The 80’s... the music was awesome, the cars were bad. Smoking was cool, cardio was new. The CD was born, and computers made their way into living rooms for the first time ever. Musical performers were actual musicians.

  16. M.... I....

Funny how this band has such an important place in my life. I had broken up with my girlfriend a few months earlier and out of the blue she called me and asked if I would like to go to see the Thompson Twins with her. No strings attached. She had bought the tickets when we were together and never told me as it was to be a surprise. For some reason I agreed and we went together.
We have been married now for 29 years.
Every time I hear "Hold Me Now" I realize what an idiot I was.

Thank you Cathy. I love you so much for being smarter than me!

  17. s.... ....

On this day in 1985 {November 23rd} the Thompson Twins performed "Lay Your Hands On Me" on the Dick Clark ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program, 'American Bandstand'...
At the time "Lay Your Hands On Me" was in it's first of two weeks at position #6 on Billboard's Top 100 chart, #6 was also it's peak position on the chart, and it spent twenty weeks on the Top 100...
And on the same 'Bandstand' show they also performed "King for a Day", and four months later on March 16th, 1986 it reached #8 {for 1 week} on the Top 100...
Between 1982 and 1989 the Sheffield, England band had eleven records on the Top 100 chart, three made the Top 10...
Besides the above two records, their third Top 10 was "Hold Me Now", it peaked at #3 {for 2 weeks} in late April of 1984...
In their native England they charted nineteen times, five made the Top 10 with "You Take Me Up" being their biggest hit, it peaked at #2 {for 1 week} on April 15th, 1984, the week it was at #2, the #1 record for that week was "Hello" by Lionel Ritchie...

  19. P.... M....

Look at The Bad Ass Band. !!! Look at the audience and all those cool outfits !!!! That was a magical time. If anybody builds a time machine, I need a ride back to the Awesome 80s. Back in the day I used to drive around looking for Killer Weed ... now I drive around looking for Weed Killer SUX 👎... I wish it was 1985 again. I had so much fun and did the craziest shit and man do I have stories Lol !!!

  20. r.... ....

One of my favorite TT songs of all time. This is the version released as a single in the UK right before Christmas 84. Tom had a nervous breakdown soon after this. Nile Rodgers took over production of the album Future Days and added guitar rif and a gospel choir to Lay Your Hands On Me. The US version, with guitar/choir, was released Sept 85 and went to #5 on the US charts. I love both versions.

  21. J.... J....

Alannah currie.... a master piece playing marimba female artist 80's.

  28. B.... B....

My best friend of 40 years passed away earlier this year. We used to listen to this album constantly. I remember that guys in spandex and make-up would call us homosexuals for liking Thompson Twins. Of course, we were with their girlfriends while they were busy farming their hair. :)

  29. T.... ....

    And on piano, Molly Ringwald!

  30. K.... G....

And there's Molly Ringwald on the piano!

  31. C.... C....

This is one of the songs that makes me really miss the 80’s.

  32. M.... B....

    Oct. 2019 ?? 👍

  33. A.... P....

Hold Me Now may be a more recognizable song, but this has always been my favorite Thompson Twins' song.

  34. L.... A....

OMG that does really look like Molly Ringwald on piano

  35. M.... ....

    Long live the 80s

  36. L.... A....

  37. J.... M....

Who's the woman playing drums? When they went out on tour (the Revolution video) they had a guy drumming. Looks like she was the actual drummer for the song as she does a flawless job. Often times in videos if it's not the drummer who did it in studio it's not hard to tell.

  38. S.... S....

I can watch this over and over. This is real music.

  39. S.... P....

    Molly Ringwald on piano!

    S.... P....

    It's not.

    S.... P....

    @D Trattmann Is

    S.... P....

@SD Pints and you know this how?

    S.... P....

@D Trattmann Everyone knows this. It's common knowledge bro.

    S.... P....

@SD Pints We shot this video at the beginning of 1985 in London for the TT's first single from their new album 'Here's To Future Days', right around the time Molly Ringwald was busy promoting 'The Breakfast Club', which premiered in L.A. Feb 7, 1985. Ironically, despite all the lookalikes in the video, the keyboard player wasn't trying to look like Molly Ringwald. You'll also find her in the footage of the 'Into The Gap Live' concert.

  40. J.... E....

Dudes, I am from Guatemala and I remember listening to this song when I was going to High School. I just purchased Thompson Twins' greatest hits from Amazon and is like journeying back in time.

  41. W.... G....

Nothing compares ...nothing compares..... to you.

  42. C.... C....

Reminds me of my sweet and beautiful wife. Great song from when I was a kiddo!

