Tony Bennett - Sophisticated Lady Lyrics
They say into
Your early life
Romance came
And in this heart
Of yours
A flame
That flickered
One day
And died away
Then
With disillusion
Deep in your eyes
You learned
That fools in love
The years
Have changed you
Somehow
I see you now
Smoking, drinking
Never thinking
Of tomorrow
Nonchalant
Diamonds shining
Dancing, dining
With some man
In a restaurant
Is that all
You really want?
No
Sophisticated lady
I know
You miss the love
You lost long ago
And when nobody
Is nigh you cry
Is that all
You really want?
No
Sophisticated lady
I know
You miss the heart
You lost long ago
And when nobody
Is nigh you cry

91 fucking years old and he still sooooo dope <3
He still got it!
I kept hoping Lady Gaga was singing on this one too she has a great voice and how wonderful she is now singing/recording more than the pop-drek. Much as I applaud Tony Bennett for supporting talent with his duets and keeping the spotlight on the great songs in the 'standards' catalog, I wish he wouldn't sing songs like this anymore. In Cheek to Cheek he kept within his range but this song is just a wreck much in the same tradition of Frank Sinatra continuing to sing long after his voice went. Voices age, that is why opera singers retire. I have the albums of the singers Bennet, Sinatra, Torme, Fitzgerald. Torme and Fitzgerald at least allowed for the transformation of their voices and changed how and what they sang to accommodate aging vocal chords.
+The Garden Visitor Well, you don't have to listen. We should all be half as good at anything as he is at his age.
The Garden Visitor
Nope, the authenticity, even at 88 years old, is irreplaceable
This song is not good, but if you hear him in other songs of this same album... He's still a great singer. Irreplaceable.
Agreed. Aging is a pest on about anything, including singing. But it also depends on the repertoire. And there are some singers who are marvelous, even improving, with age -- Alberta Hunter (RIP) is a case.
