Thin Lizzy Buffalo Gal Comments
  1. z.... ....

    LOVE IT !!!!

  2. G.... P....

I’m back and a few moony nights older and let me tell you, this is still of the most beautiful songs ever written by a human being. And yes I’m insinuating that animals make music. Thin Lizzy are beautiful and dynamic, but simple in their grace. They are cheerful and they are sad, they make you cry, and they make you laugh. saying things like: “stranger, you know a friend called the friendly ranger?” No but tell me more!!!!! Music that has power to trespass the inner workings of a soul. Forever in my top 5 songs in the soundtrack of life.

  3. A.... L....

A beautiful song... Eric Bell's licks at the end are SUBLIME

  4. g.... ....

the rythm of this song is quite similar to some indigenous melodies, much like "old moon madness" it reminded me of this band: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLgPrk-XG2w

  5. G.... P....

    To my buffalo gal.

  6. G.... P....

I want this song played at my funeral.

  7. S.... P....

Not one of their best songs, but a fine and unique band

    S.... P....

Listen a few more times... This is one of their best... It grows on u

  8. h.... ....

    I love Thinn Lizzy...of course

  9. h.... ....

    Whatta fuck..

  10. t.... ....

Great song! The musicians that come up with such tricky rhythms as unpretentious as a child´s play are true masters.

  11. Z.... A....

The fact that I've never had a clue what this song is about has somehow made me love it all the more. Sometimes it's just the phrasing & sound of the words alone that can make one love the lyrics.

    Z.... A....

well, the liric is tricky, I suspect is made so to prevent people consider it cheesy or something I dont know, how poeple would call it, but if you pay attention to 2 things in the song, "slaugher" at the beggining, and "full of grass" in the end, is talking about a litteral buffalo gal, and nothing else

  12. D.... O....

This is an old fave Lizzy classic for me since early days. I picked up a few missing lyric-lines from your post cheers. But one I would add is this:

    'Stranger
You knew a friend called the Friendly Ranger
    Oh, ya shared the danger'

    Thanks, fellow fan

    D.... O....

Finally someone knows! This always nagged me , I couldn't make it out his accent ya know. Thankyou so much amended!!!

    D.... O....

Yeah it can be hard working out some of the lyrics (and I'm from Dublin myself). I remember when I was a kid (I was about 11 or 12), spending ages trying to work out some of what he was singing in parts. Working from Vinyl and lifting the needle to replay lines, it was 'dangerous' because of the scratching potential.

I think I was the youngest Lizzy fan in Ireland at the time, as they were totally unknown back then. I got into them through my older brother getting a loan of their first album. After that I grabbed eveything I could as it was being released. I actually ended up becoming an Electric Guitarist because of Phil and the boys.

I even wrote a song about my Lizzy experience ;). Have a listen if you like, let me know what you reckon: Its at:

Its called 'Black Eagle' (after an early Philo band).

Back to Buffalo Gal .. that 'your button's undone' line always evaded me, so good on ya for that.

Also, I think that that line is 'and the time's right for slaughter'

I found this live version of Buffalo Gal you might like to listen to. Its pretty good, and rare enough from that 3 piece era.

I've always found something magical about that song (as all the early Lizzy stuff in particular).

Cheers sbyrne1, enjoyed 'chattin' today' ;).

    D.... O....

Sorry sbyrne1 I meant to put ''and the time's ripe for slaughter'' for that line. It does sound like 'every town's ripe with slaughter' as you had, I can hear where you're coming from with that. But with headphones and a few closer listens I can make it out clearer now, and it makes beautiful lyrical sense. I absolutely loved Philo's poetic lyrics, especially in those early days, genius stuff.

90 % der Menschheit ist so oberflächlich. Keine eigene Meinung. Alles Mitläufer. Gute Musik kommt bei denen aus dem Radio. Und da kommt nur Kommerz. !!!!!

  14. D.... P....

    Steffan Pila

My favorite from the "Shades Of A Blue Orphanage" album. It has a Country- Smooth Rock Feel enhancing the Wild West Atmosphere about a Buffalo Gal from the old Buffalo Bill Saloon. Cheers to Thin Lizzy!!!

  15. G.... P....

This is by far my favorite Thin Lizzy song. It is written so poetically. Phil Lynott displays a wide range of vocal changes and the smooth guitar in the background meshes perfectly with the amazing jazz rock spectacle. I love Thin Lizzy forever, long live Ireland!!!!!

    G.... P....

In my top ten I think.... My favorite is VAGABOND . I understand why love this song though. The intro is so endearing and innocent sounding and the song is magic...

  16. C.... ....

Wer kennt schon so gute Musik? Die meisten lassen sich doch von den Medien beeinflussen. Heu zu Tage gibts eh nur wenige Rockgruppen. Cowboy Song ist auch genial

  17. C.... ....

Klasse Musik. Warum so wenige Klicks?

    C.... ....

    Den Song kennt kaum einer

  18. A.... L....

Pure magic. Me fave from this album

  19. T.... I....
