Tom Jones - Can't Stop Loving You Lyrics

I watch the leaves falling to the ground
I'm walking up and down
The streets of my hometown
You're here with me like it used to be
I look around and then I'm on my own again

Can't stop loving you
Can't stop wanting you
Can't stop now that you
Made me part of you
I've heard some people say
I'm dreaming my life away
But what else can I do
Can't stop loving you

Your face I see in my memory
I close my eyes and then
I start to live again
You're holding me like it used to be
I open my eyes and then
I'm on my own again

Can't stop loving you
Can't stop wanting you
Can't stop now that you
Made me part of you
I've heard some people say
I'm dreaming my life away
But what else can I do
Can't stop loving you

Can't stop loving you
Can't stop wanting you
Can't stop feeling blue
Can't stop loving you
I can't stop loving you
Oh I can't I can't I can't.......

  34. H.... H....

    Well I guess according to these comments, Elvis was simply shoved to the back seat.

    H.... H....

    @Humphrey Hogan
    Well Elvis is a different kettle of. You've gone into a lot more of the - shall we say -classy singers than I have. For judging or appreciating Elvis you certainly need to adopt different Criteria from those you use when listening to the above that you listed! 😁

    H.... H....

    @Trevor Morris

    K. Then on the real side, It's all subjective. It's not a matter of using various yard sticks to have thing for a certain singer or whether they are good, like used at Julliard for acceptance. It's just he doesn't appeal to me. That's the nature of pop music. There may be some artist that I love you may not have any taste for and that's ok, at least by me it is. Different strokes for dif f..." you know how the saying goes, and Elvis just don't stroke me like he does you and others. And I know I'm using one genre, rock and roll, on another, jazz, to be fair, but doesn't make any difference. Once again this is pop music we're speaking of and criteria in this realm is all subjective and personal. It's either you like it or don't on first listening, usually. Not saying Elvis is bad to me, but I'd rather listening to say Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers, "Last kiss" than Elvis and his "Hound Dog" hit. That's all.

    H.... H....

    @Humphrey Hogan
    Ultimately you're right, of course, We listen to what we like. I at any rate try to analyse what I like or dislike various singers and songs, a weakness of mine perhaps. Some criteria are reasonably objective, like whether a singer can sing on pitch and sing notes reasonably cleanly. But these don't necessarily apply across the board anyway. You would never expect a pop singer or jazz singer to have the technique of a trained opera singer who could never make a career in that field without excellent technique, voice control, breath control and other things I know nothing about. Such criteria hardly apply to Jazz and Pop. Nor does it ultimately matter.
    However, I suppose I'll still go on trying to analyse my likes and dislikes, occasionally arguing with other people's opinions. Only if they're wrong, of course!!! And people at times do say ridiculous things about singers, stating opinions as incontrovertible facts or or having actial facts wrong.
    It keeps my mind at least half-active nowadays However, something must have gone wrong on this thread because we're not actually arguing. 😁👍

    H.... H....

    @Trevor Morris

    :)

    No. It's going fine. Nothing's gone amiss. Yeah pop singing is music having a much different in sound, style, and rules vs a classical trained singer. A classical soprano or baritone will just blast away the pop ones. Just absolutely Destroy them, put them side by side! All Pop singers got to do is just sound good and stay on key with the music being played to the ordinary listener to make and keep making good money. No training necessary. Just have enough natural talent from the getgo to make a hit with the People. Whereas the Classical counterparts have to go through years of hard formal rigorous training, to merit the right for professional status, way down the road in wait, to a more educated, more cultured audience. Much more complex indeed. So yeah that field involves way more objective standards to meet to make the stage of the London Royal Symphony, than say that of KEARTH 101 FM radio LA - the oldies station there, or use to be. Anyhow, I like Toni Braxton (my fav pop contralto) over Witney Houston, or better yet Sade (on account of her brand of cosmopolitan jazz and laid back mellow delivery). Now some folks will argue and cuss me out in throwing a nose-bleeding hissy fit for Daring to prefer these two women over Whitney. (I suppose becuse she's acquired more Universal appeal and done some movies). Man, whatever. It's all subjective in this arena. So it's no [smh eyeroll], big hairy deal. Whitney, although gone, will keep making money regardless of what I think of her, so where's the beef?

