They Might Be Giants - Tippecanoe And Tyler Too Lyrics
Oh who has heard the great commotion, motion motion
All the country through?
It is the ball a-rolling on
For Tippecanoe and Tyler too
And with him we'll beat Little Van, Van
And with him we'll beat Little Van
Sure, let 'em talk about hard cider (cider cider)
And log cabins too
't'will only help to speed the ball
For Tippecanoe and Tyler too
And with him we'll beat Little Van, Van
Van is a used up man
And with him we'll beat Little Van
Onward it will go
And of course we'll bring you through
For Tippecanoe and Tyler too
And with him we'll beat Little Van, Van
Van is a used up man
And with him we'll beat Little Van

They Might Be Giants Tippecanoe And Tyler Too Comments
Politics was so much more cool in the 1830's. Canidates were more savage
Image hearing this song prior to 1840 election, voting for Harrison and then 1 month in having to pay great attention to "and Tyler too"
William henry harrison our 9th president
This needs a longer version
Van in 2020!!
Van is a used up man
@Emily Sink lol so I hear!
Parks and rec anyone?
I can thank APUSH for showing me this
this song:
uuuuuuuuh... you're old
and small
and a drunkard
A restaurant near me named one of thier sandwiches tippecanoe and Tyler too, so obviously I had to Google it. And that's how I made it here.
Wtf haha ..
This song rhymes “cabins too” with “Tyler too”. Not a criticism. Just an observation.
Tippecanoe refers to Wm Henry Harrison, the greatest president that this country has ever known.
Van refers to Martin Van Buren, the guy with those outlandish mutton chops.
His was the only PERFECT administration not only up to that time but even today.
Joel Wilson How is William Henry Harrison the best president if he only served for a month because he died from Cholera?
Almira Pehratovic He’s the greatest president we ever had because he died before he could mess anything up
This song has about a thousand verses, I wouldn't mind if the Giants had gone through a few more. Not for the lyrics, mind, just the arrangement.
You need to do a version with all 17 verses or how ever many it is.
Saw this live at Ram's Head in Baltimore
The structure of the verses in the song and the way the words move and repeat is very much like TMBG's original lyrics, which I find interesting
How ironic that the president with the most extravagant campaign would be dead a month into office
And pepole would have to pay lot and I mean lot of attention to the tyler too part. :D
Fantastic! Where are the explosions? Explosians?
Indiana Jones sent me here.
I have known about this song since TMBG released it for the Future Soundtrack for America Album. I love it so much. Thank you for putting it on YouTube so I could share it!
Shit ass
The most savage political song ever
How is it that one of our worst presidents had the best campaign song?
Are you referring to William Henry Harrison (The song was written for him) or John Tyler? WHH was only in office for about 40 days, hard to judge his presidency based on that.
+Weston Sharpensteen He sucks pretty hard for dying so quickly. What a lightweight.
William Henry Harrison was the greatest president, as he died before he could ruin anything
I'm Jacob Aufdenberg from Jackson, Missouri, and I love raping boys.
Song about the two greatest presidents in American history.
this is so catchy :)
Didn't know it before, why isn't it on any album at all??
It’s on Venue Songs

This could be the political jingle of Mike Pence in 2024, though the "Tyler" will be replaced by whatever Mike picks as his running mate since Tyler was WHH's.
revin hatol what are you talking about?
This is the most positive youtube comment section I've ever seen. Also thank god for the Presidential podcast bringing this and James K. Polk back into the fold
Nobody knows of these presidents, which is why I am watching this.
Everybody knows them for being forgettable, which no longer makes them forgettable.
TheCreeperTrack mainly because 1 died 3 weeks into office and the other didn’t do anything.
wouldnt have known about this song without the presidential podcast
Me too! I highly recommend that podcast.
Great podcast. I found it a month ago and I am about halfway done with it. So awesome that the Washington Post did that.
Did you also listen to Constitutional! It's great too.
Best song of the 19th century
Oh Susannah is better.
studying to this
This is great! I love it, I'm a huge history buff and this is just fantastic (damn song is catchy too and sticks with you awhile after u hear it).
History teachers everywhere thank you for this, Istanbul, and the Mesopotamians.
What kind of shitty history teacher thinks TMBG wrote "Istanbul"? o_0
a teacher that likes TMBG's version better no one said they wrote it chill.
Don't forget James K. Polk.
I must say, TMBG's version has a better back beat.
♥ you guys, keep doing what you do! Brilliant!
I've read about this song since I was little; curiosity finally got the best of me and here I am. Thank you TMBG for recording this historically significant song.
Just heard this for the first time only 30 minutes ago and already listened to it 47 times. The math may not add up, but then again can math explain such an amazing song?
O WHO HAS HEARD THE GREAT COMMOTION
I don't think that they're mannequins. Mannequins don't have different noses and head shapes. What about them is creepy to you?
I'll be seeing those mannequin heads in my sleep tonight. If I sleep.
I can only imagine what the Youtube comments on this song might have been if Youtube had existed when William Henry Harrison was running for President.
Should Hannah Van Buren find it necessary to schuck corn and whenever so which she finds it to her liking I shall provide upon her request at the present hour or anytime thereafter.
Image having to pay attention to the Tyler too part considering that William Henry Harrison died 1 month in.
and log cabins too!
This is cool. How many covers do you hear of 170+ years-old songs?
just the other day my history teacher played this in my class. :D
Finally I hear this song ever since I heard it on the podcast.
They should have more desolate, surreal election jingles. Cowtow to the "weird people" demographic.
And Log Cabins, too!
Tippecanoe/Tyler 2012
I'm glad my name isn't Tippecanoe.
SomeGuyTHPS ya lucky for you haha
Aww yeah
