How can you reality check an opinion? The fact is that he thinks it's the best ever, which is the only type of "the best" that means anything.

I say best comics ever just because i really like it and to explain to the guy who don't know what Sandman is that it's really cool ! Of course i don't know if it's the best comic ever because i haven't read allthe comics and it's maybe not the best comic i ever read, i don't like sorting things. :p

well, if someone has the capacity to help you travel through time, then time itself becomes an absence of an issue. I'd say be patient, but it sorta relies on time being an issue. Forever is a long time.

John Linnell doesn't have a daughter, just one son who was not yet born when this song was recorded and released. The origin story of this song from the liner notes of Then: The Earlier Years does include a reference to a child's drawing, though, so pretty close!

I must have read a now-debunked anecdote about the origin of the song. I apologize for passing an internet rumor! :-)

John Linnell's daughter drew a picture at school with that title; he didn't know it was based on a book.

In fact, the band didn't even know about the book when they wrote the song.

I don't know how I stumbled on this, I love the children's picture book that shares the title with this song, but I don't think there's much else in common. I wonder if the songwriter saw the book & just liked the title without reading it. Of course, I love a lot of TMBG songs & recordings (but I'd missed this one before), but I don't think this is one of their most successful.

@2000istheyear I literally just read about it a second ago in "A Game of You" (Christmas present from my brother) and came to check it out!

Sad to admit that I never knew about this song till I saw it mentioned in Sandman. Damn good tune.
