They Might Be Giants - Turn Around Lyrics
I was working all night in my office
When a man I had recently killed
Called me up from a phone near my building
So I looked out the window at him
He had the same obsequious manner
So to calm my nerves I sang this song
To him, over the phone
Turn around, turn around
There's a thing there that can be found
Turn around, turn around
It's a human skull on the ground
Human skull on the ground
Turn around
I was doing an interpretive dance
When I felt something heavy and pointed
Strike me in the back of the neck
And then the ghost of my dance instructor
Pushed me down into an open grave
And as dirt rained down she played a xylophone
And sang me this song
Turn around, turn around
There's a thing there that can be found
Turn around, turn around
It's a human skull on the ground
Human skull on the ground
Turn around
We were waving our arms out the window
Of a fast moving passenger train
Acting in an irresponsible fashion
Until the engineer whose back had been turned
And who we thought would find us highly amusing
Quickly swiveled his head around
And his face which was a paper-white mask of evil
Sang us this song
Turn around, (round) turn around (round)
There's a thing there that can be found (there's a thing there that can be)
Turn around, (found) turn around (round)
It's a human skull on the ground (it's a human skull on the)
Human skull (ground) on the ground (round)
Turn around (turn around, turn around)
Turn around, (round) turn around (round)
There's a thing there that can be found (there's a thing there that can be)
Turn around, (found) turn around (round)
It's a human skull on the ground (it's a human skull on the)
Human skull (ground) on the ground (round)
Turn around (turn around, turn around)

A Paper-white Mask of Evil.
Those words still terrify me to this day.
Lol my dad played this album a bunch to me and my brother when we were little.........I'm starting to understand why I'm such a wierdo now 🤣
I'm rocking this with my three-year-old right now. He probably got a Dad of the Year award or something...
bruh I remember when my stepmother would taunt me with this all day and I would scream so loud and cry and I was like 7 but now it's just ahahahahahh
sounds lovely
"and his face, which was a paper-white mask of evil, sang us this song"

It's the back cover of the John Henry album 😉
I own John Henry. I didn’t see it. Is that why the Winky face is there?
I love this song. So top 40
My friend, who shall not be named, showed me this band and I listened to them over and over again, and its just the most strange and catchy combination to the music that keeps me coming back. Idk what it is, its so good.
A couple of months ago i heard my first tmbg song and i hated it but then 2 days later i got the song stuck in my head and i have bean listening to tmbg since
They are so good
Gonna animate this :)
My friend at school always sings this at school and I was like
“WTF are you singing” and he said
“Look it up” and here I am!
This is the song that taught me what obsequious means...
Nice piece of business here..#obsequious
"turn around, turn around, theres a ting that can be found,
turn around, turn around, its a tornado on the ground"
No other band would ever use the word "obsequious". One of the many reason I love TMBG.
Buckflow absolutely!
Not to contradict a fellow TMBG fan, but I can totally see The Decemberists using "obsequious" in a song.
Buckflow ween would.
I'd say this was one of my favorites, but when it comes to TMBG, it's hard to pick favorites! This music has such an ability to lighten me up and put a big cheesy grin on my face. I love these guys... :)
this song is so cheery and funny and catchy but just unnerving enough to where I don't feel comfortable listening to this song when I'm alone at night
I sleep on my side, facing the wall, and listen to the whole album while trying to sleep, which seems counter-intuitive for such a lively album, but it generally works.
Needless to say, I can agree.
Ria I see what you mean cuz I'm in the same scenario
Their best song... IMO. It's dreamy, intelligent and a bit nightmarish.
Bittcckhe

@Finnja S I always thought it was "When I felt something happy and pointed" which I think works better as it makes less sense.
in have diarrea comin out of my dick
someone please help me!! :o
one of those times you press 'like' without feeling like an utter tool.
I remember listening to this song as a teenager and having to look in a dictionary for what "obsequious" meant.
I tried to incorporate it into conversations. I even used it on a date and the person asked if I listened to TMBG. That was awesome.
Lee Lemon so awesome :)
Hey, me too! I would dance to it in the living room with my dad. It's the most prominent memory of this album from when I was little.
I love the way that this song flows perfectly off the end of the previous song, with the same tempo as, and starting on the pickup to what would be the next measure of, If I Wasn't Shy. It makes it so easy to sing along.
I'm going to start calling it that now. "Alternative" had negative connotations.
You know the songs going to be brilliant when it begins with "I was working all night in the office, when a man I had recently killed..."
It took me a while to realize why this band is my second favorite, just behind The Beatles. They continue to recreate "Maxwell's Silver Hamer." By that I mean they write tha catchiest, bounciest tunes with tha darkest lyrics. They Might Be Geniuses!
lenskap same! But I like TMBG more than the Beatles
@ZoLexa They are The Shitty Beatles
The world can keep it's auto tuned strippers and computer hack producers I'm comfy right here!
when i felt something heavy and pointed, strike me on the back of my neck! and then the ghost of my dance instructor pushed my down into an open grave.
I would say that's an adequate description, they remind me of a modern Buddy Holly and the crickets. I wonder if they inspired Weezer at all?
A great example of the genre my brother calls "Nerd Rock". I love it!
I was out by myself in the graveyard. I was doing an interpretive dance.
One of my favorite songs, and I don't usually like rock music, so that's saying a lot.
This used to be my favorite song when I was younger. Turn around, turn around, it's a human skull on the ground!
