It's crazy that a lot of people in the class room is accurate to the people I had in my class. Being raised in a small town in Illinois with a majority of left leaning people is hard. He addresses the fact that racism still exists in the song, and that there are still oppressive obstacles that other races have to face in America. But he's saying that it's not right to judge someone by the color of their skin -including white people- and just assume that they're racist, or part of the problem. The real problem isn't average white Joes walking around, but former systems of oppression that have left other races to face more hardships today, and of course actual racists. Most people don't care what other races are doing, so why should they be painted as enemies? And, on the victim aspect, is anyone that speaks out about societal issues using the victim card to you? You're allowed to talk about personal issues or larger societal issues without being the victim. If that's your view, then do you also see social reformers, civil rights activists, gay rights, or women's rights activists as just whiney victims?
