Tom T. Hall - I Washed My Face In The Morning Dew Lyrics
The first strange town I was ever in
The county was hangin' a man
Nobody cared if he lived or died
And I just didn't understand
So I washed my face in the morning dew
Bathed my soul in the sun
Washed my face in the morning dew
And kept on movin' along
The second strange town I was in
They were laughing at a poor crippled man
Begging for nickels and dimes on the street
And I just didn't understand
The third strange town that I was in
Was settled, peaceful and nice
The rich got richer and the poor got poorer
And to me it just didn't seem right
[Chorus]
Some day things are bound to change
It can't be very far
And each injustice I have seen
Will come before the bar
Then I'll wash my face in the morning dew
Bathe my soul in the sun
Wash my face in the morning dew
And keep on movin' along

Tom T. Hall I Washed My Face In The Morning Dew Comments
I remember my dad singing and whistling this song. We later got his Greatest Hits Album - the whole family was hooked. Greatest Storyteller
Not as long as we can listen to him sing, country music lives as long as we can hear it. I love it and I wouldn't want to live without it. That's not to say that don't want Tom T. Hall to live forever.
Tom Hall’s book, “The Storyteller’s Nashville” brought me here.
Sure dont make music like this anymore! (At least not that ive found . . .)
I was looking for an ad that came on YouTube and I accidentally clicked on this. I am not disappointed this is a great song.
Sure makes me miss my folks..I am thankful they taught me about great music
I love his music!
The rich got richer and the poor got poorer and to me it didn't seem right......
When Tom dies so will true country music.
You said "The song deserves some exposure" You are so right. These same injustices are being seen today. I am learning this to sing at the jams I attend.
The Storyteller's first single as a recording artist
LOVE THIS SONG GOOD RYTHUM
Nice post. Thanks for sharing. If there could be a little known classic, it would be this one by the old Storyteller.