    Anyhow... yeah.

    :)

    H.... H....

    @Humphrey Hogan
    I think a lot of very good (relatively speaking) pop and even jazz singers have some training along the way although nothing remotely comparable to classical singers. However, some of them can do things no classically trained singer could. Ella Fitzgerald is the singer who immediately comes to mind. Haley Reinhart is a modern talented singer with very unusual range of tonal colours in her voice that many classical singers would probably not be able to do. I know someone formerly involved in the Scottish Scottish studies who does quite of folk singing. She was having classical training but said she decided to stop it because if sh.e'd continued she wouldn't be able to sing folk songs the right way any longer. That's always intrigued me.

    My comment about not becoming insulting, etc. comes hot on the heels of an argument I've been having about the relative merits of the current Mazda advert song Dreams sung by Haley Reinhart and the Cranberries' version. He not only disliked it but was very disparaging about her overall. Then he went on to talk about the unrestrained Celtic soul and how she was like a wild Celtic goddess. I chivvied him about that fanciful. I'm Welsh in origin on both my parents' sides, brought up in the Baptist chapel with a choir background and Welsh hymn singing, and for the last 50 + years have lived in Scotland, and even sung Gaelic songs in Gaelic so I felt quite justified in saying Ach, come off it. The argument degenerated from there on his side to a somewhat rude level. He doesna say that the Cranberries appeal to him (and they are Irish indeed) and make him feel that way about. It's definitely that wild Celtic thing and anyone who canna see it is, in polite terms, a complete idiot taken in by the Pop industry.
    As a matter of interest, do you like the Cranberries? I'd never heard of the before sot I listened to a few of their tracks but I wasna very taken. The popular songs people liked when they were young retain certain associations and many people have an affection for a lot of them. I'm sure that's why a lot of people disparage modern covers of songs they loved as teenagers. Haley Reinhart's version of Creep with Postmodern Jukebox is an example. Overall it's been well-received and is very different from the original and any other covers before hers. However, some people go on about the proper meaning of the song and how she has it all wrong; she's only singing to show off her vocal tricks, etc.;she should concentrate on the emotion; etc. Probably half of the complainers dislike the backing as well because it's a jazz backing. She sings it very dramatically and emotionally, but I think the fact that she's so dramatic compared with Radiohead is why it's difficult for quite a few people to get their heads around. PMJ concentrate on covers of comparatively modern songs and give a vintage, usually jazzy, twist to them. Haley is completely at home with Jazz as well as Pop and Rock and Soul, and in fact she's probably the most popular vocalist who sings with them. There are also a number YT clips of her with big bands, including Jeff Goldblum and the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra. You should have a pleasant surprise with some of her songs, especially those with PMJ although there are others you probably won't like.

    This was the real singer but today singers are mickey mouse with auto-tune

    S.... W....

    Sonny Wolf
    To be fair, there are a number of good singers out there who don't use autotune. However, I agree that so much of the big-selling pop stuff is autotuned rubbish. The men, by and large, I don't listen to because they tend to have weak voices from what I've heard. Postmodern Jukebox, for instance, uses class singers, some of them like Haley Reinhart and Morgan James, for instance, are outstanding, and all the women are at least very good.
    Certainly there's nobody yet who can rival Tom Jones' voice, even though he's 79 now. You could tell with Ray Charles, Jerry Lee Lewis and Frank Sinatra for instance that their voices were failing on them for some years. Tom's hasna failed yet. I can understand a singer like Tony Bennett with his style of singing keeping his voice (which I never thought a remarkable one anyway) but a big, powerful voice like Tom's you would expect to show a lot of fading away and loss of range.
    My own voice has degraded a lot since I turned 70 (No, it never was like Tom's! I just sing in a local choir.) There's him at 79 almost the same as ever. If I didna get pleasure from still listening to him I'd complain that life wasna fair!
