Thompson, Richard - So Ben Mi Ch'a Bon Tempo Lyrics

So ben mi ch' a bon tempo
So ben mi ch' a bon tempo
La la la la...

Al so ma basta mo'
Al so ma basta mo'
La la la la...

So ben ch' e favorito
So ben ch' e favorito
La la la la...

Ahime, no' l posso dir
Ahime, no' l posso dir
La la la la...

O s'io potessi dire
O s'io potessi dire
La la la la...

Chi va, chi sta, chi vien
Chi va, chi sta, chi vien
La la la la...

La ti darà martello
La ti darà martello
La la la la...

Per farti disperar
Per farti disperar
La la la la...

So ben mi ch' a bon tempo
So ben mi ch' a bon tempo
La la la la...

Al so ma basta mo'
Al so ma basta mo'
La la la la...

Hats off to Mr. Richard Thompson, he's a genius!

  2. S.... R....

Everything is very good except prononciation, but nothing's catastrophic.

    S.... R....

Samoa Raimondo - do you know how medieval Italian was pronounced?

    S.... R....

Surely not english-like. And btw, it's not medieval.

    S.... R....

Samoa - you sound defensive - my question was genuine not sarcastic! I was going on RT's own words that the song is in Medieval Italian - colloquial Medieval Italian at that - lol! I thought you might be an historical linguist who knows how languages were spoken (I have an interest in Old and Middle English, and how accents etc. have changed but know nothing of any other languages)

For Maxx6792. Is he not divine? Mistress Bex

  4. L.... W....

Brilliant of course.Starts playing at 2:20

You should here this on the album. It's sublime. The whole album is awesome. The critics say it's his best one yet & ironically, in doing what he does he probably becomes more inaccessible to the listening public at large. So what. As long as we know about him.... Mistress Bex

  6. s.... ....

Shot himself in the foot hit-wise once again ;-)

  7. M.... ....

    Who needs a band,guitar wizard,nice 'Medieval sound,just like,Lutes,Lyres strung together,at a King or Queens courtier.Seriously gifted!

  8. m.... ....

Living legends can talk as much as they want--they've earned that much. Besides, RT happens to be both funny and charming.

  9. T.... ....

@Gitarre888 that guy is known for his onstage humour ;->

  10. l.... ....

I've seen a lot of videos of other versions of this song, and it's often sung by school choirs as a sort of academic exercise in part-singing: RT really restores the jeering, popular-music quality. You can imagine the local balladeer singing this down the tavern when some local stud (or local cuckold) walks in, to general hilarity. I love that sardonic guitar run he does at 2:40-2:42 (and the even more florid version at 4:00-4:03) to get back to the tonic.

  11. r.... ....

Anybody know what the tuning is on this?

  12. r.... ....

I got to tell ya Richard , that really sounded great....... but,

I could have used a little more Cow Bell.....

  13. R.... ....

    Bravo!!!

  14. T.... ....

    blackleg miner!

  15. D.... ....

    Elliptically smutty... lol!
