Thin Lizzy Look What The Wind Blew In Comments
And with this,
the dawning of a new asskicking
Bluesrock band entering into the fold.
Can't exactly tell why, but this song and their version of Whiskey In The Jar come into my mind when autumn comes. Maybe because I discovered these songs and this band in this season. Still, when September comes, the air starts becoming a bit colder and the sky starts becoming more cloudy, I want to listen to this song.
Mining YouTube for rock and roll yields another gem, what a totally cool, great song !
From "Songs for while I'm away":
LOOK WHAT THE WIND BLEW IN
In the dismal darkness
I have sat and gazed
amazed at the blazing factories
like the lonely man
who stands on the seashore sand
I am afraid
as weary as I am
I try
I seem I see that
things look O.K.
Many lovely ladies
I have felt, touched
I was not afraid
I took them out dancing
midnight moonlight romancing
I was not afraid
then somewhere from the north
this gale I knew blew in
and I am afraid
Run boy run in your skin
look what the wind just blew in
I might be 'going-out-on-a-limb' here, but I think my favourite Lizzy tracks are from their 'trio era', before Philo decided on the twin-guitar thing. Eric Bell was/is a truly magnificent player and the 3-piece format gave a wild edge to his soloing and their ensemble playing as a whole especially 'live' (check out the BBC Radio session recording of this track - manic, breath-taking, real seat-of-the-pants stuff !). In my view 3-piece bands tend to be wilder than larger bands, especially when - or maybe BECAUSE - the musicianship is of much better than average calibre (think Cream, JHE, West, Bruce & Laing, The Police, Taste, Motorhead, Firehose, Burning Tree etc). And perhaps that's why I have a bit of a 'thing' about that format - the ultimate challenge for any rocker worth his salt is to be in a wild 3-piece band. You can't run, you can't hide, there's no-one else to stand behind or take the heat off you, YOU'VE ALL GOT TO PLAY. Don't get me wrong : the later Lizzy 4-piece stuff is great too ... but it was noticeably more polished and streamlined and missing some of the quirks and kinks that made 3-piece Lizzy so interesting to listen to. The only Lizzy album I own is 'Vagabonds Of The Western World' (their last with Eric) : my all-time favourite Lizzy track is 'The Rocker' (off the same album) - 'nuff said.
I agree
Back in the day never to be repeated to REALLY know this band you have to take in the first 3 albums nuff said
This whole song is FIRE. The guitar playing is amazing
Very much like the early Skid Row... fucking amazing!
This is one of my favourite Lizzy songs, right from the begining, such POWER in there!!!!Great lyrics and guitar.
what a track i would say the hidden gem on the thin lizzy debut album. love the drums and base on this from phil and brian, and the guitar solo from eric makes it the nuts. what a grove too, proves lizzy are one of the best rock bands ever. and no one can deny that.
Thin lizzy
Saw the Band in 1973 at the CYMS Fairview Dublin. It cost 3/6 (35 cents)
They were all pissed!
Great to hear this again
Hahaha! That killed me. I envy you man!
oooooh maaaan
have always loved the lizzy
definitely missed out on never seeing them live
dutch, geweldig! en bedankt dat je de moeite genomen hebt het te plaatsen, thanks!!
Excellent track. Some pretty unconventional but tremendously exciting bass and drums going on during the guitar solo. Watched them do this live several times. I still have the goosebumps!
