Thrice Words In The Water Comments
  1. L.... A....

Thrice is one of those few bands whom gettin better every albums they do! I love them more and more after years🧡🧡

  2. B.... ....

Such an incredible song. I had to do a piano rendition of this song, check it out if you'd like!

  3. J.... S....

"Wading waist deep I saw a book there in the river waiting for me to find it there."

For those looking for the words on that line.

  4. J.... E....

People, READ the lyrics- it is VERY CLEARLY stating that following the written word of man known as the Bible lead him nearly to his death and that he still sought to be saved. While Kensrue does indeed share a deep and profound love of Christ, there is more to religion than words on paper- personal interpretation can be a death sentence. It is only through accepting the help offered by others that we will make it through this life.

  5. A.... S....

One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard ❤️

Praise be to Thrice, they give beauty, insight, inspiration, and deep emotion to my life.

  8. B.... T....

This song speaks volumes to me. First, to my nephew whom I lost years ago and feel that he was robbed from me. Taken to a higher calling. And second to my father, whom I lost days ago. And now I believe it's to relieve my aching heart. To rest. I would only hope so.

  9. D.... G....

there was honey on my lips? wtf kind of soft shit is this like cmon dude

  10. Q.... I....

    Beautiful

  11. C.... D....

Wow the lyrics “ sinking down deep in , cold water, heavy silence” like wow. Hits me so hard.

  12. G.... ....

The lyrics beginning at 4:17 have hit me like a ton of bricks. Wow.

  13. j.... ....

0:28 .... alright i give up im bored now

  14. P.... C....

Hey, just wanted to say keep doing what you're doing. You're music has reached me and given me peace. 'Accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can,' so to speak...
I wish you not the best, nor the worst, but tranquility in your hearts, thoughts, and actions.

  15. A.... Z....

I have listened to Thrice off and on since I was a teenager, and just love their music and lyrics more and more. I heard this song about a year ago and thought it was nice, but I didn't actually know what it was about. I woke up this morning with this song playing in my head. I immediately played it on YouTube to read the lyrics and realized it's biblical from some of the other comments. So I think God is trying to tell me to read Samuel. I haven't read the bible other than verses here and there. I am a Christian already, but I've been struggling with fear of death lately. I still need to finish reading about Saul and Paul, but I think God is trying to remind me the curse has already been lifted and not to worry because Grace already saved us, and if he can give Paul a new name we can have hope too 🙏
Maybe someone needed to hear my little story today 🤷‍♀️

    A.... Z....

    someone did indeed my friend
    much love-me

    A.... Z....

Amen! God loves you so much 😊

  16. M.... R....

I have a correction there, clearly the line is: "... wading waist deep, I saw a book there in the river, waiting for me to find it there... "

to wade comes from the old english ver tō wadan, which means to move or travel. In modern english, at least, it is almost exclusively used for traveling through water by foot, usually up to the waist or the pits. "Wading" and "waiting" are pronounced the same in contemporary english, yes.

  17. b.... t....

Favorite song from the most underrated band ever

  18. C.... J....

This album gets so much undeserved hate...

  19. I.... D....

  21. K.... H....

This band is so good. Underrated as hell. This song is one of the most beautiful pieces I have ever heard or will hear in my life! Always light to behold, just have to open our eyes and see it. Mad love to anyone listening to this. I truly hope your doing good! God bless!

  22. R.... K....

  23. M.... K....

I had it loud, lyrics continued, made it louder, found myself turning it up more. Was i losing my hearing? No i was listening to words in the water! Beautiful creation.

  24. A.... S....

I'm lost for words really. It's unbelievable but I'll be the judge of this all. I don't think it's a curse but ok we'll see.

  25. r.... k....

  28. I.... t....

Started with Promises "but this, this puts a smile on my face..."

  29. R.... R....

Pray for me please demon of lust fights me every day

  30. B.... ....

I'm atheist and find this song so beautiful. Thank you Dustin.

  31. S.... M....

This song touches my soul, vibrates my bones, and gives me chills in a way i cant explain...BEAUTIFUL

    S.... M....

