Tony Bennett - My Foolish Heart Lyrics

The night is like a lovely tune
Beware, my foolish heart
How white, the ever constant moon
Take care, my foolish heart

There's a line between love and fascination
That's hard to see, on an evening such as this
For they both give the very same sensation
When you're lost in the magic of a kiss

Her lips, are much too close to mine
Beware, my foolish heart
But should our eager lips combine
Then let the fire start

For this time, it isn't fascination
Or a dream that will fade and fall apart
It's love this time, it's love my foolish heart
My foolish heart

For this time, it isn't fascination
Or a dream that will fade and fall apart
It's love this time, it's love my foolish heart

My foolish heart
My foolish heart
Poor foolish heart

One of my favorites. An absolute classic. The very definition of beauty in music.

  4. C.... B....

One of the great piano/ voice combinations: Two legendary performers. Unfortunately , Bill Evans left us some years ago. Tony is still alive and performing.

    my favorite version.

    M.... A....

the best is the version live on youtube of Curtis Stigers ! for me !

  17. S.... D....

Mind boggling ending. Evans plays 7 chords while Bennett holds one note. (Not that the whole piece isn't amazing)

    S.... D....

That's actually not so difficult to do. You just play descending chords until you reach the tonic.

    S.... D....

@Anotha Despy What struck me was that one note harmonizing with 7 chords. Intuitively, you kinda wouldn't think that possible. I guess some of them are passing chords. I think it ends on the relative minor of the tonic, not the tonic, btw 😉

    S.... D....

spareplanet spareplanet no it is the tonic, Bb7+6, also, if know what youre listening for you can hear the dominant pedal being present in all the “leaps” made by evans. It is even easier then that actually as evans has a descending aeolian melodic line thus making resolving even simpler. This is cheesecake for evans, listen to his solo improvs to completely blow your mind. Check out “all the things you are”

This has to be my favorite love song. It is extra special with Tony Bennett singing and accompanied by Bill Evans. I can hear the "smile" in Tony Bennett's voice as he sings this amazing song. Are there any better two great musicians to perform this song together? I think not ...

    M.... P....

    Agree with you totally

Carol Sloane also did an outstanding recording of this song in the 1980s, and of Little Jimmy Scott's is gut-wrenching.

Gorgeous. And probably from Tony Bennett's best album, which is saying a lot. Thanks for posting.
