Thompson, Richard - Justice In The Streets Lyrics

There's sickness in this land
Hearts have turned to sand
Crushed with an iron hand
There's justice in the streets

They fooled you for so long
You can't tell right from wrong
They are weak and you are strong
There's justice in the streets

Sometimes it seems a man can't hold his head up
To be just what he is he feels ashamed
They take away his dignity and freedom
But they can never take away the flame

Tired of living in shame
Tired of a ball and chain
Run them down like a train
There's justice in the streets

They've got you chained to a wheel
'Til you don't know how to feel
'Til you can't tell what's real
There's justice in the streets

How can you fight a man without a shadow
How can you fight a face you've never seen
A drop of rain will run into a river
Oh see the river wash the valley clean

Thompson, Richard Justice In The Streets Comments

Wow...usually, when I read the comments section for any of RT's music that someone has been kind enough to post, it's almost like meeting old friends, but there's a skunk in the henhouse here...let's pay the worthless fuck no further mind, shall we? BTW, thanks for posting this...

So... the ex-hippie male (Richard Thompson) stares gormless into the distance on the front cover like a medieval Arab opium toker; while the ex-hippie female (Linda Thompson) stares straight ahead on the _back_ - equally gormless but perhaps pleading - like a medieval Arab subordinate. Like the rancid Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam saga, it’s another grim Orientalist example of the sheer darkness of where 60s and 70s me-me-me counter-culture could lead. In this particular pub-rock-with-accordion dirge about the joys of Muslim paradise, Thompson even states, in full-on Abrahamic sex-slave trading mode, that _"I'd trade my little sister"_ to get there. Did his particular brand of 'Sufi' Islamic hokum come with the 72 virgins Paradise entry prize? And I wonder what his little sister, or his subordinate ex-hippie wife, made of them apples.
    Or even raisins?*

    * _Confusion abounds between Muslim scholars about whether the "72 houri" (72 virgins) is better translated as 72 raisins._

@blackmore4 Careful, your agenda's showing. Your last comments in this drivel either reveal a massive amount of ignorance or a deliberate agenda of lies.

    @Bob Batty
No need for care or cover at all. Kicking sub-mediocre pub rock and those so self-obsessed and deluded that they end up joining anti basic human rights death cults is always a stroll in a very open park. I'd advise a little more care on your part though. If the next agenda you swallow is as toxic and mind-numbing as the one that's made you so totally oblivious, you may choke.

Agreed, Thompson has an asshole gene and he was cruel to Linda. But this song still kicks butt and Down Like Silver is my favorite Thompson CD.

@blackmore4 You are an ignorant self-opinionated bigot.......his or anyone else's religion has jackshit to do with you.

Yikes man. Nothing but ignorant raving hatred