    Agreed ❤️

  32. P.... ....

For me this represents they moment I went from a Christian to a non-beliver. The book he talks about is the bible, and it drags people down to their grave while they are mesmerized by the words inside it, and once I was relieved of this illusion I was able to see reality around me and found light that it kept me from. I love the hell out of thrice.

    P.... ....

Yeah, many of the comments here are boiled down to “the lyrics are beautiful so it must be about the Bible” like the Bible is the only thing allowed to be beautiful.

    P.... ....

Colton Moore wow how did you get that from it not even close it's about about Jesus full filled the books demands taking the heavy burden off of us

    P.... ....

You are misinterpreting the lyrics.  This song is about the heavy demands of sin laid out in the Old Testament, and the salvation of Christ found in the New Testament.  notice in both the the first half of the song and the second half of the song Words rise from the page period in the first half he's condemned in the second half he is saved.  No one can force you to believe in Jesus, but I wish if you are going to turn away from Christianity that you wouldn't blame it on this song. I'm sure it would really hurt the person who wrote it deeply. Dustin is a Christian himself.

    P.... ....

    @Ina Pickle yup

  33. S.... M....

    NO WORDS!!!🤐

  34. J.... L....

October 9th 2017: the day I fell in love with Thrice and started my journey back to Christ.

    This song is powerful.

    J.... L....

even after losing my faith, these songs still mean something to me.

    J.... L....

May I ask what album or sing got you into it?

    J.... L....

100% atheist a great song is exactly that

  37. A.... A....

This is such a beautiful song.

  38. F.... T....

this song remains me to go home

  39. S.... ....

wow, I just randomly found this today. I'm so glad I did, this is gorgeous!

  40. C.... K....

    This song is just.... Perfect.

  41. S.... ....

This song explains the difference between the Old Testament and the New Testament. The burden and bitter twist that would lay him in his grave...Jesus changed all of that, he 'took the heavy book from his hands.'

    S.... ....

Skynx72 to your point, what if it is about the old testament vs the new, not only that; but what if this is a rendition of Saul's experience as he traditions to Paul? It just hit me, a finishing line in this song goes: "And like one receiving sight, I be held a brilliant light in the dark." This is very interesting since Saul was blinded but then became Paul, and simbollically would receive brilliant light (sight) in which he used to be in the dark with legalism and the old testament. In that he received sight from Jesus, HE ended up being the one to write MOST of the new testament! Whoa. So it definitely seems this is old testament vs new, not only that but could this be a parable? Wow. My mind is blown every time I sit and think about the implications of this song...

    S.... ....

No... it doesn't. But you won't understand it I guess till someone takes that heavy book off your hands and let you surface again...

    S.... ....

Not to mention the literal bitter twist of the spear that pierced Christ on the cross

  42. J.... T....

    Possibly my favorite Thrice song..

  43. D.... F....

Im far from a Christian but I love this song. I believe it represents the feeling of hope very well, being saved by someone or something you love after hitting rock bottom and losing it all.

    D.... F....

@Quill Inkwell I don't believe they have a strict Christian diet though, they have songs like Daedalus which is obviously about Daedalus and Icarus from the Ancient Greek mythos, also Beyond the Pines which refers to the pineal gland, a kind of chemical spirituality, not sure how you'd call that idea. I'm not of any religious persuasion but I appreciate their meaning. I was gonna toss this in the first comment but forgot lol. Take it easy, mang! Enjoy the music.

    D.... F....

@Ayo Trippin Nice one bro. Thanks. What do you think about all this healing frequencies music etc?

    D.... F....

When you finally die you might want to have known Christ..

    D.... F....

Quill Inkwell 432hz music is okay, but all the meditation beats that make you have out of body expriences (astral projection) opens up doors to demons, once you meat other beings and things that look like regular people and they start telling you they can help you leave your body easier and more often are demonic beings that are trying to take advanage of your body to help them get through to our realm, people call it "new age" and call the entities "spirite guides" when they are really wolves in sheeps clothing. Hope this helps you and opens your eyes. btw way im 17 and not some old "christian" trying to turn you too God but God will help you.

