Thin Lizzy Sarah (Version 1) Comments
Sarah
Thin Lizzy
Album: Shades of a Blue Orphanage
Captain's hair
Shone softly in the sun
Rode on his best mare
To Sarah
Schoolboy eyes
Would stare in innocent fun
Never told no lies
He loved Sarah
Whispered by a bramble
Carried by a brook
To every fishers hook
"Sarah"
Fragrant fields
Playing croquet in the sun
Nothing appeals
Like Sarah
Whispered by a bramble
Carried by a brook
To every fishers hook
"Sarah"
Such an amazing album Thin Lizzy wasn't this about his Grandmother?
"This Song Make's Me Crumble' Every Time..
"Thank's for the upload!... RIP Phil...
6 people don't know a beautiful song if it hit them in their ears softly like this song. yeah it's not a Rocker like most of their others but it's about Phil's Grandma. R.I.P Philip Parris Lynott. Gary Moore too.
This version was written for Phil's grandmother by the way
I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this, but "never told no lies" is a reference to how Phil used to tell people how to pronounce Lynott (Lie Not, because I tell no lies). He's specifying that the school boy admiring Sarah is the Lynott that married his Grandma.
Y aun me hace llorar esta cancion...... La poca alegria de mi vida esta aqui, en este poema.
Mi Sarah, que haré sin ti. Amada mía, cuando podré volver a verte y sostener tus manos y no dejarte.
Much prefer this song to the other Sarah
Alan Lloyd each is fine in its own way. This one is about his grandma, the other his daughter.
Nice to hear John Kelly play this on Lyric FM to mark the 32nd anniversary of Phil's passing. Still hurts...
as beautiful a song ever penned -keep passing through time PHIL
One of Philip's most beautiful songs written for his gram!
Bought this album after seeing them at Ebbisham Hall Epsom in the early 70's. My first concert. Went to the gents after & found myself standing next to the lead guitarist. Embarrassingly I can't remember who it was, but I do remember that on stage he took his jeans off & his shirt became a floor length dress! Red with white spots I think. It was a great gig. Have always loved this song.
Sublime. Lynnot 4 ever
Some facts that will hopefully clear up the confusion in this comments thread:
This song was written by Philip Lynott for his grandmother, who was named Sarah.
(It was not written by Gary Moore.) It first appeared on Thin Lizzy's second album which was called 'Shades of a Blue Orphanage'.
There is another version of this same song with less piano and prominent electric guitar.
You can listen to that version here: https://youtu.be/D0ZwOPD1x8k
According to members of the band who posted in the comments thread on that page, Gary Moore played the electric guitar on that version.
There is a completely different song, also called Sarah, that was written by Philip Lynott and Gary Moore. That song was written for Philip's new born daughter at the time, who was named Sarah after her great grandmother. That song first appeared on Thin Lizzy's 'Black Rose' album which came out in 1979, seven years after 'Shades of a Blue Orphanage'. The song has the same title, but it is a completely different song.
this one is good but not as good as the one on black rose thats gonna be the reason why im gonna name my kid sarah
great song this one is about phil's grandma so beautiful love this one. phil was magic in his song and his words.
grandma???????
@Glen Lucas yes their are 2 versions of this song, this one is different from the sarah song about his daughter years later. and this is off the second album his daughter was not born then.
Yep ,gotcha m8 ,thanks for posting this
@Glen Lucas welcome mate
C'est vraiment sublime. Cette magnifique chanson de Phil, Eric qui joue les notes magiques comme l'aurait fait George Harrison, c'est une bouffée d'air intemporelle et une chanson intime qui a beaucoup de sens. Merci les gars.
Amazing!Great song.Incredible music.
Ive heard that this song was written by Gary Moore for his grandma
This one was written bey Phil for his grandma. The other "version" - actually a different song - was written by Phil for his daughter (who undoubtedly was named after his grandma).
Sarah on Black Rose, the music was written by Moore, and Phil, obviously write the lyric.
Not so much "Versions" as they are two completely different songs about two different subjects. His daughter was born 1978, after which he wrote the other song with the same title :)
I agree. Version is the wrong word for it, but the mistake gets propagated all over the place, because people assume two songs with the same name are generations of the same song.
think this version was for his grandmother
Sarah is a nice name,my kid has it...nice song/post..thankyou.
