Thom, Sandi - World War One Lyrics

What did I do in the great world war
I learned to peel potatoes and scrub the floor
I watched the British sunset
Go down behind the skyline forevermore

I learned to ride as soldiers to the line
For days and nights in cattle trucks of swine
I learned to shave myself in tea
With the fragments of a mirror on my knee, ohh

So much for what I did
Not for what I've done
I never played a hero
But I faced a gun
This is World War I
Your fallen son
I'm a hundred years young

I learned to dodge the flying lumps of led
To keep the earth between the sniper and my head
Where life is one hard labour and a soldier gets his rest
When they lay him in the daisies with a puncture in his chest

So much for what I did
Not for what I've done
I never played a hero
But I faced a gun
This is World War I
Your fallen son
I'm a hundred years young

Ooh, sweet mother don't you cry
Ooh, this will be the day that I die

I gathered souvenirs for home that I hoped to send
I carried around for months just to dump them in the end
Where all is done in darkness, where all is still in day
Where living men are buried and the dead unburied lay

So much for what I did
Not for what I've done
I never played a hero
But I faced a gun
This is World war one
And its just begun
This is world war one
Your fallen son
This is world war one
I'm just a hundred years young

Another gr8 song I'm only listening on h'phones from laptop but it sounds amazing .. No need to reply .. But I wonder .. do you feel like you have hit a new phase / streak ? .. have you passed thru the fire & come out stronger ? .. or is it .. for you all the same & just that you are .. recording your songs in a better way .. perhaps Motherhood has changed you in a way I've often heard other parents say .. that having children puts everything into a new perspective .. Whatever the answer is I hope & pray for you that you can work with people with the vision to put out good quality visuals to go with these stunning trks .. It's silly I know because I have done nothing .. except have faith & belief .. in You as an Artist .. But I feel So Proud of you .. Just one silly old scot's muso out in the wilderness of The Forest of Dean .. The Forest is beautiful ... in places .. But like the Hobbit's of the old shire . They don't ' Old much for furriners or strangers ' many of ( not all of course ) them are racist bigoted & a bit inbred .. My wife & I cried when we heard that the One Albino Stag 's body had been found .. The Head taken to be sold .. My wife is a Londoner born & bred & can manage to get on with them altho she is a proud Vegan & animal rights defender .. But I feel like an old Bear who just hides out in the woods & avoids contact as much as I can .. But you have inspired me to try & use my recording equipment again .. I have in my heart & soul the passion you have but sadly .. not the Vocal instrument that you have .. The strength & power in your vocals is awesome .. I was still reeling from " The Feeling " & now this .. & the "Album " ? is called Ghosts ? .. We have a big snow storm heading our way as I write this 6.40 am monday morning .. last year we were cut off & the electric & so the internet went also .. & the Planet has been shaking in anger .. as for that ' trump ' I just don't know what little bubble he lives in but I wish something would burst it .. I had hope for a while with Obama but now .. Anyway I digress .. May I offer a suggestion .. in the way of Merch' ? I think the Image of PUNK ROCKER & Wild Flowers .. barbed wire & fairies Angels & the like .. T-shirts Hoodies .. Mugs .. . Big Love & good Karma to you & yours & your Boy .. bye for now .. Ben
