Thompson, Richard - Coyotes Lyrics
As a cowboy I knew in south Texas
His face was burnt deep by the sun
Part history
Part sage
Part Mexican
And he'd tell you a tale of the old days
When the country was wild all around
Sit out under the stars of the milky way
And listen while the coyotes howl
They go:
Woo
Yip
Whoo
Yip
Woo
Now the longhorns are gone
And the drovers are gone
The commanchees are gone
And the outlaws are gone
Gernomino's gone
And sandbass is gone
And the lion is gone
And the redwolf is gone
Well he cursed all the roads in the old land
And he cursed the automobile
Said this is no place for an hombre like I am
In this new world of asphalt and steel
Then he'd look off someplace in the distance
At something only he could see
He'd say all that's left now is the old days
Damned old coyotes and me
They'd go:
Woo
Yip
Whoo
Yip
Woo
Now the longhorns are gone
And the drovers are gone
The commanchees are gone
And the outlaws are gone
Now quantro's gone
San wantee is gone
And the lion is gone
And the redwolf is gone
One morning they searched his adobe
He disappeared without even word
But that night as the moon crossed the mountain
One more coyote was heard
And he'd go:
Woo
Yip
Whoo
Yip
Woo

Thompson, Richard Coyotes Comments
I had the singular pleasure of hearing Mr. Edwards song this song at a loft party in TriBeCa a few years ago. It was the most amazing thing, being in the heart of the fastest city in the world, and with the first notes of this song, everyone in attendance ( and some of these people were New Yorkers through and through!), became so quiet you could hear a pin drop. The song had taken us far, far away from the bustle of Manhattan and for just a few moments all of us were out of time, in a place where the country was still wild. Honestly, it was one of the more magical moments of my life. Thank you Mr. Edwards!
Y'know, this song honestly gives me chills - I thank you sincerely for uploading it here, as it's unlikely I would've ever heard it otherwise.
My friend brought me here .. and I'm happy for it
They can have all the coyotes!
*Grizzly man* 😢
Roger Clark (Arthur Morgan) sent me
And the Treadwell is gone
Tim Treadwell, his courage, pure soul and his beloved bears and their freedom. This is what I see every time when I'm listening to this song.
So many memories with this song
siempre tiene que haber alguien que piense diferente, pero en este caso, quienes son esos 24 notas que le dieron a dislike?!
great singing Don Edwards Has a great voice.
Grizzly Man 💗
I love the choice of background... what a perfect fit. The intro always gives me a nostalgic feeling, like in my childhood i'm looking outside at dusk, viewing the sunset and seeing my imaginations far away. I might have even imagined a coyote at one point.
tbf Poncho Villa and Sam Bass etc. would think Tim Treadwell - I suppose -
was a bit of silly fella.. Good heart, but bears don't care.
Arthur Morgan <3
Loved this song for years. Been playing Red Dead 2 for the first time and Arthur made me think of this song. I can picture him playing it around the camp fire; quietly, he knew the reality of his and Dutch’s dream. All that’s left of it is ‘damned old coyotes and we’.
Was a cowboy I knew in south Texas
His face was burnt deep by the sun
Part history, part sage, part Mexican
He was there when Pancho Villa was young
And he'd tell you a tale of the old days
When the country was wild all around
Sit out under the stars of the Milky Way
And listen while the coyotes howl
They go, boo-yip, boo-yip, boo
Boodi-boo-yip, boo-doo-yip, boo-doo
Boo-yip, boo-yip, boo
Boodi-boo-yip, boo-doo-yip, boo-doo
Now the longhorns are gone
And the drovers are gone
The Comanches are gone
And the outlaws are gone
Geronimo's gone
And Sam Bass is gone
And the lion is gone
And the red wolf is gone
Well he cursed all the roads and the oilmen
And he cursed the automobile
Said, "This is no place for an hombre like I am
In this new world of asphalt and steel."
Then he'd look off someplace in the distance
At something only he could see
He'd say, "All that's left now of the old days:
Those damned, old coyotes and me."
And they go, boo-yip, boo-yip, boo
Boodi-boo-yip, boo-doo-yip, boo-doo
Boo-yip, boo-yip, boo
Boodi-boo-yip, boo-doo-yip, boo-doo
Now the longhorns are gone
And the drovers are gone
The Comanches are gone
And the outlaws are gone
Now Quantrill is gone
Stand Watie is gone
And the lion is gone
And the red wolf is gone
One morning, they searched his adobe
He disappeared without even a word
But that night, as the moon crossed the mountain
One more coyote was heard
And he'd go, boo-yip, boo-yip, boo
Boodi-boo-yip, boo-doo-yip, boo-doo
Boo-yip, boo-yip, boo
Boodi-boo-yip, boo-doo-yip, boo-doo

This is the kind of song I'd love to hear in a Western film, particularly one about an aging gunslinger who has watched civilization come to the wild west.
I'd watch it.
Or in a game like Red Dead Redemption...1 or 2
No Country for Old Men

Cold chills every time.

Not to be mean but their well all ways be outlaws
the original "what does the fox say?"
Sweet song,,i just stumbled across watching some Tim Treadwell vids.
Grizzly Man brought me here. The thing with Tim Treadwell is that everyone loved him and he didn't have to die. He was a crazy son of bitch for what he did, and an asshole.
Chris Jones And what's your sorry ass accomplished in life....lol
@Russian Bot He isn't bear food.
@Mr. Dimentio lol
The World Is Getting Smaller-No More Open Spaces-So Sad :(
There are a ton of open spaces, it's just that our governments wants you to think we have a over crowding problem. That's because their crowding everyone in big cities. Take a trip across country and see how many huge open spaces there really is.
That isn't really true. That is what the government leads you to believe, while their putting everyone into big cities, and making smaller cities larger. Take a cross country trip, and behold the vast emptiness of this awesome country!!!! You can go miles and miles and see nothing!
I dont even like country but I love this song because of grizzly man R.I.P
R.I.P. Timothy Treadwell. We'll miss you and remember what you did that made you the "Grizzly Man".
Why in the fuck does the post-video preview screen have "It's Always A Good Time" by Owl Shitty and Carly Rae Shitsen on it? Disrespec' to Edwards, youtube, disrespec'.
Found this from Grizzly man years ago...just a great song!

Great song, any chance anyone has tabs? :P
Great song! Came over this after I've watched Grizzly Man!
great song!
Your friend is young and her voice is immature and slightly weak. She will get better. You cannot compare her to Don Edwards....no way.
ahahahah you are amazing.
All about the unchained spirit. Amazing.
oh yea and the bridge b, em, g, and a around there somewhere
If you guys want a tab for this song i play it with dsus4, a, g, and just pick, really simple. The intro is with the b and g strings on the seven 9 and 10th frets you should be able to figure it out... let me know if you need more help
It's a great song, whether I, as a big fat British guy "get" the lyrics or not, it's just sonically lovely, and the music really carries the mood that I think the lyrics are implying.
Lovely.
Pretty insightful for someone on YouTube. Well done (not being sarcastic, either).
i love this song.
I love this song!!!
Hank Williams Jr. can only dream of singing like this. Don is the cream.
nice song
This song is neither written nor performed by Richard Thompson- it's one of two such songs on the otherwise Thompson-penned soundtrack. This track was performed by Don Edwards.