  43. T.... R....

80s again, just when you thought you remembered all the greatness of the 80s, there is yet another song............and another...........and another.....................I feel like the 80s is likened to the sinking Titanic? We’re all playing music like the calm musicians knowing their impending demise. Cheers 🥂. We lived on the greatest “music titanic epoch” ever! Happy to share it with all of you.

  44. D.... ....

This song peaked at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 in late 1985

  45. L.... F....

    Fantasticos!!!

  46. A.... K....

    The U.K. version !!

  47. C.... O....

Anyone here in their late teens or early 20s don’t know anyone that likes to listen to Thompson twins at my age 😳

  48. E.... A....

The days of #MTV, #VH1, when music videos mattered!

  49. j.... s....

Parachute pants and Nike high tops those were the days

  50. L.... J....

I was 10, 11, 12... Thompson Twins were my first favorite band. First group whose cassettes and 45 singles I had to own. No mind that the critics REVILED them (« the three haircuts! ») what did I know. All these years later, arguments for and against « is pop music art » and nostalgia aside, this truly still is an astonishing song to me.

P.S. saw Joe Leeway in a supermarket in L.A. about 8–10 years ago, recognized him but couldn’t place him until I’d walked away. He popped his eyes and gave me a funny look... as if he maybe gets a little laugh out of that happening to him... « wait a second... I know you from somewhere deep in the recesses of my childhood memories BUT CAN’T FIGURE IT OUT» lol

  51. O.... ....

I saw them open for The Fixx and The Police in Tacoma WA. What an incredible triple bill!

  52. G.... S....

people should pay 💰 very large amounts for me to touch/heal them I am the most gifted that is and can ever possibly exist VIP I have The greatest healing abilities you can possibly imagine/conceive most VIP that ever been/ eexisted VIP quintessential quintillion guys like me are masters of dthe universe Lord of alll Lord Master of the trued hardcore not lardcore love The Man The One The Prince 👑 of all princes this is all an understatement

  65. J.... ....

Class of 1988. No facebook, no internet... just a metal wood grain cable box with mtv and 61 channels. And life was awesome.

  66. D.... C....

My high school music.....and yes you should be jealous of it!

  67. M.... E....

Having heard both this and the version that was released in the US, I can't understand why the US version was made. This is far better.

  68. b.... ....

    Weakest song by the TT.

  69. S.... C....

A better era than cruel, ugly, and devolved 2019.

  70. J.... A....

Espectacular canción me recuerda mi juventud muy buena

  71. G.... U....

Born in 1980. Kids today don't know anything about growing up in such a time. Shit was so simple and meaningful. Today's shit is str8 garbage, incoherent and meaningless

  72. D.... G....

Im 46 years old an am a rock/metal fan but this song kicks ass i love it!

  73. n.... ....

  75. K.... C....

I love how the people are dancing at the end of this song! Happy song! Love it!

Most enthusiastic tambourine since Davey Jones. They had a look, style and sound all their own.

  77. a.... ....

This song will live forever in the hearts of the old and new generations ♫ epic clasic!

  78. T.... S....

and don't tell me that the video producer didn't try to fake a Prince cameo at 3:31 in order to get people to watch MTV 247 in order to see this the fifth time to determine what they saw in that split second!

    T.... S....

    and boy George at 343

    T.... S....

They are ALL look-alikes. That's the whole point...

  79. T.... S....

I can't believe they got Molly Ringwald to play keys!

    T.... S....

I didn't even notice it was Molly Ringwald until you pointed it out

  80. T.... C....

No transgenders then nor all this wierd world we live in

  81. R.... T....

Wow , real words that make sense... Damn I miss the good music , thanks you for this post... I'm thinking of you Aoife

  82. L.... M....

I grew-up in the 80s. I'm not talking about being a child in the 80s, I grew-up as a person, in college, listening to the music, learning new ideas, and accepting a broad view of the world. Humanity has lost the hope, drive, and compassion of the 80s. Who's got the time machine? I wanna go back....

  83. 2.... 4....

The guys had better hair than most of the chicks.....loved it!!

  84. e.... h....

    To be honest
The british bands made the eighties

  85. A.... G....

  94. G.... G....

    Psalms 70:4

Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: and let such as love thy salvation say continually, Let God be magnified.

  95. J.... W....

Is it me but every song from the 80s, even the one hit wonders...were all good!

  96. M.... C....

I walked into a pub in Rochdale (The Reed) on Sunday 9 June 2019 & this was playing on an American retro jukebox with rude bass sound. I'm 57, so you can imagine how this jolted me.

  97. T.... B....

Even more than three decades later... Please lay your hands on me... :)

  98. J.... G....

Still sounds great in 2019 and beyond.
