Todd Rundgren - Chance For Us Lyrics

Too much water under a broken bridge
Evil words I couldn't bear
How much battery can a love endure
Before it turns into tears

Is there any life left in this love
Or should we move on and let it die?
But if there's still flame that I can fan
I'm gonna try
I'm gonna try one more time

Is there still a chance, a chance for us
Or has too much time gone by?
Is there still a chance, a chance for us
Or did the music die?

Can you bring back that sweet magic
After they show you it was just a trick
Can you bring back heart, can you bring back health
To a love that's grown so sick

Maybe we should face the bitter truth
Cut our losses and say goodbye
But if you think there's something we can save
I'm gonna try
I'm gonna try one more time

Is there still a chance, a chance for us
Or has too much time gone by?
Is there still a chance, a chance for us
Or did the music die?

Their music will never die. More importantly, even though their music had been changed, their types of music from then to now will live forever.

  12. J.... G....

    Awesome song!

  13. J.... G....

This song is literally 2 years old.

  14. a.... g....

Todd's voice breaks and no trouble, he pulls it out real coo - bet both guys should be standing to sing, though

  15. a.... g....

OK last 4 bars reveals yes that there is a backing track - and if Todd sat in the suite and mixed live sound & pix over the existing music (meaning lip-sync required, as much as possible on the filmed take) )then it's IMO totally legit - Same thing Todd has been doing since Midnight Special (with a Revox reel-to-reel?) and that crazy 1977 video All The Children Sing
Another intentional give-away is using both sax solo performances - Strickland gets quite close in the filmed take & thus the audio pullis out fo phase - a great effect I bet Todd enjoyed - if he didn't actually instruct it.

  16. C.... B....

Bobby has come a long way from forgetting to soak his reed on the Second Wind tour! Strong work, lads!! Great tune!

  17. T.... F....

Todd is the best! He is nominated for the 2019 R&R Hall Of Fame and he deserves to be in there! You can vote for him here: https://www.rockhall.com/fanvote

  41. d.... ....

this is just way to Awesome.Cannot stop listening to it11

  42. R.... P....

One of the most memorable shows I've ever played in my 40 plus years as a Drummer was at Sand Harbor Amphitheater, Lake Tahoe, NV. 1989. Our Horn section consisted of Bobby Strickland, Joel Edwards, and, Mike Rose. Unreal players, all of them.

  43. d.... ....

i have not stopped listening to this since the day I got!!!in my car 24/7.AWESOME!!!!

  44. D.... W....

I would like to offer a joke about all these senior citizens rocking out, but to reveal that I know these guys would betray that I, too am getting to be quite the geezer.

  45. d.... ....

I love this song. I also like the way they both move their hands as they sing.

  46. T.... F....

Great song! Too good to get radio play🙄

    T.... F....

Unfortunately true. They certainly can't air a song that has a melody and doesn't need auto-tune!

  47. G.... A....

    great Song and great band

  48. d.... ....

Cleopatra Records, please sign Utopia! Please!

  49. E.... T....

Just enough Bass line, moves it on , but you don't notice until it hooks you .

  52. d.... ....

I love this song! I wish Hall and Rundgren would make an entire album!

    d.... ....

Look up "War Babies", a 1974 album Hall - Oates - Rundgren.

    d.... ....

derbystardom That would be really cool. Do you recall a HnO album "War Babies"? If not, pull it up. Todd produced it. Many of his influences are there. '73 or 4 I think, not sure.

    d.... ....

Some of these "informal" sessions are good enough for most record companies to print.

  53. J.... M....

I'M loving WHITE KNIGHTS MORE AND MORE!!! lets do this!!!!

  54. J.... M....

How cool is this...think about the players and the song...How Cool..

  55. C.... M....

Where's the audio from the live version of this song?

  56. R.... L....

This is a great song, love the way Todd and Daryl feel their music.

  57. G.... T....

Some hands-down perfect R&B by two of the surviving and thriving East Coast masters. So glad to see these guys still cooking the chops.

  58. R.... W....

Fun fact - Greg Hawkes co-wrote the tune "Service With A Smile" along with Ron Riddle. It's a GREAT tune on the band Happy the Man's second album. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kr4T_zHlaqU

  59. M.... T....

    Just Great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    M.... T....

  63. R.... P....

Make America Great Again!!!!! Trump forever!!!!!!

    R.... P....

It would be lovely to keep political affiliations out of the musical appreciation commentary. It is unnecessary and offensive to many.

    R.... P....

Haha  Todd explicitly invited fellators of the orange taint weasel to not attend his concerts.

  64. S.... K....

    this sounds so good lol

  65. D.... L....

wow thank YOU for this upload...great

  66. J.... F....

This song -- and this whole album -- gets better with every listen. Rundgren's best since Hermit of Mink Hollow.

  67. G.... C....

Let's give Kasim some credit too.

    G.... C....

Kasim's backing vocals are always spot on, adding more depth to the sound. And he's so great on his own too... a talented multi-instrumentalist and vocalist. I can barely chew gum and walk at the same time...lol

    G.... C....