    D.... F....

@Glory To God Fuck are u talking about bro?... The demons and godliness are inside you. That's the whole purpose of life, which one you choose. We all carry darkness and light in our souls. It's spiritual it's not physical. I've battled both dude. That's a part of being a human in general. People have taken it to the physical realm but it's purely spiritual. Being a good person is something you take to the grave and you are remembered by it, meaning going to heaven. Man has warped the meaning over time. You want to find heaven and hell, just look inside of you. They are both there..

Woke them* learn to lyrics, god

    M.... M....

Got the lyrics from the CD booklet. They should all be correct. Apologies if they aren't!

    M.... M....

It's "woke then" buddy. If you read the lyrics in a complete sentence "woke them" wouldn't make any sense. "What things lay sleeping, down deep in the darkness, woke then to find me in my tomb." Think before you insult.

    M.... M....

    +mattcalproductions
    paraphrased in conversational context:

"What things are sleeping down deep, in the darkness? I then woke up, and found myself in my tomb."

Dustin isn't saying he woke the things that are down deep in the darkness, as he found himself in his tomb. He's asking what is down deep in the darkness, and progressing to being awoken in his tomb.

Dustin's official lyric print out for Words in the Water read, "woke then". I hope the context helps. cheers.

  48. B.... ....

Hey all! I did a piano cover of this song. Check it out if you'd love to hear this beautiful song on piano.

  49. D.... D....

I always wonder what this song is about. I feel its about a love story but there's this christian touch to it. Love it!!!

    D.... D....

Words in the Water is about reading those words in the Bible that condemn you, and reading all the other beautiful passages that comfort you. It is about feeling that condemnation and not knowing how to deal with it. The person that saves the writer from the weight of those words is Christ, who takes on our guilt and sins and counts us as new. It is a Christian metaphor.

    D.... D....

    I love it!

    D.... D....

Wow. You just gave me chills with that description, and I'm tearing up.

  50. B.... A....

Jesus fucking christ's ass. The hell is this, thirce?...

    B.... A....

I'm not expert on Thrice's music.  I've only listened to a few songs.  But it seems to me they have Christian messages in most of them.  This one, to me, seems like a person found the truth in the way he was living, that it was wrong and heavy burdened. (the book), and they wanted a way free from it.  By "dying" to his old life and living again in Jesus, they found it.

That, of course, is my interpretation.  Beauty of music is we can all have different ones :)

    B.... A....

Years later, I hope you've gone back and read the lyrics on the anthological work of Thrice to realize Thrice is and always has been a Christian band. Dustin was, during the Thrice hiatus, the music minister of Mars Hill Church. Their work has always had Christian parables throughout.

They've grown up and matured through a lot of the genres they played through their history, each lending itself to reflect their own walks of life and where they find themselves now, as opposed to being High School students while writing their first album.

All of their music has the same DNA, at the base level, of Christ influencing them and the lyrical message being delivered through their music. If you've ever been a Thrice fan, and ever heard then talk about their music or their lives, it's blatantly obvious if you don't know the words to their songs.

  51. D.... ....

The most underrated band of all time.

    D.... ....

    excellent point!

    D.... ....

    Still think that?

  52. J.... B....

I've been listening to Thrice since 2001 and this song is by far the best thing they have produced since the Artist in the Ambulance album in 2003. They may suck me back in just yet....

    J.... B....

Sometimes I feel like the only fan that didn't like their early stuff.

    J.... B....

@Ryan Fultz I'm With you, i'm not a big fan of the first two records, but everything from the Artist And The Ambulance onward I love.

    J.... B....

u have to appreciate it tho cuz they were young and a garage band filled with kids that had feelings. haha every time i go back to the first 2 albums im like...damn you guys were pissed at something or someone lol and thats the beauty of THRICE...they grew out of it and found structure and balance and now have made some amazing music

  53. E.... ....

I was just introduced to this band this week and I can't get enough of them!!!!

  54. M.... A....
