Sanders Tony Orlando is a great singer and the recordings he did in the 70s with Dawn were classic pop! When i first heard Candida in 1970 i was hooked!

LOVE ALL THESE OLD RECORDS THANKS FOR PLAYING THEM

  7. A.... B....

Purchased this single as a teenager.  Love it.  Reached #11 on Billboard's Hot 100.

  8. s.... ....

It was kind of disco-like eh? I like "Morning Beautiful" somewhat better...

    s.... ....

    Not disco at all

Hey Music Mike, how do you get that compressed radio sound from your records? Or is that how the vinyl sounds? Are you using a compressor? If so what settings?

    E.... V....

@Eric Blair There's definitely a lot of processing done here from the original vinyl sound. The highs and lows are boosted and yes, there is compression which comes at the price of dynamics, but gives that "radio" sound to help keep the listener engaged. Back in my radio days this was achieved with an Optimod unit which was the last in line before the microwave transmitter transmitted to the main transmitter. Since I grew up loving radio so much and eventually worked many years in radio, this is the sound I've grown accustomed to. If you want to do this to some of your MP3s there is a program called MP3Doctor Pro2 which yields good results, but does cost (not a lot) and has a trial version.

@JRobert111111 I worked in the studio back in the 80s so I know a tiny bit about radio. As I understand it, the compression was necessary to keep the signal withing FCC specs? Anyway, any clue as to what settings I would put on my compressor to fake the Optimod unit? It was probably a tube unit so it will never sound as good. I will experiment in Soundforge with it a bit, thanks for your expert opinion :)

    E.... V....

@Eric Blair I've never used nor seen Soundforge. I use Magix Audio Cleaning Lab when I record. But for the most effective compression with good results and minimal effort after the MP3 file is complete is with MP3 DoctorPro2. Magix has a lot of compression options that seem a bit daunting to me.

Hey Music Mike, Would you put up the Tony Orlando and Dawn song they did in 1976 "Midnight Love Affair" It was such a wonderful song! Tony Orlando & Joyce Vincent are sharing leads in that song. It became a single in 1976! I just love this group!

  13. D.... D....

Curiously, "Look In My Eyes Pretty Woman" never appeared on any music survey issued by WCFL or even by rival WLS !

    D.... D....

That is interesting. Thanks for the info.

It's probably one of Dawn's better songs even if it's not well remembered.

  16. d.... h....

  19. J.... C....

Hey don't forget Pam Vincent Joyce's sister. Pam was on all there recordings and she did all of the background vocals and vocal arrangements... I love these ladies... I love the group...

  20. D.... ....

    GREAT TUNE!!

  21. C.... ....

Ah, Bell Records! I believe this was the very last singles release on Bell before the switch to Arista in 1975 (which was also discontinued in 2011). By the way, great song! Tony Orlando & Dawn were one superbly unique vocal trio!

    Bravo, Tony, Telma & Joyce!

    C.... ....

Don't forget Joyce's sister Pam, who sang on the records and did most of the vocal arrangements. She was the "invisible" member of Dawn.

  22. J.... ....

Morning Beautiful is a wonderful song!

  23. M.... "....

Let me review it and I'll see what I can do.

  24. D.... C....

Mike, I'd like you to feature another overlooked Tony Orlando song: "Morning Beautiful", a # 12 hit from 1975. Today's "oldies" stations have ignored this one long enough!

  25. K.... K....

Very nice touch...with the radio call letters ...Mike !
    Very classy !

  26. A.... L....

    I like this, always.