@ranatlas all true but the backing is on track so I dont think Kas had much input there.

  68. M.... C....

    Love this

  69. j.... a....

These amazing musicians/people continuously remind me why I love music and humankind so much!

  70. r.... ....

It's kinda funny how some of the guys seem to be poking fun at lip-synced videos... which this one seems to be. Except for the brief banter between Todd & Daryl ("Come on, Daryl!" / "Come on, do it!")). There's something weird about Bobby Strickland's sax solo, in this video... as though he's playing "live" over his solo that's on the CD? Or something like that. I admire his playing nonetheless. Anyway, it's nice to see everyone together in the same room, having a good time.

    r.... ....

I tried to compare the recorded version to this YouTube version and I thought it sounded very close. I will listen more closely to the part you mentioned, though, and perhaps I will change my mind! Thanks for letting me know. The "double sax" solo is mainly what let me to believe that this is a lip sync. It (Bobby's solo) just sounds strange to me - I can hear the recorded version plus another version, a split second from each other... unless the studio folks did some mixing or added a special effect or something. I agree with you about Daryl's voice - and I have to give Todd some credit too, for attempting to hit those high notes. Sometimes he gets there, and sometimes not. Two amazing guys. Who would have thought they would still be touring, writing, recording, etc., at the ages of 70 and almost 70? :-)

    r.... ....

This is a a low budget videoclip to promote the album, they all play along with the record, you hear Daryl sing without opening his mouth and the keyboarder also has bad timing and fingersetting. Nice song although the dull wow in the beginning could be more convincing sounds to obligate. But the whole record is TOP!

    r.... ....

Nancyjean24 I heard that as well. Always liked that about TR. Doesn't have to be perfect to be good.

    r.... ....

@Clichématic Thanks, that's more like what I was trying to say; that they were playing along with the record. The "double sax" solo in the middle is what gave it away for me, and later I noticed what you mentioned, re: a Daryl vocal and a keyboard part. But I totally agree - superb album, and I will add, superb tour! I was lucky/blessed to see two of the White Knight shows. Thanks so much for the upload, Cleopatra Records!

  71. B.... R....

To people from the west coast...these guys have SOUL from growing up in Philadelphia. Come east to understand this concept...

  72. R.... W....

    Kasim! Ripping the bass!!

    R.... W....

    Killing it!

  73. T.... ....

Very good. Maybe now with White Knight, Todd can rack up fans who normally don't follow his music. I didn't expect an album like it. Glad he did the collaboration route.

  74. t.... ....

fabulous.. Grace and Ashley are the BOMB!

  75. J.... M....

    Great video!!

  76. V.... ....

I really like the new album. This song is up there for my favorite song on it.

It reminds me a lot of the style on Nearly Human and Second Wind and THAT'S A GOOD THING! :)

  77. S.... S....

Prairie always has the cool shades!

  78. S.... S....

    Rock on Prairie!

    S.... S....

Don't like the name prairie prince, seems like I need to look for Michael Landon.

  79. D.... L....

Todd and Daryl have always been solid musicians and vocalists throughout their career. They also have that cool inspirational R&B/soul vibe from their hometown, where they both grew up. The back up vocals are also solid, along with the arrangements of this song. Great song that will stand the test of time, like many they both have created in their incredible careers. Cheers.

    D.... L....

couldn't have said it any better Daniel...CHEERS Brother!

    D.... L....

    Philly Soul!!

    D.... L....

It was one of the hits in the show. Saw it last night, and Todd really made it happen. For me, it's kind of a cross of I Saw the Light, and Love Of the Common Man, with some techno-instrumentation thrown in for good measure. Give "White Knight" about a dozen listens, and you'll be in love wit this.

    D.... L....

Todd is the best! He is nominated for the 2019 R&R Hall Of Fame and he deserves to be in there! You can vote for him here: https://www.rockhall.com/fanvote

    D.... ....

I get him three nights earlier in San Antonio!

    D.... ....

Jeff Flinn I just purchased my ticket. Row C. Super excited!

  82. R.... R....

    Nice to see Greg!

  83. R.... R....

Always love TR's expressions and cute faces !

  84. A.... ....

Good new music, guys! You mellow with age; but are still very talented and voices are great! Nice combo......good beat....

  85. T.... Z....

    Nice one TR!

  86. W.... B....

    My new "ear worm!"

  87. R.... ....

Great song! Will we get to see (hear) the actual performance in the future?

  88. D.... D....

    love this song!

  89. T.... J....

This song is great!! I hope he does it on the Ringo tour!!

    T.... J....

Right but Todd is doing it on his current tour - The Chivalrock Tour - and it sounds great live too. I'm seeing that show for the second time in South Bend, IN on 6/6.

  90. R.... ....

Dr. Todd and his fabulous band featuring Prairie Prince - drums, Kasim Sulton - bass, Greg Hawkes - keys, Jesse Gress - guitar, Bobby Strickland - sax, The Global Girls - backup vocals and Philly buddy Daryl Hall with a great cut from Todd's new album White Knight! A good feelin' Summery song. Nice!
