I read a great interview about this (no idea where now) from Johan... To paraphrase, essentially he was in a club somewhere and Brighter Than the Sun was playing and he'd never thought people would be dancing to Tiamat and his response as "what the hell is this, Im meant to be the lord of darkness and nihilism and sarcasm!" Then after Sept 11, he had a little epiphany that we he could die in a bombing at any moment and people would look back on his life and just remember him for being this miserable git that he always plays. Hence Vote for Love is saying "hey under all this I'm really a regular caring human being... and I can actually have fun too!"

Well Sabbath made technical Ecstasy and it had it's alright on it which is a very positive song Doom is fun but it can refresh a band very much to branch out once in a while as well as the listener.

"Judas Christ" was their most easy listening album by their own admission. The album was even divided in 4 parts to make the listening of the album even easier. I still like it.

My guess is they are fans of Sisters of Mercy and just want to try something different. Lucyfire it really shows. Deeper Kind of Slumber reminded me of Floyd and Voi Vod.

hmmm, one could say the same about you. your "used to be a good band" period was for about 2 albums, if you kept track of them, you'd know they revisited that period with Amanethes(album) and it was really good. if this song is so generic and forgettable, how come my favourite album is Sumerian Cry and I still sing this song's chorus every now and then? careful with opinions, they're called just that for a reason.

Agreed TIAMAT had built a mighty impressive catalog of phenomenal Albums through their history. Love every album every song. They have set the bar for all history. Rock gods....I consider them and 2 other bands to be my life blood of survival. The other two? Well I won't disrespect TIAMAT on this post. Hope for many more years of music for my soul. Sorry to ramble on but I can't help giving credit where credit is due.

Mind you, I honestly love their songs from "Clouds" and "Wildhoney", and consider it their golden age. But I accept their evolution and I enjoy all of their music, except maybe "Sumerian Cry" and whatever eardrum damage they've done before it.

Actually, I think they are still true to themselves. That doesn't mean they have to do everything their fans - or former fans, as it would seem - demand from them. They aren't some garage band playing covers in a bar; they play their own music and can do whatever they want with it. Whether they gain or lose fans because of their decisions is their own responsibility. So either quit whining and enjoy this song, or go feed your nostalgia with their older records.
