There are many great artists but Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers carry their water for sure. I had a cassette of his called "Southern Voice" Have no idea where it went but as far as I can tell it must have been a "one off" or something. Seems it never existed(but it did).

I loved Tom petty grew up rocking to him rip my gifted artist you'll truly be missed.

This exemplifies the true and genuine genius of Tom Petty. Not one of his more well known songs, yet written from the heart and evoking powerful emotions. It's power evident in the wonderful memories and feelings that are felt,no matter where you grew up. Americana at its finest. I have spoken with fans of his music from Arizona,Ohio, Florida,the Carolinas and even New York city and they all say the same thing. I live in Detroit and sometimes I get on I-75 and head south out to the country to clear my head. When I get to the farmland, it's Tom Petty's song that pop into my head. It's been that way for nearly 40 years. What a legacy! Miss him terribly.

I wish by some miracle it was a mistake, or a communication breakdown. A lot of confusion. Well, here's something I *can* clear up some confusion about. One night ages ago, I was driving somewhere with Corlis, one of my girlfriends, and the song "Runaway Train" by Soul Asylum came on the car radio. She said to me all along she had thought the song was recorded by Tom Petty. I wasn't thinking of the Soul Asylum song's title, so it didn't occur to me why she thought that. Some time later, I saw that a bunch of people had commented the same thing under a Youtube of the SA song, that they always thought it was Tom Petty, and suddenly a light went on. There IS a Tom Petty song, not obscure but not much airplay, on "Let Me Up, I've Had Enough" titled "Runaway Trains". Trains, plural. I'm so thankful for Tom's music, starting with "Damn the Torpedos" and all the way through. I think my favorite song of his is "Runaway trains" I've been playing it for hours. I had the good fortune of seeing him in concert a couple of times and was struck by his obvious deep connection to the music as well as his high energy. Love him, love him, love him! The world is better for having his music!

Holy hell this one hurts

I bought this album on cassette when I was probably 10 years old and it changed my life. One of my favorite Petty songs ever, and yes it does hurt. There's so much feeling and beauty in this song.

I thought I heard every Petty song, but I just discovered this on Tom Petty Radio this morning as they were announcing his death.  I am heartbroken, I can't believe I will never hear this wonderful artist in concert again.  I have some great memories, though, that I will hold close to my heart forever.  RIP Tom Petty.  You will be truly missed.
